If he is requiring them to play a style which they are not athletically capable of doing, how is that their fault? They cannot suddenly become more athletic. Aren't coaches supposed to put their players in positions to be successful, not put them in situations which they are not capable of handling?

He's saying they're not athletic enough to compete against the level of competition SJU plays in. Style of play doesn't factor in.

He's also saying he had to take what he could get to fill out a roster after he was hired, basically saying he'd never have recruited these players in a normal full recruiting cycle.

Narduzzi had the best season in 4 decades. Narduzzi is a medicore coach. Narduzzi was very fortunate for the Covid year or else it wouldn't have happened. All can be true.

Pitt is also not in position to be a major player in college football. They don't have the necessary financial support. That's not something that is magically going to change.

Clemson wasnt Clemson that year. They didnt beat anybody. I dont care what their ranking was or that they won 9 regular season games. Narduzzi was insanely lucky that year. That's undeniable. Had Covid not happened, we would have went 7-5. Wuhan made him a lot of money

Clemson lost to national champ UGA by 7, in double OT to NC State, and Pitt. They were more Clemson than they've been the last 2 years.

2021 Clemson also finished 85th in scoring, after finishing 4th in scoring each of the 3 years preceding. And that number would have looked a lot worse if you take away a couple of blowouts against patsies. It’s a fact that Clemson was down considerably that year, primarily due to severe QB and offensive struggles, all anyone had to do to see that was watch one of their games. It’s also a fact that if Pickett (and Whipple--as we know Pickett made his return conditional on Whpple being retained) had left the year before, 2021 would never have been possible.

But--it's also disingenuous to deny Narduzzi his due credit for his team's success that season. Every program and team every season has it's "ifs and buts" that impact successes and failures and the bottom line is Narduzzi delivered the best season at Pitt since the glory days. Would have been even better if he hadn't inexcusably $hit the bed to the #9 team in the MAC that season and/or if Pickett had played in the bowl game, but it was still a great year, and nobody needs to go out of their way to try to put an asterisk on it.

When a team fails, it's on the head coach. When it succeeds, it's on the head coach. That's the way it has always been and will always be.
