Yeah, there isn’t a lot of star power with most of these recruits, but they aren’t as bad as people are crying about….

Justin Thompson OLB – Offers from FLA, So Carolina, N. Carolina, Duke, Cal, Baylor

Tony Kinsler APB – Rated 5.7 on Rivals

Elijah Dotson DB - 4 Star on ESPN. Offers include, Michigan, PSU, Tennessee

Damarion Fowlkes WR - Besides Pitt, offered by 6 other P4 teams. Big time track guy. Lots of speed. Was among the most outstanding players at Penn State’s 7 on 7 camp.

Trevor Sommers DE – Besides Pitt, offered by 7 other P4 teams

Mason Heintschel QB – Earned rave reviews at ELITE 11 camp

Bryce Yates WR – Known as one of the better kept secrets in Virginia

Ja'Kyrian Turner WR - Besides Pitt, offered by 3 other P4 teams. His standout attribute is his exceptional speed, clocking a 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. Ran the 40 as low as 4.29 (unofficial) Top 100 Florida recruit.

Julian Anderson ATH - Besides Pitt, offered by 4 other P4 teams. Per a USA Today article

6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete also played wide receiver, finishing with 40 catches for 672 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Not many edge rushers are athletic – and quick enough – to also play wide receiver. If he can add size and maintain his speed and agility, then Pitt will have landed a player who could be a truly elite defensive end.”

Shawn Lee DB – Received two other P5 offers. Lee is an exceptional athlete and had a fantastic junior season in 2023. He completed 144-of-215 passes, 67.0%, for 2,256 yards and 26 touchdowns to 5 interceptions, while rushing 163 times for 1,451 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground at quarterback. He also made 47 tackles (32 solo), plus 5 interceptions and one returned for a touchdown at cornerback. Watch this kid’s film.

Max Hunt TE - Besides Pitt, offered by 7 other P4 teams

Shep Turk OL – Plays with a nasty streak. Understands leverage from being a wrestler. Did not participate in camp circuit or would have blown up.

Akram Elnagmi OL – A project, but worth the risk. OL is the hardest to evaluate. He’s huge, with a 7-foot wingspan. With continued progression and collegiate coaching, he could develop into a massive mismatch for defensive ends as a tackle.

A few reminders for those who’s memories are as short as their dicks:

-The highest rated class under Narduzzi was 2021. Except for a couple of low rated recruits, it’s produced squat.

-The lowly class of 2019 (57th-ranked by Rivals and 49th-ranked by 247Sports) produced a four-star in Matt Goncalves, who committed way before he was a four-star, but Brandon Hill, Calijah Kancey, Jared Wayne and A.J. Woods were lowly three-stars. SirVocea Dennis was a two-star. That’s six NFL players in one class.

-None of these players have played their senior seasons yet. Could blow up during the season.

-The staff is new. It takes time to establish relationships. The true test of recruiting ability will be next season

My guesses:

Torian Chester OT – Lots of scholarships. But Pitt is his only P4 offer.

Denim Cook LB – 4 P4 offers

Emmanuel Taylor LB – One other P4 offer. No other scheduled visits

Emmanuel Taylor LB – Great athlete. Last season, he made 130 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and eight sacks last season at linebacker, while also putting in work at wideout and in the wildcat as quarterback. He is also great in track and field, running 15.58 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles as a sophomore. He also ran the 300-meter hurdles in 43.08 seconds and the 100-meter reps in 11.79 seconds. 247Sports rates Taylor as the 100th-ranked athlete and 24th-ranked recruit from Virginia. VT wanted him badly.

Offers are not the best judge of a recruit in 2024. Programs are throwing out hundreds of offers per year starting when players are freshmen in high school.

Torian Chester has now committed as well. So that's two out of three so far....

Torian Chester OL - Had a solid junior season, making the Georgia Coaches All-State First Team and the Georgia High School Football Daily First Team All-Region in 2023. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Chester is a force on the offensive line and overpowers almost all defensive ends, as he normally plays at tackle.

We always say "OL is toughest to project" because Narduzzi has consistently sucked at recruiting o linemen. If OL was so hard to project the big boy schools wouldn't be getting the very best linemen as often as they do. The huge athletic guys are usually better than the guys Pitt lands.

Kha’leal Sterling WR - Besides Pitt, offered by 6 other P4 teams, including Arkansas & Oregon. Explosive playmaker, Sterling averaged better than 22 yards per catch. Had 30 catches for 802 yards and 10 touchdowns. Sterling is an incredibly quick wideout, who can work defensive backs on the outside or inside and make great receptions. He also has great hands and runs his routes to perfection.

Do you actually believe he had committable offers to Arkansas and Oregon because they lap Pitt multiple times in NIL.

If you think Pitt can compete with the “big boys” for OLinemen, then you are dumber than cashisking884 and his loco hombre, Las Panteras.

Pitt has a new staff coming off a 3-9 season and all of a sudden Pitt’s suppose to haul in high 3 Star and 4 Star players…. Delusional…

No they’re not, dummy. Where did you go to school, Penn State?

Landing a few top notch players, does not mean Pitt can compete top to bottom with the “big boys”, year in and year out. With NIL and the portal it’s even tougher

Try and analyze things and think instead of trying to push an agenda… Get lost…

Can Pitt compete with the big boys are not? Also, Pitt is not beating Oregon for a recruit that Oregon wants

Oregon can give more money to a position group than Pitt can give to the whole team.

Can Pitt compete with the big boys are not? I just answered that question dumbass. You clearly don’t comprehend.

I’ll say it again. Not top to bottom, year in and year out. You aren’t beating Ohio State for the vast majority of players.

There are other factors involved besides the money. There is distance from home, a chance to play early, relationships with the staff.

Quit trolling and get a life, moron.

It is about money and will always be about money. Oregon has a lot and if they want a recruit Pitt is not competing unless the recruit is someone Oregon kind of wants or the offer was two years old and uncommittable.

And you know this how??? Once again you don’t know $hit.

If we’re going to speculate, then I’ll do the same: Maybe the kid and his family don’t need the money? Right? Maybe the kid doesn’t want to go across country to go to school? Maybe he feels he can go to Pitt, get on the field faster, put up big numbers, and then transfer and make more money?

Maybe his grandma won the lottery and told him that she would give him 10 million dollars if he went to Pitt? It can happen!

SHEESH!

You're right money doesn't matter for this one recruit when it matters for everyone else, hell even the son of an NBA player went to Texas because they offered the biggest bag of cash. NIL determines who you can get in 2024, you can believe the kid chose Pitt over Oregon for whatever reason makes you happy.

There will always be a few stragglers kicking and screaming, throwing a tantrum....as the new world of CFB sets in around us.

Temple, BC, Buffalo, FAU, WOFFORD, Western Carolina, Georgia State

Just a few of the names ( repetitive i might add) we won recruits over.

Im not ripping Pitt. I get it. i am merely enjoying those remaining few going ballistic when these other offers are posted and not everyone is thrilled.

Some get excited.....diamonds in the rough.....2 star from Georgia better than a 3 star WPA kid....... PN knows how to develop players......

I see these other offers and then go back to sleep .

This is a very neutral comment, so it shouldn't upset anyone on either side of the optimist/pessimist spectrum, but a good way to determine which level of offers are committable is to look at the visits.

If a kid has Florida, Michigan, and USC listed as offers but his officials are Pitt, Purdue, Boston College, Indiana, and
Maryland... well, it's not difficult to discern which schools would actually take him.

An official doesn't 100% translate to being a take, as we see kids all the time who want to commit to Pitt but are slow-played after their official, but it's a decent gage.

You’re not here out of concern for the Pitt recruiting class, so why are you here? Answer the question.

Everyone has this problem outside of a handful of schools. The projection is below the top tier, which we rarely ever get even when they're local. And local OL talent hasn't been very good since Duzz got here, even counting the guys who went elsewhere.

The problem wasn't OL recruiting, it was what the offense wanted them to do.
It's been a complaint on here for years. We'll see if it was finally addressed.

Oh Brother Oops GIF by Offline Granny!

I can't believe there is so much bickering over kids who haven't even played their senior season of ball yet. On offense particularly these new coaches know what type of players for their system. These fast quick twitch guys are gonna eat well. Think Diontae Johnson with better hands hopefully 🤪. Also Johnson went to Toledo so these shorter guys usually get overlooked because of size mostly. Let's see what this thing looks like and just enjoy the fact that Pitt football is almost back! The off-season is particularly boring this year.

The problem wasn't OL recruiting, it was what the offense wanted them to do.

Then one would expect more individual OL to be getting into the NFL, even if the OL as a whole performed poorly due to what was being asked of the group at a college level.

so these shorter guys usually get overlooked because of size mostly.

this just isn’t true.

The number one ranked WR on 247 for 2025 is small.

Most small guys get ranked low because they have nothing that justifies them be ranked higher. Which is why the NFL rosters aren’t dominated with short guys.

Most WR recruits, regardless of size, don’t have a bunch of elite skills. Twitch, speed, hands, etc. Of that most, some at least have size. So get something of a ranking.

Most short WR recruits get rated poorly because they have nothing to offer. People think if a guy is short he must be able to make other dudes miss in a phone booth or have blazing speed. But they don’t. They are like a bunch of other recruits, but just small.

When short guys actually due possess big time traits, they get a big time ranking.

What you say is true. However, it must bug you that PSU also cannot recruit someone that Oregon wants and win the battle, because their NIL apparently sucks, too.

I’m not a scout, so I’m not going to pretend I know if film lies or not.

And I’m not really commenting on any particular player, only the logic that short guys are discriminated against in the rankings because they are short.

That’s simply not true. They are discriminated against because the vast majority of them suck. Which is why they don’t dominate college rosters. And why they don’t go on to dominate NFL rosters.

Yeah, the FCS, D3, etc. are loaded with guys who could have played in the FBS if they were three inches taller or 25 pounds heavier. But they're not those things, and that's why they're where they're at.

There are absolutely 5'10" inner-city basketball players who are "better" than 6'5" NBA guys. They have better handle; they're stickier defenders; they can shoot better; etc. But being better is not synonymous with being more effective. Put them both up against a team whose shortest guy is 6'6" and we'll see who has more success. The 5'10" dude is going to have trouble getting a clean shot off, while the guy he is watching on defense is just going to shoot right over how no matter how sticky he is.

Obviously there are degrees to all of this. Like if a 5'9" receiver is just SO skilled, he probably will have success. But if he has the same speed, agility, etc. as a guy who is 6'2", obviously the smart money is on the latter guy being better, and he'll be rated higher... rightfully so.

Right. It matters on the margins of rankings when the shorter guy actually has an elite skill set. Then he probably does get knocked a little compared to the taller guy with a similar skill set.

247 WR rankings of short WRs:

1
7
17
23
30
33
37

If anything, short WRs are overvalued in recruiting rankings. They don’t hit nearly at this rate as being projected.
