Obviously, playing every year or not playing at all are the two extremes. I think the objective based on how everything evolved is making sure every generation of students the has the opportunity to experience the rivalry. Realistically, spread out a 4 game series, 2 home and 2 away over an entire decade. Discuss............................

If we could manage to schedule 4 with PSU 2/2 and 4 with WVU 2/2 over 10 years, one or the other not both in a single season, I'd be satisfied. No need to play either every year and the 2 years without I'd like to see other BIG or B12 teams.

If the college football landscape doesn't change much (that a huge if), I doubt Pitt and PSU play for a decade or more after this series ends. Pitt and ND will only meet in games set by the ACC agreement. Best chance for a regular for is WVU, who may like a game with limited travel.
I fully expect some type of upheaval in the sport within the next few years. Too much money up for grabs. Greed will hurt the golden goose.

This would be absolutely ideal IMO. Even though the majority of PSU fans are absolute scumbags, this game brings a high level of excitement and focus back to Pennsylvania. By not playing these games against regional P5 opponents, the focus of CFB continues to travel south, outside of a very few games (Ohio State/Michigan).

If any of PSU, PITT, of WVU think by not playing each other they are somehow only hurting the others, that school is incredibly short-sighted. What happens if PSU goes 8-4 this year after being incredibly hyped for what should be a great year? I highly doubt they match their offensive numbers from last year and this year with the losses they'll have following this season (Barkley, Gesicki, etc). WVU has already fallen off the radar in the east coast market.

What is that song from the 90's??? "It takes two...." Why are you always obsessed on this topic? You have 47 posts on this site, and I am guessing 47 of them involve this topic? Don't you care about anything else?

West Virginia --- they are willing partners and it does not take much to get the Competitive Hatred Flowing against the nearby-neighbors.

penn state fans are sad, dulusional folks who are way-worse than all the stereotypes of "Football Crazed SEC southern fans" --- they pay their coach over 6 mil a year after one decent season because so many of them pitifully live only vicariously through Joe Paterno built football.... pitiful.

I've fallen on deaf-ears with this but I think PITT is only ascending, and I'm so OVER the delusional and truly-sad penn state football people. Let's play WVU again every single year in the 'Backyard Brawl'.

I honestly dont care if we play them or WVU. They are a cesspool that is still smug and condescending. Its really not worth it to me, they should not be playing football.

First of all.....I have no interest in what is good for Pennsylvania. I only care about Pitt football (in this discussion )

Second.......interest in CFB won't continue to move south if pitt elevates their program. Our footprint doesn't reach much outside of WPA but who cares? Never did in the past and we were nationally recognized.

We have a path to an ACC championship as well as the CFB playoff. We can get to both without PSU.

I think many posters here don't realize that we need PSU far less today than we did a few years ago.

This is one of those "Guess what the Lair said" threads that will be referenced on BWI.

Regardless of the OP's true intentions, it's not worth discussing over and over. PSU doesn't want to bother with Pitt because it's a trap game. Last year sealed the deal because it cost them a playoff spot. It's really that simple so enjoy it while it lasts or until they "need" Pitt again.

WVU and Pitt have such great rivalries in their own conferences they don't need each other!!!!You guys do realize Pitt and WVU are playing each other in a four game series 2022-25.Believe it or not WVU managed to get both Pitt and Psu on their schedule in 2023-4.Full stadiums make for a fun atmosphere for both teams!

77 I just saw your comment about PSU not wanting to play Pitt because it was a trap game? When your an underdog and you lose it's not a trap game,it's the best team winning that game.Pitt had the better team last year when that game was played, you were supposed to win and you did.I don't think Psu is affraid of trap games or they wouldn't of scheduled WVU because we'll be underdogs in those games.

Home and Home ups
Home and Home ccwv
Home and Home nd

Rinse, wash, repeat.

WVU has already fallen off the radar in the east coast market.
So this WVU toolbag in the media tweeted out "Pitt announced Max Browne as starter and will still finish 7-5 or 8-4". Then when he got backlash, he bragged back "WVU will finish 10-3".

And that's what they did last year. But really, did anyone care? They lost to literally all the only real good teams on their schedule, including getting thrashed both in their bowl game and to OU at home.

I mean idk, sure WVU people can brag about the double digit wins and the high teens/20's number next to their name, but at the end of the day, what was so memorable about that season? Sure we sucked to end the year in our bowl game, but so did they, and at least we had 2 very significant/memorable W's.

These things vary from year to year though. Their game against VT should be fun. I feel like right now we're in hate PSU mode and not really caring about the hoopies, but once we start playing them again...

8771 the key to WVUs season was they didn't get upset by anyone. They won the games they were supposed to win. They only beat two 9-4 teams but down here we'll take 10-3 especially when the QB was average at best.Tough opener next week with your Va Tech for the Mounties.

Well true, play the hand you're dealt and Pitt had a really tough schedule last year which won't always be the case of course. It sucks how winnable the UNC, VT and OK St games were last year, but those were all good teams. And we saw how bad of a matchup Miami was for us both.

Anyway I could see WVU's Big 12 schedule being tougher than Pitt's ACC slate this year, though the back to back weeks of PSU and "your" Ok St are killer.
