OT: The Indians

"Major League" made me an Indians fan.

"Hey bartender...Jobu needs a refill!"

Usually the teams with the wins streaks don't win it. Pretty sure that happened to the Pens too. Definitely the Pats. Golden State a few years ago as well I think. But, still, incredible run and accomplishment. All's things not Browns in Cleveland are winning big. Impressive.

What's the record for consecutive wins?

1916 NY Giants won 26 in a row.

Ironically in a span when they were winning many pennants and World Series', that Giants team managed only a 4th place finish that year.

Why am I rooting for the Indians?

1) Same Market/Market Size as Pittsburgh.
2) Same demographics as Pittsburgh.
3) Traded away top prospects for Andrew Miller last year.
4) Finished next to last in the AL in attendance last year.
5) Got to Game 7 of the WS last year.
6) Ownership spent $60 million on Edwin Encarncion in the offseason. He has delivered what 34 HR's?

Why does all of this matter? All excuses by Nutting, the Pirates Management and those Pirates fans are blown up. They should have been blown up by the Royals success, but this is another example of having a good owner who is committed to winning can get it done in a market like this, regardless of attendance.

The streak the Giants put together in 1916 included a tie in I believe the 12th game.

The Giants streak is an unbeaten streak and not a winning streak .

This is correct, was back in the days when games were often called due to darkness.

Meh, they actually replayed that game (it was stopped in the 8th tied at 2-2) in its entirety and won it and it is included in the 26 games. Initially I agreed it wasn't a true winning streak record, but that changed my tune. BTW, I am an Indians fan and have enjoyed the run immensely. I hope they win 27+ in a row and the Giants streak isn't a point of contention any longer.

I consider myself more of an Indians fan than a Pirates fan right now. Besides the fact that I live with a girl from Cleveland who subjects me to about 157 of the 162 games every year, I'd rather root for a small market team that actually tries to win than a tightwad, mismanaged conglomerate of buttholes. Rooting for the Pirates while Nutting is at the helms and running business as he does is essentially pulling for the enemy. Go Tribe!

being a Pittsburgh fan, I myself will root for a Pittsburgh team no matter how many butt holes or idiots may be in management positions because I root for the teams of the city and not the suits and that is what "Pittsburgh" fans do. Pittsburgh fans also do not give two schitts about who the hell non Pittsburgh fans root for much in the same vane as we do not care about how your fantasy team did last week....

They are a perfect example of why small market teams are desperate to build their team around homegrown starting pitchers.

They've got a really tidy payroll, too. Most of their team is cheap and controllable, and the guys who are expensive are all on short term deals. Really lets them spend their money on 1-2 holes instead of spreading it around among 5-6 guys. They've got a nice window at this point.

Sis Boom Bah. Rah, Rah, Rah.

I am rooting for them to lose. To go 0-162. You should too if you truly love them. We need to change the direction and ownership of this franchise or we will be doomed forever. If you don't understand this....you are an idiot.

I am an idiot for rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pretty much like I have done since about 1970.....got it. Solid rebuttal, Solid.

Two years out from a 98 win season and doomed forever.,....hahaha....and you call me an idiot. Wonder when you will bail on Pitt should management not meet your needs? Again, I myself will stick with them forever no matter how many bad decisions they may make at the top and not cheer them on to 0-11 to make myself feel groovy.. But hey, that is just me.

You definitely are a Pittsburgh fan, my friend; your spelling and grammar blew your cover even without the disclosure. You're also part of the reason the Pirates continue to operate as they do. Enjoy the bobbleheads, fireworks, pierogi races, and super awesome free shirts with massive advertisements printed on the back. You won't catch me supporting these clowns until things change considerably.

least I do not live in sin with whatever the hell crawled out of lake Erie like yourself. But hey whatever works for ya.....dude, you were never a Bucco fan, correct? Cleveland guy.

If you ask me, she's pretty cute. Then again, we have different tastes. You like losing baseball, and I do not.

nobody likes losing...people bailing because of losing is what I dislike. These perpetual Pirate whiners are the worst. But I would like to know at what point they would bail on the Pitt Panthers...

If you still support the Pirates, while they are owned by Nutting, you are really missing some brain cells! That's like handing Nordy more donations, a few years ago, so he could give his buddy Pedey a parachute, stupid!

so once again, at what point will you stop supporting (not necessarily financial but avidly rooting against them) the Panthers because of poor decision making? Simple question, what will it take? Still awaiting a response on this one from the guy that called me an idiot and wants the Pirates to go 0-162.

Withdrawing one's support from Pitt will harm the program. Withdrawing support from the Pirates is a hopeful method of bringing about change that will ultimately steer the franchise in a better direction (from a fan perspective). I'm sure even you can discern that much, for Pete's sake. Unless you're the profiteer himself, Mr. Bob Nutting.

It's a shame, as a kid in Pittsburgh , actual kid with a Pittsburgh zip code 15205, not fakes, the dream of the boys in our neighborhood was to be a Pirate, was my favorite team in the city, after Pitt of course. It's got for me to not even care anymore, from crazy passion some years ago. I would rather hate them , but that passion is not there. Sad.

I never said I wanted Pirates to go 0-162, I don't get why you mentioned that , but if they did, it would just make me shake my head and feel bad for the younger kids around.

Pitt, I give but not as much I did 5 years ago. I am taking a wait and see approach, letting them show their will to build a winner, 30 years is enough of the fans , yes us 30 000 being screwed over with piss poor decisions.

They were also in the middle of a 31 game home stint.
