Sorry to Vince McMahon, but the XFL is going to fail again, the AAF is way ahead of them, they have a CBS TV deal and if you look at their website, they've already chosen 8 cities and every team has pretty much name brand, big time coaches. Former Pitt player Tim Lewis is one of them.

The jury is still out on both of the leagues. McMahon is putting $500 million into the league, I'm going to give them a chance at least.

We are over saturated with football as is. We need more football like we need a hole in the head.

I think FCS should move to the Spring. Slow sports time and there is still a market for live football.

I do think that the XFL will succeed somewhat. It wont be the NFL but it can do ok.

I think college football is a Fall game and not to be bandied about to other seasons and anyone who proposes such is a borderline anarchist. ..Do you not have 37 soccer leagues out there to watch worldwide to keep you occupied like Friendlies or Meanies or whatever the hell they are called?

It is but nobody watches it. ESPN or somebody would pay a meaningful amount of money to televise FCS in the spring.

Cant believe you brought that up. About a year+ ago, this topic was on one of the college football shows on Sirius/XM, not fcs but D1 (NON P5) football coming together, separating from P5 and playing in spring. it was an awesome topic.

A million logistical issues and yeah, kind of far fetched but a really interesting idea. They were using UAB as an example of how they'd benefit not having to compete with Alabama for fans, tv, etc..

got it ...Seniors can hang around until mid June playing down level football instead of getting on with their lives...Rugby Sevens ( Awesome game!) would fill that Spring time better if ESPN is looking for a niche sport or expand the mic'd up F-word CFL games.

hang around playing college football, enjoying college life or getting a job and living in the real world? I'd pick the first option.

There are tons of issues that would arise with spring football, college kids finishing out their senior year with the spring semester isn't one of them.

Why would anyone care, college football has nothing to do with education, it mainly a TV PRODUCT.

well considering that a lot of football athletes (read 99.99% not going on to the pros) finish in 3.5 years because of time on campus during spring and summers and are out in January anyways, I beg to differ..

yes and folks will have no interest watching FCS football in the Spring as it will be college football's ratings version of the WNBA...

LOL, my daughter talks about how she "can't wait to get a job and be in the real world" LOL! I tell her that she's freaking CRAZY! She's going into her senior year in high school, she's a starter for her school soccer team, she's in a ballet group, and she has a part time job now! I tell her don't be STUPID and give up soccer or dance for some $9/hour job! Hell, I'd quit my 6 figure IT job to play one more year of high school football if I could! Hell, I'd quit to play another year of CYO Basketball! I mean, I tell her don't worry, soon enough you won't be having fun with your friends, playing ball in a stadium with people watching, you'll get your wish and be in the mind numbing existence of adulthood! DON'T RUSH IT!

I think it would get better ratings than that.

wait, 99.99% of college football players who don't go pro, finish college in 3 1/2 years?

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not (if not, I apologize) but yeah. Heck, I'd say most collegiate athletes in general do. I know kids who go on to play D1 football, wrestling, softball, etc. that are required to get there in the summer to start on classes and workouts so they're ahead during the school year and have more class flexibility. Not uncommon to see them do it again the next summer, and the next.

From the little information that we have on the XFL, it's hard to say what it's going to offer. There's a big investment and they seem very interested in giving football fans the game that they want in the NFL. The more I hear about the AAF, the less I'm interested. There's a bunch of retired guys as head coaches, is there going to be much of a commitment? No kickoffs or extra points. It's like it's a testing ground for potential NFL rule changes they're looking at implementing one day. Not buying this league at all.

I did not say that. I said 99.99% (ok, I made it up for effect but it is a large number) FCS (not all college, FCS is the sub section that SMF's inane idea #2,267 dealt with) players do not go pro. That part of the sentence did not deal with the "a lot of" phrase earlier in the sentence which went directly to the point after the parenthesis that being seniors at Slobobia State might want to get on with their lives. However, the ones that do finish in 3.5 years probably could have interpreted that sentence more effectively.

The very few FCS players who finish in 3.5 years could certainly just graduate and get a real job, but most of the good players will not.

Like it or not, FCS football in the spring has a lot more TV value than it does in the fall. This doesn't mean they will consider doing it but if enough money is there, they would.

FCS has no TV value. It's not like a "Patriot League" TV network is suddenly going to blossom because their televising Saturday games in May against the NHL and NBA.
