Last year, they started 4 freshmen and a junior and went 6-12 in the Big Ten including a couple nice wins. This year, they should contend for an NCAA bid. Well, they better or Chambers is gone.

Penn State is in Year 2 of a complete rebuild while we are in Year 1. If we can have the same type of season this year as they had last year with their team of Philly freshmen, then we'd all be excited for the future.

The main difference between the 2 programs is that Penn State has 3 Top 100 players who are now sophomores. That was the best class in school history. Their Carr is ahead of our Carr and their Stevens is ahead of our Stevenson. A massive difference in the post though as Mike Watkins is a legitimate P5 big man whereas Pitt does not have a legitimate NEC big man at this point.

Chambers is in year 6 right? Their massive rebuild was their own doing. Not totally comparable situations although I agree from a progress standpoint although I don't think we win as many games this year. Pitt recruiting needs to improve.

Yeah but their freshman class had some pretty highly regarded kids, right?

Not totally comparable but if you wipe away the past and look at last season's PSU vs this year's Pitt, its pretty close except that PSU's recruits are more talented

Chambers managed to get those two kids from Philly, which made some Pitt fans go bonkers thinking Chambers was going to have the Nits in the final four soon. Their program is much more settled than Pitt's for now. But still not good.

If those kids pick Pitt, Jamie is still here.

How ironic is it that a McDonald’s All-American was the downfall of this program? If we do not land Khem Birch, then we have a good 4 year player in Bond and are still getting guys out of Philly.

Those kids didn't pick Pitt, because Jamie made Pitt a dirty word in Philly. His handling of the Jaylen Bond situation probably hurt us for a long time there.

I honestly don't think that cost us 1 recruit. These kids played for Brad Wanamaker's HS. I think they knew him. These are inner city Philly kids. Bond was from Plymouth Whitemarsh which may have well been on another planet.

I was thinking the other day that Birch seemed to start the downfall of the program. His recruitment seemed to ruin Dixon's recruiting from that point on. His personality seemed to destroy team chemistry. His departure, followed by quick exits by Adams and Gilbert, really messed up class balance for big men.

Barnes and Birch, the new killer Bs.

Chambers, whom I really can't stand...LOL, sorry for the bias is from Philly and has
connections there. PSU never got top kids from Philly, but Chambers appears to be
able to do that. What he has there now, based on recent recruiting is a pretty strong
Big 10 team that should make some noise in the conference this year.
They will be heavy favorites against us, as they should be, but who knows. Players
like Stevenson and Frame are physical enough to not be afraid going against them.
Man would I like to see an upset! One ray of sunshine, IMO is we've improved our
play each of the three games. If we can do it again, and it has to be a very big leap
forward....well? OK, OK, back to reality LOL

Hate to say it, but those kids probably didn't pick Pitt because Jamie was still here.

I think that was Chamber's 5th class. Let's see what Stalling's 5th class looks like. If there is one.

Those kids didn't pick Pitt because we don't play dirty and their parents are each $40k richer because of their sons basketball abilities.

And that is no secret if you live around Philly. Carr wanted to go to Temple.

Then we should play dirty. So tired of sucking in the wins and losses column but the moral victory of "at least we did things the right way".

Depends on your moral compass. I'm proud of Pitt for the stance they take. There's no right way to do something wrong.

Can you just explain to me what the harm is of say paying recruits to come here? Or taking care of them a little extra when they are here??

We should never hide sexual assault, or buy prostitutes or anything like that. But I simply can't understand how you guys take so much pride in being "completey clean" even though I'm sure we aren't and even if we are so what?

I just don't get how that is sooooo morally wrong.

Did you enjoy Pitt hoops when we had Charles Smith, Demetrius Gore, and Jerome Lane? I know I loved it and yet I am not naive enough to believe that we waltzed into Bridgeport, Connecticut and said, "Charles we would like you to come to Pitt" and he said, "OK, I will". Same with Gore and Lane. These were top recruits who out of no where selected Pitt.

You can defend the "right way" which is admirable, but it leads to an average team. If you want more, you need boosters and a guy like Calipari, who can make great use of the boosters money. I enjoyed the state of the team under Jamie, except for the last 4 years or so. That said, Jamie's lack of recruiting proved that at a palce like Pitt, that so called, "right way" model is just not sustainable.

I would hope that as Stallings sees the end approaches and has nothing to lose he goes the Nick Nolte from Blue Chips route.

My moral compass says you should help others who are in need. If you are recruiting a player whose family is struggling to pay the bills, then I would not have one ounce of guilt if we landed the kid by giving his family money to pay the bills or provided a parent a job through a booster.
