Pitt/Dukes not looking good

Capel was mentored in the Krzyzewski school of scheduling. The ideal: Never play a game in an opponent's gym unless you are compelled to do so (ACC games and B1G Challenge). All other away games should be at neutral venues.
So that excuses completely ignoring the school that currently employs him, history and traditions?

Got it.

Who cares? They’re a top 5-8 program now and have been ranked in the top 10 under JF multiple years at the end of the season.

If Narduzzi had their success he would’ve either left for a better job or be paid like 18 million by us considering how we overpay him now.

You’re clearly wearing blue and gold glasses because they are a top 8 program at worst rn and with history probably top 10. You’re just way off, again.
They had a nice 4 year run. Lets see if that continues. Historically, probably around 20 or so.

I totally understand the economics of PSU Fb vs Pitt bb , but sometimes things are more than just dollars and cents . Bottom line PSU should play Pitt in Fb every yr and Pitt bb should play Duquesne every yr .

I think they should have a "pre-season" yearly city basketball exhibition night. Invite Pitt, Duquesne, RMU, Penn State, whomever. They play each team for a pre-determined time, like a 15 minute running clock, if you get called for a foul on a shot, you have to sub out and cant come back in for a penalty time, like 30 seconds and the scoring team gets possession of the ball again so no foul shots. Once a game is done, you roll right into the next game, no warm ups, except before all games.

Give the city a chance to see all the new and old players and a fun night of basketball.

A team like Pitt might decide to play some of it's lower level players against a team like RMU, etc. The scores and records would mean nothing. Good chance for all players to get to play and coaches to evaluate some players and line ups before the season. Good chance for people to get to watch some talented basketball and get hyped up for their team in a friendly fun environment.

Duquesne wants a guaranteed check to come play at the Pete that's more than Pitt is willing to pay them. The End.
This is just not even remotely accurate. They offered to come to the Pete for free this year and no tickets and Pitt turned it down. It’s ridiculous Pitt won’t play duquesne and they should do it at PPG to get the “neutral site” win that Jamie always touted on his schedules.

Instead we’ll schedule some team, pay them 90 grand and possibly still lose. It’s dumb
In the PG article yesterday, Dambrot said Duquesne would be more open to playing every year at Pitt, if they got paid for it ...... the implication being pretty clear.

Maybe they should play one year at the Pete and the next at PPG, etc.

I would not suggest it as an excuse, but as something to which you might look forward as long as Capel is coach. If you look at Duke's schedules over the last decade, aside from ACC contests and ACC-Big Ten Challenge games, they have played only two games at an opponent's home gym. In 2010, they played a game at Oregon and a game at UNCG. Since then, the closest things to true away games which they have played were at UNLV and Portland State, and while the venues were in Las Vegas and Portland, they were not the schools' home gyms. Somehow, Duke also manages to get most of its away ACC-Big Ten Challenge games played at neutral sites. During this ten year stretch, they have not had a home & home series with anyone, much less a P6 program although they did play St John's at MSG, but that seems more a a neutral site for Duke than not, IMO. I wouldn't be shocked if Capel isn't trying to replicate this sort of scheduling. In recent years, WVU is the only true away game with a P6 school of which I am aware. I'm not trying to either excuse or justify anything. Just noting what has taken place in the past.

They’re top 8 in wins all time if you take out Yale and Harvard. You’re clearly not looking at this rationally. What a surprise
I am not sure that going by all-time wins helps your argument. Going only by current FBS teams, PSU is 8th and Pitt is 21st.

My point is that from a national football perspective, Pitt and PSU arent THAT dissimilar. Yes, PSU is better, no doubt but they arent a blue blood. And they gladly play Pitt-like programs home and home.

They need to figure it out and get a deal done... the “City Game” ought to happen on a yearly basis! Just my opinion.
It should happen every year for the simple fact that, if not, it would just be replaced with a game against some nondescript school no one knows of/cares of/has any interest in.

Doesn’t matter how low the interest in Duquesne among Pitt fans, or vice versa, it still has to be better than the very probable alternative. Same with RMU.

It amazes me that some on this board just don't get it. Absolutely no legitimate reason (IMO) not to.
