The 2 boys from Valencia hooked up in the 78th minute for a much-needed need win over a good Columbia squad (#70 RPI) who may win the Ivy League, ehich which is a decent soccer league.

Pitt now sits at 5-5 and my estimation is that they need to get to 9-7 to get an at-large bid. This has to be their path:

#43 Clemson W
#139 Cleveland State W
@ #16 VT L
#130 Temple W
@ #28 Duke L
@ #74 WVU W
#6 ND W

Basically, they need to take care of business at home against Clemson, and the OOC games and win 1 out of 3 vs VT, Duke, and ND. Its doable

don't think they're ready to beat ND. so either VT and duke. both on the road.

They beat them last year at their place. They did get pummeled up there in an ACCT game but the whole team was injured.

I dont think there's much difference between ND, Duke, and VT. Pitt outplayed UNC at their place and lost in 2OT. Although I don't think they outplayed Louisville, they should have been up 1-0 in the 70th minute had Perez made the PK. At home, if they need it, they need to take care of ND

Clemson is in the bag, but it took until 3 seconds left in the 2nd OT to do it.

It soccer, so they can sit in and counter to keep themselves in the game if need be. I honestly don’t know what type of team they have and style they need to play to beat teams like Vt and ND. With a player like Kizza, they can be dominated for an entire game, but he can get loose for one counter attacking goal and we could win. That said, I was at the Akron game, and Pitt did not need to sit behind the ball. They played with Akron and just didn’t win.

Lost to Cleveland st tonight 4-3

ugh. that's a bad one.

They played with 10 men for most of the match. I watched some of it on TV with no announcers. It was 2-1 Pitt when I turned it on and Pitt only had 10. Even though they were down a man, there's no excuse for giving up 3 more goals.

That loss probably ends our NCAAT hopes. RPI drops to 40. Realistically, we probably need to go 3-2 in the last 5, 4 of which we may be underdogs in. That would put us at 9-8 so we'd aslo probably have to win an ACCT game.

sucks but still good progress from just a couple of years ago.

Great progress, yes, but its a results business. A red card could have costed this team the NCAAT.

This team is mostly freshmen and sophomores so you would expect that next year is when they break through. However, the other ACC teams arent getting any worse so its hard for a team like Pitt to move up.

as long as recruting improves, these OOC losses will slow down and we'll nab a couple of more conference wins. calling it now - national champs in 2021.
