Article Pitt adds a transfer quarterback

Quick flick of wrist in red zone. Tight ends should be foaming at the mouth in anticipation.

His big offers were from Boise State, Georgia, Washington, Oregon State and ASU. He was rated 9th best pro style QB in 2018 and was a 4 star on some services.----By the way in the one game he played against USC and threw for 292 yards it was reported he hurt his throwing shoulder on the 3rd play of that game. If Georgia wanted him I think Pitt can afford to roll the dice on this guy.
Better yet, Chris Peterson of Washington recruited him. That's good enough for me. More than good enough. Welcome.

I have stated before that I don't much care for Whipple's offense , but to be fair you have to give him some time. It is imperative that he have good recruits that fit, and also the offense should attract good Qb's and receivers. I am sure I am stating the obvious , the style of offense( and Whipple) was very key in getting a very good prospect in this case.

Looks to have a quick, compact release. Lots more to playing QB at the P5 college level, but having solid arm talent is definitely an important asset.

Yellen is a nice pickup and I like it even better than adding a QB in this class based on what was out there.

Did he even visit?

Trey Anderson was apparently integral in his hunt for a landing spot and helped to bridge the relationship to Pitt. He also said his parents are big Steelers fans and his family had visited Pittsburgh to see a game, so he is familiar with the city.

Maybe I worry too much but I suspected that our late push for a QB could be a result of that possibility but the pickup of the new Qb won’t make the 2020 Qb situation any better if Patti left after spring ball or before. If this happens and I have heard nothing about a Patti transfer then we would be left with only two schollie QBs ( and two good ones in KP and Beville ) . That is a little too close for comfort. In any event at least the staff is being very proactive for the QB position after KP graduates with a lot of potential at the position.
It might have more to do with the 5 win season. When Browne crapped the bed he didn't have anything behind him. I think he learned from that mistake. Of Beville, Yellen, and Patti - you increase your chances of having one pan out and at the very least solid arms as a backup

No he did not visit. I'm not sure what the restrictions on visits are but I read somewhere that he couldn't visit based on his late decision to enter the transfer portal. Maybe someone who posts here can give us the details on visit restrictions.

Arizona State QB Joey Yellen is transferring to Pitt, Panther-Lair.com has learned.

According to my coach buddy at ASU....he is a good kid and can really throw the ball.

According to my coach buddy from ASU...he is really good kid with a good arm. He thinks he’s going to be really good.

Seems like a great get for Narduzzi, 3- stars on 2 sites, #63 in the nation on another. But I'll gladly take a freshman that steps in against USC and puts up a solid performance (one of the best performances against USC all year with virtually no run game at 2.2 ypc).

He said he has to cut back interceptions, too.
