So far we know Penn State is open and that BC is 95% certain to be moving on from Christian.

Ruling out trying to predict the departure of one of the blue blood Hall of Famers like Boeheim or Williams or one of the FBI coaches like Wade, I’m only seeing a few other potentials...

K-State: Program hasn’t capitalized on the Elite 8 from a few years back. Bruce Weber is probably back, but wouldn’t be surprised if a change is made.

Iowa State: Winless so far in Big 12 and headed for 3rd losing season in 4 years. The one exception was a good team that was a 6 seed in the NCAAs. Prohm should be ok, but wouldn’t be a surprise either.

Otherwise, I don’t see any other obvious ones. Hopkins recruits well enough to keep his job at Washington even though they have been bad the last few years, Cal just brought in Mark Fox a few years ago so he should be ok and Tinkle at Oregon State is having a decent season.

Mark Schmidt would be the perfect hire for BC in my opinion. Probably could get him for a bottom ACC salary and he is used to recruiting in less than ideal situations compared to his conference opponents.

Penn State I have no idea. Such a wild card because this is Barbour’s one and only basketball hire. They seem to really be enamored with keeping a Philly pipeline, but I have no idea who that would be.

Thoughts? Predictions?

If I were Penn State, I’d go for the “home run” hire and reach out to Jim Beilein or Phil Martelli, the latter of which would certainly help keep the Philly pipeline open.

Not sure where to begin for Boston College. Depends on if they want a young, up-and-comer or a someone like a Schmidt or Vermont’s John Becker who’ve had success at the mid major level.

Washington is awful. I would not be surprised to see them get rid of Hopkins.

Syracuse - Jerry McNamara appears to be getting groomed for the job.

PS - If PS finishes the year strong, then I would not be surprised if they kept the same staff in place. Bball hasn’t been a priority for them.

BC - Schmidt seems like a good possibility.

Iowa St - I think Prohm gets another year.
K. St - I think Weber gets another year.

Vandy - Stackhouse might go to NBA as an assistant. If not this year, then maybe next.

Originally I thought beilen would be the psu choice. Now not sure if psu cares enough about hoops to pay him. Boston College must have some internal issues after reading about the administration making them play with a weakened roster. Some one would have do a lot of research to see if the job is a good one. St.Bono. Has been a great fit for Schmidt and he seems to enjoy it, Bc would be a real chance in my opinion for him.

Does Indiana make a change if it misses the tournament? That would make five straight years not playing in it, same streak than Pitt. It must kill those fans how Ohio State hires good coaches from Butler and IU can’t seem to find its guy.

This seems accurate. Especially STACK and Penn State. If Ferry pulls out the next 2 games, they’re in the field at the moment. They’re currently team 69 (nice) on Lunardi’s bracket. I would imagine they’d go new assistants at that point but if they somehow squeak in they can’t get rid of him.

Is there something I’m missing regarding PSU basketball? How are they this close to making it in with a 7-8 record? Is it a combination of who they’ve beaten while avoiding “the bad loss?”

Because the big ten is the bestest conference ever according to people smarter than me. Their advanced metrics are very good. They’re top 35 in NET I believe.

Martelli wouldn’t be a bad idea as an assistant, hard pass as the head guy. He is in no way qualified to lead a P6 team, I wouldn’t even consider him for a mid major job at this point.

Speaking of Martelli, what in the world has happened to St. Joseph’s? They have to be regretting that move.

Their NET is 29. All they have to do is finish a game above .500 and they will become the worst-ever at-large team from a record standpoint.

I'm not sure I'd want him but he seems qualified enough to be a mid major coach given the decades of winning. Probably a little too old now though.

That's because Penn State has made the NCAA Tournament every year.

Except for tbe years that they didn't.

A subsequent tweet from Goodman mentioned Howard Eisley, who is now on the Michigan staff. He played at BC in the early 90s as some here will recall.

I think they’re officially done after losing to Nebraska. I still wouldn’t be surprised at all if Ferry remains the coach next season.

And yesterday was the first time ever I read negative comments about Brad Stevens’ coaching and his time maybe being up in Boston. I always have read he’ll be offered the Duke job first.
