When I saw her last year in the game where she received her first cap, she was calmer than any player I’ve ever seen on the ball. Man or woman. I fell in love with her game immediately.I’m calling it now…she’ll be one of the best midfielders in USWNT history. 17 years old, very calm on the ball and made great pass after great pass today.
Their recruiting big boards must be ridiculous with some of these younger players…and that’s cool you’ve got a coaching “war story”. I’m kinda like your situation where I’ve coached & coached against a bunch of girls that go on to play at decent colleges but when you see a special talent you’ve got to appreciate it - even if it sucks and they’re killing your squad. When I saw her last year in the game where she received her first cap, she was calmer than any player I’ve ever seen on the ball. On a side note, I coached against Ally Sentnor when she was like 11. My team was U14 at the time and she was U12 playing up in age 2 years. She made plays at will on us and this was a regional level elite game. She was playing for a team in Massachusetts. It’s not like I had a novice team. My team was filled with future college players. But Sentnor was that much better. My coaching counterpart called his connections in US Soccer (Erika Walsh-PSU/USWNT) at the time to tell her that they needed to be aware of her…and Erica told him that they were already aware of her. Unreal.
I love hearing stories like this. There was a poster here whose daughter played on a high level Tennessee club team and was being recruited by plenty of D1 and P4 level schools. I don’t know what happened to him or if he changed screen names. He was a good dude and I hope his daughter is doing well. She might be out of school or in her 4th year by now. And good call on Yohannes last year. I’m late to the party…haha…
One of my daughter’s club teammates just got called into the USWNT U-19 camp. She was Tennessee’s striker this past year as a freshman. Her stats weren’t that great but she is fast and physical so maybe she gives them something different they wanted to check out.
It’s such an interesting time when you’ve got so many young USWNT players competing professionally and collegiately. For some it’s the right move…for others I think they’d be better off just developing first before trying out the biggest stages.
She is starting tonight. Looking forward to watching this. I also want to see how Albert looks in the midfield and Cat Macario up top.I’m calling it now…she’ll be one of the best midfielders in USWNT history. 17 years old, very calm on the ball and made great pass after great pass today.
