Paris Ford

If I was Paris Ford, I would transfer now! What kind of Jackass would stick with Briggs and his less than MAC level talent, while he gets roasted the entire game. Narduzzi and this staff are lost. They wonder why they can't recruit 4 star talent and then when they get one they won't play him. As some have already suggested, even if Ford was mentallly retarded, he would still be 10 times the player Briggs is. This team is doomed with the schedule we have.

Kenny Robinson a 3* high school LB started 8 games at Safety last year for wvu as a TRUE FRESHMAN, tied for team lead with int’s and was All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention.

Pitt has a 4* Safety who everybody and their mother wanted and 2 years in, he can’t even get on the field.

Think about that for a minute. Why would Raines or anybody else worth a damn come here. Losing is 1 thing to me, not playing your most talented players is what puts me over the edge. You think some 4* talent wants to come to Pitt to sit behind Briggs, Motley, Zeise etc? The only reason they would come here is for immediate PT instead of sitting behind other 4*’s.

This is Pitt so its injury, suspension or sulking if he didn't play against penn st. at home.

I don’t get it... Narduzzi has bragged about how good he is and teased us all, “Wait until you see what he can do” and then he even made a comment about how some kids you got to let play in a game to see how good they really are. Yet, no Ford in the game.

How many more precious opportunities is PN going to squander this year.

I am going to guess that Ford will be starting after the GT game. If he is having trouble, the coaches were probably afraid to have him play against PSU and GT

I agree with you that they should have been better, and in order for his scheme to work you need superior talent across the board. Any team with a good passing attack is going to put up yards on us. Right or wrong - Narduzzi wants to stop the run first and foremost and take his chances in the passing game.
Actually this scheme allows the complete opposite to be true. You can have a huge talent advantage in the secondary and be susceptible to scheming that completely negates that advantage.

A potential answer to the questions above is maybe isn’t that good. So if I’m a recruit, I’m not shying away because of that.

When he finally showed up last Pre-season practice the Duzz said he was the most impressive FR he ever saw.

What happened since

I thought he looked good as field corner against Albany. If he can't grasp the mental parts of the defense, keep him over there using his physical tools.

Obviously if the coaches are keeping him off the field because of problems we don't know about, that's another story. But they should be able to use a guy with his abilities somehow.

Pre- debacle thinking: Could Ford play every down??? Why not!

Post-debacle thinking: Cal U or IUP next year? Or directly to the supplemental draft (with two years post- HS already down)? Will he be a Tiger Cat or Rough Rider after that falls through?

This is one of those occasions when the guard should be let down just a smidge and let the rabble in on just a tiny bit of detail so that these wild swings in thinking canbe avoided

I think he means like really superior talent. Clemson and Ohio State run very similar schemes. When you murder the QB if he holds the ball for more than two steps, it doesn't matter much what coverage you run.

Historically people have said quarters coverage has a lot of strengths:
  • Can match up against four vertical passing threats/single back offenses
  • Can easily put 8 or 9 in the box without risk of someone running down field uncovered
  • Corners can easily press or not press, you have options.
  • You can double outside receivers easily against two back teams or teams not attacking safeties with inside receivers.
Basically it was sold as a good defense against spread era teams and it has worked very well for some teams. It might be the most popular overall coverage in college football now (and almost definitely is int he NFL) though not everyone runs it as much as Narduzzi, that is for sure.

Historically people said it had these weaknesses:
  • Flats are sometimes too open
  • Puts too much pressure on the safeties with play action
I think one thing that has changed as Narduzzi went from MSU to Pitt has that "play action" weakness has more than doubled because of the growth of the run/pass option. RPO run well is a quarters killer. Now safeties are being read by quarterbacks in a way that they'll be wrong no matter what.

If you have some dominant individual players, no problem, but if you have dominant individual players, you can do a lot of schemes and win. Hell I'd just go cover 1 and Cover 3 like Saban if I had a team of studs, but we don't.

He says Hamlin has the best hip fludity he's ever seen coming out of CC... and moves him to safety.
He gets Ford, moves him to CB, just to play behind friggin' Phillipe Motley.

Absolutely mindbogggling. At this point, I'm half expecting him to land Devonshire, move him to Kicker after having him languish on the bench for three seasons.

To be clear, Jackson & Mathis are our best CB's, but Ford needs to be on the field.

Against spread offenses, if you don't have 3 three levels of elite talent, that system is completely reliant on perfect coverage every play or awful QB play. Eventually it breaks and allows chunk yardage plays. Against mostly plodding, box offenses who don't stretch the field you can be successful if you stop the run. We don't stop the run. We are never going to have 3 levels of elite talent.
