Maia: 7 minutes, 2 points, 1 rebound
Ododa: 2 minutes, 0 points, 0 rebounds
Smith: 8 minutes, 1 assist, zero attempted shots

Might as well go down to a 7-man rotation that doesn't include any of them.... we're practically there already.

I';ll say this--I was shocked to see that Maia only played 7 minutes. That doesn't sound right, but if the box score says that, I'm sure it's true--but it was a loud 7 minutes. he was very active defensively and worked really hard, and really effectively, against Onuaku. Moved his feet really well in hedging and recovering, kept his body on Onuaku and forced him a little further away from the hoop than he likes to play. he did a very nice job with his minutes and was an important player for us last night IMO.

Maia can be effective, but it feels like Dixon gets nervous about getting enough scoring in tight games and moves away from him as the game progresses.

Luther playing so well put Maia on the bench. Luther had a positive mismatch offensively against their big guy and exploited it. also, Luther seemed to do just about as well defensively. Maia played decently, Pitt was better with Luther at center.

Plumlee is the only healthy rebounder on Duke right now.

We need to pull him away from the basket the way we did with Onuaku last night.

That means that Luther needs to play 30+ minutes at the 5 on Sunday.

Pull Plumlee away from the basket, and Pitt could conceivably have 10+ offensive rebounds. And we'll need that.

Of course... Coach K is likely to play a lot of zone to save energy and limit the foul risk with no bench .... and in that case, Artis and Luther will be key in that they need to make their jumpers.

Yes - but how many minutes did Young play at center? and how effective was he?

We should never, ever have Young, Jeter and Artis on the floor at the same time (except maybe against Syr) Whatever they do offensively is really outweighed by what they do not do defensively.

Agree.

Is this your way of saluting JD's stellar recruiting? Biggest whiff since Kaydro Alvarez' last swing at a change up.

Tough matchups for our guards: better than usual matchups for our bigs. Home floor will help. We will need to shoot a high percentage. Duke will want a fast pace even though they aren't deep. They will shoot a ton of 3s and we will need to extend our D out further than we like to. Going against the best coach in college baskeball. For the second straight game, we won't have any kind of edge on the sideline.

ANO is useless. We should have kept Uchebo instead of him. Smith is only good against a zone or sagging defense if his shot is on. Maia is good against certain teams.
