I respect Larry Fitzgerald but he only played at PITT for two seasons. Now Jimbo Covert.
What are we up to 10 retired numbers?

Would never retire the jersey of a guy who played less than 3 years unless he won the heisman or a multiple year all American who was instrumental in Pitt doing something very special.like winning a national chpionship. The honor should be reserved for players who either spent a full 4 years at the school or otherwise accomplished something very special. To require less than this cheapens the honor.Just curious then, what would your criteria be for retiring numbers?
It's s different era for sure but I don't believe the bar should be lowered simply because guys jump early. You want to go pro-well fine. You want to be a legend at your university, then sorry it requires subordinating your personal interests to that of the school and doing something very very special. Retiring numbers should be a rare occurrence.Requiring 4 years for a number to be retired would certainly prevent most current and future P5 stars' numbers from ever being retired. It's a different era today.
I like it. The worst is the lineman who thinks its funny wearing #69. It's not funny13 is the worst jersey number.
The Yankees??? They have so many retired numbers that they'll have to go to triple digits soon....I hate retiring all numbers. This goes for all teams in all sports.
With a roster of 100+ players it just leads to more repeat numbers.
Personally I think having "Hall of Champions" or some sort in the stadium would be far more meaningful. Basically what the Yankees do, but without retiring the number.
How neat would that be at Heinz Field? Put in in the great hall to counter all the steeler crap in there. A nice area dedicated to all the past PITT greats.
I believe that no Yankee can wear a single digit number after Jeter took #2 off the table. The Yankees??? They have so many retired numbers that they'll have to go to triple digits soon....

How many players are on the roster? We always have multiple players wearing the same number, like #4 is our QB and a LB, why is that? Are you saying more than 100 players dress for the games? There are potentially 101 numbers to use if you'd use 0 and 00, even if 10 are retired that's still 91 unique numbers, so I don't get why you need to have duplicates? And I think 0 and 00 are illegal, in football, but not basketball? Why the stupid rules? Who thinks this nonsense up?
Exactly why I hate retiring numbers. The Yankees??? They have so many retired numbers that they'll have to go to triple digits soon....
So long as you don't have two guys with the same number in the game at the same time, you're OK, because . . . oops . . . well, under NORMAL circumstances that's a penalty.
You want to give them back?I respect Larry Fitzgerald but he only played at PITT for two seasons. Now Jimbo Covert.

Fair. I would not go away with retiring numbers altogether though. Even if Pitt were to never retire numbers at all Tony Dorsett would still have to get that honor.Would never retire the jersey of a guy who played less than 3 years unless he won the heisman or a multiple year all American who was instrumental in Pitt doing something very special.like winning a national chpionship. I couldn't disagree more. Bill Fralic was also a two time all American that finished in the top 8 of the Heismann voting.....twice. He is considered one of the top 3 tackles to ever play college football. Fralic is on every all-time, all-century team you can find.Covert should have been before Fralic, actually.

That is so impressive, I don't know if you can actually say there was a better offensive tackle in the history of college football.I couldn't disagree more.
