Just cut the cord finally. Only really saving $50 per month moving to YouTube TV from Comcast Xfinity.

Where comcast gets me is having to stay with them for internet which costs $120/month for the 800MBps speed. That’s just crazy expensive but don’t know if I can go to a lower tier.

I could opt to switch my mobile phone out from Verizon to Xfinity for $30 per month, which is a reduction from the $150 I am paying right now for two lines (phone and watch). Anyone ever go this route?

We have Verizon Fios and Verizon cellular along with YouTubeTV . With 3 cells plus my watch(+$5 add on to my number ) . My wife’s watch is WiFi only .

Why on earth are you paying $120 a month for internet? And why on earth do you need 800 mbps?
I don’t know. You tell me? What do I need?. I have someone in the house conferencing all day, 7 tvs, several phones, tablets and other things. And then when my kid comes home from college and games, my usage goes through the roof so I think I need an unlimited plan.

Thanks in advance.

Are you talking speed or data limit?

I've always wondered if those cheapo plans offered by Mint Mobile, Boost, etc are worth it. I mean they use the networks of the big 3 and I know they dont have first access to those networks but how many times is your call really going to get dropped?

A single HD stream is 5 meg. A 4k ultra HD stream is approximately 15 meg - assuming you even have capable devices. A typical video conference stream is 2 meg.

You do the math. I don't know anyone outside of a small business with 10 plus employees or a data center who needs more than 100 meg. It's all cable company marketing.

If you get 5G Verizon service at home, I would seriously consider looking at their home internet and dropping Comcast.

One thing with xfinity is that you don’t get a personal hot spot. But they offer those xfinity hot spots everywhere…but any time I tried in the past I couldn’t get good speeds.

Thank you very kindly!!!

I have my wife and kids on Cricket, which uses the AT&T network. I have Verizon through work and their service is probably better than mine.

I have my in-laws on mint mobile, which uses T-Mobile network. I've never had one complaint from them. T-Mobile might have the best network in the country. It's cheaper than cricket, and I'm considering moving everything over to mint.

My Xfinity internet is $50/mth and my Xfinity cell phone is $20/mth for 3gigs of data. I only purchase the 3gigs because I have wifi at work and home so I don't really need a bunch of data. I stream all my television using Vita (gives me a dizzying amount of stations) at $50/yr. I have at very little issues with my tv setup. Granted that it's much more convenient to flip stations with cable but I can live with this knowing I'm saving $$.

Everything works well for me.

T mobile uses Verizon network and is much cheaper. Use Samsclub or Costco for best deals.

I've had Mint for over a year and for 2 lines with unlimited texting, etc., I pay about $25/month for each line. They have introductory rates of as low as $15/month. I've never had a complaint and I don't even know I don't have AT&T any longer. Don't miss that crap one bit, especially the high prices.

If I could find a decent ISP and get rid of Xfinity, I'd do it tomorrow. I'm trying to drop Xfinity for TV but that's the only provider that shows Pirates and Penguins games. I always use Hulu when I'm watching TV anyhow, never Xfinity. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get Penguins and Pirates without Xfinity?

How is your xfinity only $50? At @Gunga_Galunga ’s advice, I downgraded to Xfinity’s cheapest internet this AM. It’s 125mb speed and $90. Still cheaper than the 120 I was paying for 800 unlimited, but now I’m going to have to pay $8 for Peacock because it doesn’t come with the lower internet tier and for me Peacock is a must. My fear is what happens if I go over my usage and getting charged. They don’t tell you what that cost is.

Xfinity has me by the balls.

doesnt AT&T Sportsnet or whatever they are now offer a plan to watch the games for like $15 a month or something like that?

How would you go over your usage for internet ?
Data limits are a cellular issue

Yes , think it’s $16.99 if your tv provider doesn’t have it (like every streaming platform except FuboTV-
Which is likely the best option for those who want it .)

wouldnt speed and connection be an issue with more devices with lower speed? Im asking, far from an expert on the matter.
Are you a high speed gamer?
Are your running 4 devices at once while also running two conference calls with video ?

Then no .
Upgrade your WiFi router , and unplug it once a month for 20 seconds and restart it to clear the cache .
I do that even with 1 G internet .
Keeps it zippy .

Comcast’s higher tier internet plans lists “unlimited” in their features. The lower plans do not use the “unlimited” terminology so I assume there’s a limit and Somewhere along the way I want to say that I learned 1G was the threshold and anything more comes at a cost.

In looking at my history, I noticed that I went above 1000mb three times-Nov, may, and June and was close but under 1000 several other months. When I went over, it makes sense because that’s when my son was home from school and gaming.

Comcast is a garbage company then.
So they are simply throttling speeds after some limit but you still have internet .
They are treating it like a cellular plan .

Yep. For whatever reason Fios won’t come up my street and other providers like ATT that H2P above mentioned, don’t come into my area. I can get Elon’s starlink for 120 or stick with GE’s xfinity.

Vita? Do you have to connect through a browser? I don’t see it in an App Store.

So
Have you noticed a drop off in internet performance in those months ?
Cause odds are it’s not noticeable .
Gives you a good reason to leave the camera off when doing zooms or teams meetings !

No. I don’t notice a drop at all. I will be curious now with the 125 plan if the tv lags while someone is on a teams call.

It's a bit clunky to start but after set up it's ok. I'll explain: Vita is only a service you purchase online, (vitaiptv.com). Once purchased you download a "player" from the app store. I use a free player (smarters pro, for samsung tv's) but there ones that charge (maybe they work better). At this point you need to input the credentials from Vita to the player and your service is ready to go. this last step was a a bit of a pain for me because of the different players available and the codes the supply for each but I texted them and they reply relatively quick.

I listed the math earlier. An HD feed is 5 meg. That's it. You can have 20 separate HD feeds with 100 meg. Video conferences through Teams are less.

Do a speed test on your internet and it will tell you what your actually getting with what you have. Cable internet speeds are variable.

No chance if you're really getting 125 meg.

I made it through COVID with 25 meg DSL service with 2 people working from home and three kids doing virtual school.

Check if Verizon or T-Mobile offer 5G internet at your home.

They don’t. My some houses in my neighborhood do but mine does not. I guess it’s how my house sits. I wonder if I put the hardware by a window upstairs if it would pick it up…but probably not.

My neighbor owns rental units in Oakland and has houses with 12 students and he said it doesn’t work in those situations. But other rentals he owns with less people it does.

Call Comcast and tell them you're going to cancel unless they reduce you to the introductory rate.

I do this every May and sign a 1 year contract with them for like $70/month (I think I have around a gig, maybe only 800).

We also recently got ATT fiber in my neighborhood but AFAIK I'm locked in with Comcast until early 2025. I know their intro prices are even lower than what Comcast offers.

Mesh router is a game changer. I can get WiFi signal down the street. I absolutely never have a problem anywhere in my home or on my porch.
