OT: Pitt being sued

Pitt didn't fully disclose the reasons for the termination. That's what I've been hearing. Then it's on the Pittsburgh Police dept. for hiring an incompetent cop, if they knew why he was terminated at Pitt.

HR departments won’t even pass along good reviews. They got rid of him.

Unfortunately, cops aren’t licensed like, say nurses, so there’s no structure or board that really has authority to weed out a clown like this guy. The bad ones just bounce around until their reputation starts to precede them or they do something really stupid.

Or deadly .

Seems frivolous.
Unless the article is reporting the facts inaccurately, there is no legal cause of action in any state in the country for what the plaintiff is claiming against Pitt here. The case will get dismissed, and Pitt won’t pay the plaintiff a penny, not even cost of defense.

Its the nature of the beast today. Lawyers look for entities with big pockets who are far more inclined to settle than fight in court. This has NOTHING to do with the merits of the case.
This is a totally uninformed and inaccurate statement. In most cases the opposite is true-the insurance carrier or self-insured defendants would rather pay their attorneys $100,000 to stomp out a B.S. claim than pay the B.S. claimant a fraction of that.

Now if you’re talking about a true “nuisance value” settlement of 2 or 3 thousand bucks to get rid of a meritless claim, that happens-but not nearly as often some seem to think.

Yeah . Maybe it's just at the point of a greedy lawyer telling the family in a way
''Let's just go on a suing spree and see what sticks"

Im no lawyer , but either way , is Pitt liable to pay the court costs in total to defend themselves plus the plaintiff ?
If that is the case . What do the people suing (other than the case) have to lose ?

Nailed it. Again it has nothing to do with the merits of the case The plaintiffs lawyers look for the firm(s) with the deepest pockets and go after them If there were another company peripherally involved in this case they Would be sued as well. I’m also sure this family had a number of lawyers competing To handle their case
Buffett nailed it, that whole post is accurate and informed-but you still don’t get it. Insurance carriers and self-insureds don’t pay on meritless claims. The evaluate every claim for their potential exposure. Where they have no exposure, as in this case, they won’t pay a penny. They will pay their lawyers to file a motion to dismiss the case for lack of legal basis immediately, in my state or would be filed in lieu of an answer to the plaintiff’s complaint, and I’d be very surprised if PA law doesn’t permit the same.

This one will get tossed early for lack of legal basis. . Pitt won’t pay the family or their attorneys a dime. It’s all about risk evaluation, and there is no risk to Pitt here.

No-not under any state’s legal scheme. There are some loser-pays states where after the case goes to trial and survives appeal the loser has to pay some portion of the winner’s litigation costs and attorney fees.

What if Pitt leadership feels there's risk of looking insensitive or even hostile in this politically charged case? Not that I believe that in the least, but they might. Remember, the local media will be happy to crucify the school for even the slightest appearance of playing the heavy. Gallagher with all his 'diversity tweets' and the like in particular may not want to be called out for hypocrisy.

Pitt has nothing to do with this case
Don’t prove what a jackass you are

there’s a much greater downside risk to Pitt of sending a message to the world that you’re an easy mark for potential litigants. That’s why in most cases the insurers and self-insiders would rather pay their lawyers significant money to squash the claim and discourage any future BS claims.

Most of you jobbers are to scared to ever drive through East Pgh. In fact the town is VERY small ,very poor. Yeah they effed up hiring this thug but you pasty elitists have no idea how poor that community is. Its tax base in Westinghouse disappeared in 1985. The rest is history

What is a patsy elitist ?
The rest of the history is who moved in... or should I say out.

Souf would last about 2.5 minutes in East Pgh before they stole his sneakers
I live 5 minutes from there and wouldn't have a problem walking through east Pittsburgh .
If you're not involved in something shady ,chances are you are good .

In section 8 and hud..
In to Westinghouse.. affirmative action..

That place wasn't to be confused with paradise when Westinghouse was going full bore and Section 8 had yet to be enacted. Your swipe at affirmative action has nothing to do with anything there. Since there are no jobs there, what is the affirmative action issue?

Yeah . But it was safe . Meaning drug deals gone wrong and people killing each other over it .You beat the sjit out of each other and moved on

Was it? I remember going through there in the late '70s . . . at my peril.
It appeared that way . Maybe . Yeah it wasn't where we chose to hang but when having to go there and pick a bud up . Not that scary . Scary . But not that bad .

their Obama phone was shut off and now they need to actually pay their own way. Of course take what you can get

This is a stupid take
High school kid was actively involved in a felony. The parents failed. Now they are trying to profit on that, play the victims of course, use the race card instead of looking in the mirror and realizing their child is dead because they failed as parents.

I’ll hang up and listen.

Sometimes being away from my children for 5 months or more.
My children ....
One is a Pitt and Katts school of business graduate .
The other is lost and a freakin junky .
Please explain parenthood to me my friend .

Pick up and listen to this. If you're so convinced that the objective of the parents was to sacrifice their child in hopes of a big payout, then maybe they didn't "fail". We'll see if they "succeed" We do see what type of person you are to ascribe to them such motives.

I dont think he meant that .
The thought alone is truly absurd Temple .

I don’t think these failures were smart enough to plan beforehand this nor did I ever say this. It happened and now they are trying to profit on it.

Sorry boys, if your kid is driving around doing drive-by shootings, you aren’t winning any parent of the year awards.

Give a S about what? A kid who was involved in a drive by shooting? Damn right I don’t give a S.
I’m a parent, if my kid is involved in drive by shootings, I’ll have no problem admitting I’m a failure as a dad. No problem at all.

I’m not following you sheep with your Facebook avatar memorials and thoughts and prayers nonsense. I call it how it is. Callous maybe but the truth often is.
