Pitt is 2-2 right where I figured they'd be - tough loses but this team is not there yet

aside from the amusing meltdowns on this board and the secular desires for instant gratification and a national title this year this team comes to play and will be in every game this year except for Clemson

Narduzzi is a very good coach. He has 15 games under his belt as a head coach and a wining record at this point and I believe he will finish no worse that 7-5 and probably 8-4.

This Pitt team has character but not a lot of talent. The defense is playing ok and did well on the road against 2 teams who will probably finish in the top 30.

I like Canada as well. He scores a lot of points with no passing game this year, QB or receivers worth noting. The defense has just 2 play makers. But the unit has a lot of grit but not the stamina or talent to close out against top 30 talent yet.

If this team wins 8 like I think they will that would exceed my expectations for the players and the staff.

That was two tough road loses that we could have won but were not favored to and it kind of went that way. Sad to see it but we have a ways to go.

Hail to Pitt

Its kinda weird because this team is much worse than I thought, talent-wise but they could easily be 4-0. I actually think Narduzzi is doing a good job and getting the most out of this team but they have a low ceiling and they seem to hit the wall against teams with better players.

We are one terrible pass away from being 0-3, beaten by 3 teams that aren't ranked. That's my reply to anyone that says we could easily be 4-0.

I don't count fcs scrimmages in case you are wondering about my 0-3 comment.

I was disappointed with yesterdays loss more than the loss against OSU, but we were in both games. We clearly are not a complete team yet, and we have some holes that need to be filled with recruiting, but I think it is obvious that the attitude of the team has changed. The play calling wasn't perfect, but the coaches were also trying to gameplay around those same holes.

Before the season started, 8-4 with the four losses being to 4 out of the following 5 seemed to be reasonable: PSU, OSU, UNC, Clemson and Miami. Im not sure why all of the sudden this is no longer a reasonable expectation.

It is kind of funny I expected them to be 2-2 at this point as well and they have been close games. But because the d looks so bad I am worried they will get 7 wins where I picked them to go 8-4

Pretty much if Pitt would have lost both games by 10-15 points, you all would feel more comfortable about the rest of the season because the outcomes would have been closer to what you predicted before the season started.

What?

There has been a lot of widespread panic on this board, so it's refreshing to see a reasonable thread. 2-2 at the end of Sept. is about what most Pitt fans (including myself) expected with their schedule. Going 6-2 down the stretch would be great, but there is work to do to get to that point. The sky isn't falling....that said, have to get a win against Marshall Saturday!

I think it is a tad ahead of where I thought they would be on Opening Day earlier, but now I want to see improvement as the season move forward and hope they finish better than last year when they lost to UNC, Miami, and ND, and got beat badly by Navy!

The Test now is beating Marshall, Georgia Tech another Navy Type Offense, and Pass happy Virginia that had big win against Central Michigan and go to 5-2 with an Open Break. badly need time to get the Defense System right or better???? A 4-3 would be a big worry! They are Toss Up Games!

Then there is ACC Tough Road To Hoe against VT at Pitt, and then go to Miami and Clemson, making them 5-5 or 6-2? These are Toss up Loss Games right now, except Miami and Clemson maybe just Losses?

Finally, have to end with a big finish DUKE & CUSE, so 6-6, 7-5 or 8-4? Not seeing 9-3 anymore!

Wow most of you guys are totally oblivious. We have a quarterback who can't throw and a pass defense which is 1 of the worst in college football and we are getting very little pressure on the opposing QB.

If this team ends up winning 6 games it'll be a modern miracle.

I think I know what he's saying.

If you lose just because the other team simply played better, it's one thing.
But the way Pitt has lost....and truth be told how they held on to beat psu....is very discouraging.
I mean, do you feel confident that Pitt can hold onto a ten point fourth quarter lead right now?

What i'm saying is before the season started everybody picked them to lose to OkSt and UNC and still finish around 8-4. But now since they lost by 1 possession to each of those opponents...there's no way we now finish 6-6. It would have made them feel better about their prediction of 8-4 if Pitt woud have got their doors blown off by OkSt and UNC......end moron panic logic.

The only standard whereby Pitt fans are guilty of demanding immediate gratification is if they are also fans of the 1908 World Champion Chicago Cubs. I guess in the grand scheme of things, 3 decades is a blink of the eye.

Meanwhile, were a 1 point favorite over Marshall.
Is that confirmed?
I just checked espn and they had nothing listed.
If true, to be only a one point favorite over a mid major that lost at home to Akron by 27 points is surreal. But hey, some people here think our performance the past 2-3 weeks has been ok.

Read the rest of the thread on the pay board--that post title is an error, the OP looked at the wrong lines before they were decided. There is no line right now because of the Marshall QB situation, and according to Sagarin, we should be favored by about 16.

That would make more sense.

The record is not worrisome. Continuing to lose games in ridiculous and historically pathetic ways is.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think the worry is that the last 3 games we have seen some very, very questionable coaching decisions and head scratchers. Those make it harder to be convinced we are just waiting on better players and when they get here, they will get great coaching and the wins will come. There is still very much some doubt the coaching is going to be really good and the talent isn't coming in enough to cover for the coaching only being ok.

I think this is the part that hurts the worst.

Pitt is going to lose games. We aren't Bama, FSU, tOSU, etc. And I'm fine with that.

But it is the way we lose that kills me the most. And it isn't just 1 or 2 times. It seems to happen every year. Losing that Cincy game in 2009. Losing to WVU on a 50 yard filed goal in 2009. Blowing a 14 pt 4th quarter lead against NC St in 2009. Blowing a 21 pt lead late in the 3rd quarter to Iowa in 2011. Losing to Iowa on a 50 yard FG last year. Almost beating #1 ND my missing a very makeable FG in OT in 2013. Bowl game meltdown against Houston. This game.

ESPN tweeted a stat that said Pitt has the second most losses by 3 pts or fewer since 2009 (14), only behind Iowa (16).

I know there have been games we've pulled out and won, but being on the losing end seems to happen more often than not.

That said. I still have fully faith in this team and will be there on Saturday night.

HTP!
