OT: Your List of Favorite Music Artists ever ...

It just occurred to me that I missed or haven't seen any references including my own to the Ramones? I definitely should have included them on my list.

The Ram Ones were defo on my list. Imho the second greatest band ever, behind only the Beatles. The Beatles changed EVERYTHNG, and the Ramones changed music when they more or less invented punk rock.

Another REM fan here. I caught onto them late (I'm 40) but became very familiar with their early stuff. Was just in Athens yesterday.

Most of the rest of my list is from the UK.

New Order - Joy Division was tremendous but NO blew the lid off with such great singles throughout the 80s. They really fell fast though and should have hung it up without Hooky. Sumner and Marr's first album together as Electronic was also a classic.

Pink Floyd - I'm a huge David Gilmour fan. I think he's one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. I can play Floyd albums repeatedly and it never gets old.

The Who - Not much to say here. Pete Townshend is a genius songwriter.

Small Faces - They were huge but could have been massive. It's too bad Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane didn't persist as a team. Also too bad they both died young.

Other UK bands include The Chameleons and Love and Rockets.

Alice in Chains - just such great depth and unbelievable catalog. Few voices better than that of Layne Staley.

I agree with you that many undervalue New Order because of a love for Joy Division. New Order was imho a more important band than Joy Division, and I was thrilled the last few times I saw NO that they have now embraced their JD origins.

Mrs Buffett and I watched Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes on Friday night at Hard Rock in AC.

What a show!

It was in a venue with half seats and half open floor where people can dance, drink and party. That's where we were!

Southside Johney grew up with Springstein in NJ, they're good friends, Springstein made it big and Johnny didn't.

Well they were great! Springstein and George Thorogood music style!
They played for over two hours and everyone had fun.

If they're in your area its a must see!

Saw them about a month ago. Band was great, songs great, but his voice sounded awful. Maybe it was a bad night?

As much as I like and respect Kiss and Paul Stanley, I would not include him even in a list of top 100 frontmen, especially if vocal ability is the standard.
No offense but that is crazy. He has one of the most unique and recognizable voices ever to go along with incredible range. You are one of the few who must disagree.

Google "Paul Stanley's voice" and you may have cause to reconsider me as one of only a few. They are going to great lengths to preserve what is left of his voice. I would agree that his voice is recognizable. So is Bob Dylan's, but he is not a great singer. Mostly Paul's voice is memorable now for things like "Last night, in PHILADELPHIA, the crowd was CRAZZZZZEEEEE. But I KNOW, I KNOWWWWW, that SPRINGFIELD can be CRRRRAZZZZZIERRRRR! LET ME HEAAAAAARRRR YOUUUUUU!".

If you think we were and are talking present then let me clarify... I am not . But longevity, voice talent and career heights, you will not find many better. Sure he is a shell now but he is also 67 lol. I saw them in Philly. Regardless, nobody controlled the stage like him. Even non kiss fans agree. But yes its a shame what happened now. Shouldve given up in 2004.

I just like the somber moodiness of Ian Curtis and Joy Division over New Order

Fair enough. I don't agree that he was a great singer back in the day either, but there is no denying the stage presence and rock and roll attitude. I can relate, too, thinking back to seeing The Faces on their last tour (1975), and what an incredible frontman Rod Stewart was then, in comparison to what he is now.

I guess thats ok. Studies of vocal power has shown he was just a shade below freddie at both their bests on certain song tests. I love Stewart also. Really. Hes got some great tunes.
