OT: Why doesn't Brandin Knight take a HC job somewhere?

Has he been offered one or even pursued by any teams?
Knight isn't in position to get any kind of head coaching job that's going to forward his career. Assistants at winning programs get offered head coaching jobs. The better the program the assistant comes from, the better the job he can get. No one is breaking down their doors to hire assistants from scrub schools. He might be able to get a D2, or NAIA job. That's not the path to take if you want to be a head coach in D1. You need to be spectacularly successful at those levels to draw D1 interest, and it won't be high level D1 interest either. Being an assistant at the P5 level is the best path to becoming a D1 head coach.

And that’s pretty much what I figured. I don’t follow it that closely but still didn’t think he had anything of note. I’m sure he could get the head job somewhere but as you said it could very easily be a step backwards.

Plus, isn't Brandon from that area, so he is basically getting the rare opportunity to coach at the D1 level while raising his family among extended family, and I suppose when he sees the right situation he will be ready.

He's getting experience at a Big 10 school, after having earned experience
at an ACC school, Pitt. I think he has a higher level assistant position at
Rutgers. If so, he's on the right track moving upwards. The best thing he
can do now is become an ace recruiter and make a name for himself in
that regard. He's home in N.J. where he has great contacts. there's a lot
of smaller D1 programs in that area.... the N.Y. metropolitan area. The
Fordahm's, Manhattan's, Iona's, St. Francis, St. Peter's, Wagner, LIU,
etc. etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these, or schools like
these offer him in the next few years.

I love Brandin but I think his window has closed for landing any half way decent head coaching job and left while Pitt was on its decline. He made a career mistake staying so long as an assistant at Pitt. All he has on his resume now is assistant at Pitt and at lowly Rutgers.

He seems like the kind of guy that might be really good at doing something similar to what Aaron Gray is doing now but BK could do it in his New Jersey area.

With Toole at RMU lacking any recent success, wouldn’t mind seeing BK as the head coach at Bobby Mo in the near future.

Knight is in a dead end at Rutgers. He has to move on. Pikiell only has another year or 2 there before he's canned.

You really have to be in the right spot. Hard as it is to believe, Ashton Gibbs may be in a better spot to eventually land a gig than Brandin. The dead is being raised at Duquesne, and Ashton is on the staff there. All of the insiders know what a dead end that program's been, and if they end up having a great season, they're going to get lots of attention, and the guys on that staff are going to get on the radar of the lower level D1 schools. Rutgers is another dead end, but even though they're better, they have a much harder road in front of them. Who is going to hire Brandin if that staff gets the boot in a year or two? Maybe high school, or D3 would be in his future.

Keep in mind that Mike Rice was at Pitt when we were winning big. This got him the job at RMU. I would think his being at Pitt helped a lot, as well as people knowing who his dad was. If he was just some guy, on the staff of an also ran in another city, I doubt that RMU would have ever looked his way. Brandin is in that spot. He needs for Rutgers to win if he wants to move up.

I don't quite see it that way. I mentioned in a previous post the N.Y.
Div 1 metropolitan schools that are near where he's from, and where
he's coaching. He's an assistant and is well known in that area. I
believe he's in a good position going forward.

Dambrot is kicking it.

My sources tell me Shaheen Holloway May be in a situation at St. Peter’s (and you know I have the best sources). If he could get it, despite it being a bad job, he should 100 percent take it.

He's only 37. Bobby Hurley didn't even become an assistant at Wagner until he was 37.

True. But sometimes certain people have "it" to become a good HC and others do not. I don't know enough about Brandin to know if he does or doesn't. But there is no shame is finding a niche as a great assistant and never becoming a HC.

As for the earlier reference to Toole, I think he has the RMU job for just about as long as he wants it, provided they make the tourney every half decade or so.

And that could really boost the profile of Ashton. If they can do well over the next few years, he could land on a high profile staff, or even become the head coach at a lower level school. It really helps to be on the right staff. If the head coach is well respected, that helps even more. Would love to see Ashton become successful.
