Package Deal

I'd have no problem with it. The knock against Hardy is size. There are countless examples of skill position players who were overlooked because of size that end up being good football players. Hardy makes plays on offense and defense.

Knock on a kid named Aaron Donald was size too. He turned out to be a bum. Lol

We should bring in Devonshire and Hardy as recruits. They are 2 good local players from schools that have been Pitt friendly over the years. They are both good players and good friends as well. Seal the deal coach.

I think you really have to be careful in bringing in Hardy especially since he is a local kid. Let me explain....

1st I do think he is good enough to play at this level. And the performance in the state championship is one for the ages. But if you bring in a local player from a top local FB school and they don’t get good PT is can hurt you. We gave a kid like Ben D a chance and now his school holds it against Pitt.

If we were a spread 4 and 5 WR team he would make a nice slot WR IMO. But you only have 1 football and lots of guys need the ball. We have a small guy in Carter who needs the ball (not even counting someone like Ffrench who will be a Sr). But the difference is Carter has about 20 or so pounds more muscle than Hardy and Carter can flat out FLY. Hardy is not fast 4.65 but is real quick. We are bringing in a frosh (yes he is a RB not WR) in Davis who is another small guy that will need touches. Keep in mind we didn’t have enough touches for a kid like Shockey and he should be better next year. Plus don’t be surprised if the frosh DB Woods is next in line as a jet sweep guy as he runs a 4.38 40.

If you want Hardy as a DB you really can only have so many small DB’s. Maddox was real good and the staff is really high on Frosh Williams who is only 5’8” 165. Add in Woods who is not that big also.

IMO there is nothing Hardy does better than Devonshire. Add in Devonshire is bigger and faster. I think Devonshire is his own man and won’t decide on a school because we might take his friend. Plus I really think we will get Devonshire regardless. Devonshire gives you more options as he has good size at DB. Can play O and is a great return man.

To sum up my looooong response I think Hardy can play here but from what I stated above he may have a tough time getting PT for a while. Next thing you know ppl are bitching and his HS who always has talent holds it against us. I wonder if he really had Mich & Mich St offers...if so why did he not take an official before the season started? Last it does not seem like we have much space left as 1 ship is left for Devonshire. George Jr will prob get one. After that we have space only if kids leave. They like the Ugwa kid out of NJ who gives you options as a big RB, LB or DE. And we will prob look at a grad transfer TE or OT...

A side note...

Back about ten years ago, DW recruited a player that was about the same size and was a 4 Star player. He received a lot of P5 offers, but when he came to Pitt, he didn’t do squat....

Cam Saddler.... He was part of the Terry Smith propaganda machine where a Gateway player RARELY played to the level of their hype...

I’d take a chance with Hardy only if Devonshire comes with him... His performance in the championship was eye opening...

There are 4 former Pitt players on the PH staff.

In Cam's defense he was reported to be a hell of a student recruiter, helping bring in Mike Shanahan, Jared Holley, and Andrew Taglianetti (along with Tino and Shayne Hale). Cam was worth it just for Shanahan and Holley.

Cam also tore his ACL in I believe his first practice. For a guy who was literally all about his speed and quicks, that injury probably sealed the deal. I know most people come back fine from the ACL, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He also wasn't terrible (45 catches and 4 TD's).

Exactly right. The first week of practice he went from the #8 "athlete" recruit in the country to a more borderline P5 player from that injury. I don't think he ever cut as fast as he used to, though I only have the limited high school film clips anyone else does.

He remained a good team leader and was like everyone's friend on the team. That paid dividends in recruiting. So many other players flamed out, he at least also contributed on the field a bit too.

My recollection not so rosey. Too many lame brain farts on special teams. That does come with the package, no?

If the staff sees them as both good enough then yea go after them and try to get them. But if you’re giving one to Hardy for the sole purpose of getting Devonshire - I’ll pass. Team still has too many needs to piss away a scholly.

Going back to Rooster Jones and Hugh Green... it's a great idea to take a tandem if the pal helps deliver the big prize. We have multiple other threads on going now questioning the value of many of the recruits who were taken who brought only themselves to the party; why begrudge one to a guy who appears no worse than some of them, plus may bring a jewel along?

Rooster was the prize and Green the afterthought. Interesting how things work out sometimes.

Whatever it takes! :D

If the guy is good enough, give scholarships to the girlfriends too. Term to term of course, because they almost certainly will break up once he's on campus with the delectable co-ed goodness at his disposal.

Pitt needs playmakers. I'm not worried if I have too many small guys on my roster if I believe they can go out and make plays. I haven't seen Hardy enough to know if he can play at the next level, but I do know he showed up in a big way in one of the biggest games of his career. That would at least make me go back and look at film from the rest of his season.

His uncle was a great basketball player at Pitt too.

Hardy has preferred walk-on written all over him...

He wasn't the same after the ACL. His high school video versus what he was when he started playing for Pitt we're pretty different.
