OT: PAA contents set for sheriff's sale

The art in the University Club was auctioned off separately before Pitt got the building. There were supposedly some valuable pieces in it.

Pitt has done an outstanding job restoring the historic buildings it has acquired and repurposed and it has been recognized repeatedly in architectural and preservation circles for it.

They did a really good job on the Masonic Temple and Concordia Club too, and even Bellefield, and this really started back in the 80s when they restored the Union including the the decision not to take out the Louis XV style ballrooms and lobby. Can you imagine...there was actually a plan at one time to take the Union, gut it, and wrap it in a brutalist facade to match Posvar-Lawrence-Barco.

But, it looks like the PAA may eek out its existence long enough to get some revenue from the hotel coming in.

I kinda like Posvar... the modern interior much moreso than the Brutalist exterior, but one is enough lol.
A lot of great architecture arose during the midcentury, but too often at the expense of history.
Progress at that time seemed to mean 'tear down as much shit as possible, regardless of artistic/historic significance."
Glad the Union was spared.

I wonder just how in-debt the PAA is... and how much of that debt this hotel lease will cover.

If the PAA somehow gets another chance, they better thinking about adapting to modern times.

In addition to attending a wedding there, we had my parents anniversary party at the University Club 2 summers ago. They do a fantastic job - the building is quite nice now. Plus the roof deck has an outstanding view of the Cathedral. Anyone planning an event - I highly recommend it.
