OT: Oscars......

That was an epic fail. That's what makes live tv so great. It's a shame it took 4 f'n hours to get to that moment...

Now I'm wondering if anyone mentioned in the in memoriam is really still alive...

Honestly. I feel bad for Beatty honestly. He was given the wrong card. Pop Culture moment. The tweets right now are hilarious.

Here is the Video for everyone who was sleeping... unreal.
Not entirely the whole story. Clear now Beatty walked out with the wrong envelope and it was apparent something was wrong when he looked at the card and handed it to Dunaway. Commotion and stage hands grabbing envelopes but backstage they knew that somehow they hadn't given them the Best Picture envelope. I kind of feel bad for Beatty and Dunaway honestly. I probably would have done the same thing in their position.

I never understood how people can watch award shows for hours. Growing up, a good friend of mine, his family would all dress up and have fancy meals as if they were at these shows. What a bunch of nuts they were.

They should've been committed on principle lol.

Sounded from the summaries more like it was the DNC...oh well, in November it was proven how valued celebrity opinions are in middle America. High school drop outs and addicts wearing $100000 outfits, fleets of servants, multiple mansions, shuttled about in pollution belching limos and jets, hidden accounts in the cayman islands ... lecturing the ignorant little people. #resist! LOL

LOL...I did the same thing.
Pretty sure I turned on Ice Road Gator Moonshine Fat Camp Truckers or some such thing on the History channel (this is what qualifies as History nowadays). Much more interesting and compelling television than that crew...Where is Cartman to clear out the smug when you need him?

LMAO--I'm with you, and I know people who do exactly the same thing. My brother is in "the industry" out there and he and his friends have always treated the Oscars like it's the Super Bowl, college football and basketball NCs, and Christmas morning all rolled into one.

I am a movie aficionado myself but I just don't get that--at all.

Any time Viola Davis speaks at one of these award shows it sounds like she's trying to win another award by being so dramatic. It's so nauseating. I can't believe some people actually fall for it.

they've over saturated these award shows. Oscars would be cool if there wasn't 3 or 4 awards shows just a few weeks prior. how many times does Hollywood need to pat themselves on the back before it gets old?

I do enjoy the part where they honor anyone in the industry that has passed away within the year. Does anyone know if they had Bill Paxton in on this?

I don't reckon there is an end nor does it ever get old to such personalities.

So FAKE Awards and FAKE News does exist? Hmmmmmm........

That is hilarious. Couldn't have happened to a more self important group of people.
They certainly set themselves up for the conspiracy nuts with how that apparently went down. First announce the award went to the movie featuring two of the whitest people ever for a movie that echoed Hollywood's musical, aka "white" period ... cue the riots and protests! Fortunately alarmed producers intervened, raced onto the stage and literally ripped the trophies away and tossed the award to the gay minority movie. Whew! Lol...

Yeah......well....I am sure that never, ever crossed the voters minds when they were voting for these awards.

Well of course they do, which actually is why there should be no question what happened was a mistake! That winning movie was preordained for the Oscar the moment the idea was conceived, given the political environment. The only surprise was that those readers would have needed a card to say the winner in the first place. No wonder the guy (Beatty?) looked so incredulous at what he read. It's like having to question if the city of Pgh would ever actually turn down a Rooney for anything.

I like most of his Pictures, they had a Documentary Series on the History of Hollywood on PBS with Warren Beatty telling his experience with Jack Warner.

When Jack Warner was talking to Warren as a Young Actor fighting over what Movies are Best for him versus what Warren wanted to make, Jack Warner took him over to Warner Brothers Water Tower with Two Big Initials "WB" on it, look young man see those Initials........that is who runs Warner Brothers and Warren looked up and said, that is right those are my Initials Warren Beatty! Jack didn't laugh for a minute then hug him.

Warner Brothers Polish Jews migrated to Canada and then to Youngstown and open one the first Movie Houses in 1903 known as the "Cascade" in New Castle and incorporated in Pittsburgh named Duquesne Amusement & Supply Company, later moved to LA after WWII. One unwritten rule in many WB Movies were to mention Pittsburgh as way to remind where they started.

David Selznick was born in Pittsburgh too, one reason why Pittsburgh played a role it was right with New York as the place to get Capital Start Up Money to set up New Businesses in the 1900-30 such as Radio, Media, and Movie Companies.

I never watch any awards shows, EVER! Never had any interest. I watched "The Walking Dead".
every once in awhile, there is a truly memorable acceptance speech that makes it worth while. I recall Cuba Gooding Jr's speech from Jerry McGuire being incredible. 99% are boring as all hell but once in awhile, you get a good one..

I have to agree. Honestly I didn't even understand what she was trying to say. And they let it go on and on and on as if it was some profound moment. JUST SAY THANK YOU.

Anything beyond "I'd like to thank my parents, fans, etc" becomes Charlie Brown's Teacher noise to me or I just reach for the remote and return once they're off their respectively clueless soapboxes. That Viola speech was borderline psychotic and they probably should have switched to a commercial it was that ludicrous.

BTW - lots of grumpy people in this thread. Not ashamed to say I make a big dinner every year and friends head over to watch. We drink vats of wine and have a good time. Call me shallow, but I love film.
Maybe you can host my wife and sister next year. Have room for two more? LOL :)

I could care less. I think it was absolutely perfect that the Oscars and the Daytona 500 fell on the same this year. Two events I didn't want a second of. Boom, those two have now passed.... I don't watch the Grammy's, the ESPY's, etc.... I think the last Awards type shows I watched was the MTV Music Awards when it was still MTV and they focused on music.

I watched Homeland/Billions on Showtime last night, then did channel surfing til bed. But to each their own.

I usually pay some attention to the Grammy awards because they often have cool performances. Having the Time and Bruno Mars tribute to Prince this year for example. It's getting tougher though as I age because as much as I try, I find it harder to appreciate the newer music and artists.

Otherwise I avoid those kinds of shows, even before they became political events.

Somewhere John Travolta is feeling vindicated I bet.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but ummmm, I'm not buying this was a mistake. The most important award of the evening shouldn't have that happen to. No way, no how. Not that I watched even a second of it....was hoping Morgan would meet Lucille on The Walking Dead. :D

I think it was a mistake. PWC is going to lose their gig over it.

One other weird thing from last night. Did anyone else catch how upset Denzel was when he didn't win? I'm not sure I've ever seen such a visceral reaction like that at the Oscars from someone who didn't win. What's even weirder is that Affleck was the favorite up until 2 weeks ago when Denzel won the SAG award. This was NOT a surprise like other races have been in the past.

I kinda felt bad for Warren when the mistake was announced and he was trying to show the audience the real award card and the Director or Producer (not sure who that bald guy was) just snatched the card out of his hand and held it up. That was pretty rude. Would have been awesome if Warren clocked him.
