I was surprised to see that someone posted that he may be leaving. Any background on why?

Other than his recruiting projections, there really hasn't been much tangible information for the public to know where he ranks in his development against his young OL peers at Pitt. Hopefully, it works to his best interest, if there is any truth to the rumor.

I thought this guy was supposed to be one of the future really good OL guys?
If fact if you look back in the postings some of the free board "guru's" posting from
drug and alcohol rehab centers had projected Paulina on an OL that looked really good???

If I remember correctly, there was some talk during the off season last year that Paulina was considering leaving football.

Interesting that I vaguely remember there being some rumors about him being unsure or not completely into playing football in college back when he was a HS commit. Those rumors were shot down at the time, but maybe had some truth behind them.
Seemed like he could've been a pretty good one, but better to call it quits if your heart is not into it.

I thought that was a photo(not the one of Paulina copied above my reply, but of Ocasek that you also posted) of Jarvis Cocker(PULP) 10-20 years in the future. Speaking of The Cars, I am just getting into Vinyl and bought the MFLS Version for their ST, 'Candy-O' & 'Shake It Up'(MFSL still has not released 'Panorama', but hoping for the near future. I will not be getting a good entry level Turntable(Pro-Ject Debut Carbon or Rega 3 most likely) until the end of this year, but reviews of the MFSL versions of these albums are awesome. Beautiful Cover Packaging. I also bought the SACD for The Cars-ST(with Redbook Layer, so I can play the CD for now until getting a multi Hi-Def Physical Media Player), and the SACD also gets high marks. MFSL sells 'Candy-O' & 'Shake It Up' on Gold CD, that sound great, and got on sale, but figure those albums will get an SACD release also soon.

Also bought the SACD by MFSL for 'Grace' by Jeff Buckley(one of my favorite albums from the 1990s) with 20% off at the time. The Vinyl at 45rpm speed by MFSL is very expensive though at $55, but is mastered by Kevin Gray(one of the best music engineers in the business). Most of the favorite part of my music collection is from the 1990s, but unfortunately, almost all of the CDs I own were mastered as part of the Loudness Wars with minimal Dynamic Range and Brickwalled to Death. Especially, my favorite album of all time, 'OK Computer'-Radiohead, but really most albums on CD released since the mid 1990s have been Brickwalled with bad Dynamic Range(although some exceptions). So I am interested in getting into some Vinyl with Reissues done with better Mastering(and the artwork as a total package) when available for my favorite albums, or in the rare case the reissue of an album in Analog, like was done for a few early Joe Jackson albums(also Mastered by Kevin Gray, and although not AAA, he also Mastered the 'Purple Rain' reissue from 5-6 years ago-another top Music Engineer, Bernie Grundman Mastered the '1999' Reissue, but he also Mastered the original Vinyl release).

Sorry to get off topic, but the photo of Ric Ocasek, reminded me how I really got back into 'The Cars' in 2016(also bought the 2016 Elektra CD Box set, although not great DR #s, I bought it prior to getting the MFLS versions, and wanted a reissue of the other 3 Cars albums on CD and these CDs had slightly better DR #s compared to the prior CD Releases in the Rhino Box Set(all albums but did not have 'Door to Door'), although MFLS also just released 'Heartbeat City' on SACD & Vinyl, it is too pop sounding for me to lay out the extra money until it goes on sale(the online sites offer 20% off every few months).

OK Computer may be my favorite album of all time too. It's an unbelievably brilliant piece of work.

Oddly, I too went through a Cars phase last year. I don't know why and it did not last but for a few weeks there I was really into that band.

They're highly underrated among bands from that era.

It took 19 years, but Radiohead finally made a great album again last year with 'A Moon Shaped Pool', although 'In Rainbows' was solid. The other albums since 'Kid A' had 3-5 good/great songs, but not great albums-IMO. I bought 'OK Computer' in a Best Buy in Mission Viejo the day it was released on July 1st 1997(a great year for music with 'Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space'-Spiritualized, 'Urban Hymns'-The Verve, 'Attack of the Gray Lantern'-Mansun, 'Word Gets Around'-Stereophonics, 'Drawn to the Deep End'-Gene, 'ST'-Portishead, 'Young Team'-Mogwai, 'In It for the Money'-Supergrass, 'Whiplash'-James, 'Tellin Stories'-The Charlatans and awesome comeback album 'Evergreen'-Echo & the Bunnymen to name a few, as I remember spending a lot of money that year(actually between 1993-1998) on CDs).

Then there was the Cocaine fueled disaster of an album, 'Be Here Now' by OASIS after major pre-release hype all Summer of 1997 that only had 3-4 good songs on it. Also OASIS put out some of the worst Dynamic Range CDs in my collection(What's The Story Morning Glory has a DR Average of 5!-what crap sound and the Deluxe Edition of that album and 'Definitely, Maybe' from a few years ago did not even get Remastered to improve that mess of a sound).

Anyways, on first listen, 'OK Computer' blew me away and was in my car CD Player at least 5 days per week for the next year, as never got sick of it, as multiple listens were rewarded to reveal new layers and my favorite song on that album would constantly change the first 2 years, and to me that is what makes a great album. When I first heard the opening song, 'Airbag', I thought the album was delivered from Outer Space. Very emotional album, but 'Kid A' left me feeling 'Cold' as it was not very emotional with electronic blips and beeps that Yorke went on to utilize on B-Sides from that album, 'Amnesiac' & Hail to the Thief' and his Solo album, 'The Eraser'. For those 3 albums, I could live with just the songs on the 2-CD Best of release, with a few other songs not on that compilation.

He's my nephew. He's not coming back, heart wasn't into it anymore.

Been there, bro. He made the right decision.
My son's been playing hockey since he was 4 year round. Recruited by all DI's. Last year, as a junior, named top defenseman in California.
College hockey. Six nights a week on the ice, plus weight training (dry land) plus living in hockey dorm plus a mere two weeks off in the summer. So much for the college experience.
He's going to Columbia. Playing Club and will be loving it.
Your nephew has his head on straight. Props to him.

Agree. If that is really his nephew, nothing wrong with his choice. And if he decides to quit playing ball and stay at Pitt, nothing wrong with that. Maybe he'll just go somewhere else, but he can stay here at a great academic university.

is that the dude from the Cars? Good for him. musicians get so much squirrel it's ridiculous... if only I could sing, or play an instrument, I'd have gone down this road..

Its great the kid is doing what he wants but "vetting" recruits is an important part of the recruiting "vetting" process.

To bad we lose a OL that the staff worked hard to secure!

Back to work on this one!

Programs lose enough recruits/players thru discipline, academic, performance issues. Tough to lose on who becomes disinterested in football!

Money talks. And even if not "gold diggers" most women (even if only subconsciously) want financial security--a subset of their biological imperative of having a mate who is protective of them and potential children--a form of the natural nesting urge.

I get the money thing but musicians pull more wool than even actors and athletes.. I mean they get the best of the best. athletes and actors seem to get the really hot models / actresses which is great for the most part in the looks dept but that group seems high/stuck up on themselves.. Musicians get the looks and the personality. The girls that are sick hot but not the uppity actress/model types that have a stick up their ass, nose in the air. Good for them..

No dis was intended of the Cars or Ocasek (other than his freaky look...which certainly must have worked for him! ). I'm a big fan.

EDIT...the groups iconic work sort of speaks for itself. If you like the Cars more than casually but not enough to know beyond the usual stuff, Ocasek's solo material during and after their prime years is worth a listen (and often available in the used CD cheap bins). His early ones may as well be Cars albums, similar songs and styles and often had band members playing on them. But an interesting one is late 90s "Troubilizing" CD, which he made with Billy Corgan, so it has a cool (I think) morph of Cars and Smashing Pumpkins (better than the latter IMO, as I quickly tire of Corgan's voice). And if you like Weezer, a good bit if their stuff was produced by RO. Forgot to add the Cars released a come back CD about 3 ? Years back, and it's pretty good.

No, he will get to finish the semester that is currently under way. Then will be on his own dime.
While he may have been cleared to continue, I believe Paulina missed quite a bit of time his senior year and freshman year with concussion issues.

I don't blame sny kid with concussions from getting on with his life's work.
