Pitt should be lobbying for the Citrus and Russell Athletic Bowls

Both bowls are owned by Florida Citrus Sports. With the 2 biggest ACC draws going to NY6 bowls (Clemson and FSU), there is no "no-brainer" for these 2 bowls.

- Louisville and VT at 9-3 and 9-4 will have the best records but both have knocks against them. Louisville lost their CFP chances 2 weeks ago and their Orange Bowl bid yesterday. Bowls hate when teams backslide into their game and prefer teams to "win their way in" because fanbases are more excited and may be more likely to buy tickets. Honestly, with Louisville's demoralized fanbase, I don't know if they sell more tickets to Pitt in these games. Beyond that, they have a big-time home ACC basketball opener with UVa on Dec. 28. Their fans may just stay home and watch Pitino's bunch. Of course, Lamar Jackson may win the Heisman, but will that make up for poor travel.

As for VT, will their fans make 2 December trips? They didn't sell a lot of tickets to the Russell Athletic in 2012 vs Rutgers and aren't a no-brainer here.

That brings Pitt, Miami, GT, and UNC.

UNC is done. GT doesn't travel. Miami is the semi-local team who is intriguing but again, no no-brainer.

Pitt is 8-4 with an electric offense, a defense that gives up a ton of points (which networks love) and a superstar and great storyline in James Conner.

I hope Barnes and Co. are lobbying these 2 bowls. If Pitt landed in the Citrus Bowl, I honestly believe we'd sell 10,000 tickets and I'm not sure VT or Louisville do that.

I would love to play FL in the Citrus Bowl.

The reason I think the RA bowl is a good chance is this:

VT and WVU open the 2017 season against each other... and it is doubtful that VT would want to play them effectively two games in a row. It is also doubtful that VT would want to take two straight trips to Orlando in less than a month (ACC CG and RA Bowl).

I think VT, being the Coastal winner, will get first choice among Tier One and will choose the Belk - where their fans can EASILY travel to and fill the stadium.

I think Louisville will then get the Citrus.

And I think the RA will be very intrigued by a WVU-Pitt matchup and want to make that happen.

I know I posted differently yesterday, but the more I think about it and research it... I think it goes like this:

CFP: Clemson
Orange: FSU

Citrus: Louisville
Taxslayer: Miami
Belk: VT
Sun: Georgia Tech
Pinstripe: UNC
Russell Athletic: Pitt

Independence: NC State
St. Pete: Boston College
Military: Wake Forest

Woah!!!!

I did not realize that VT opens with WVU. Seems like VT would rather forego back to back WVU games and back to back Orlando trips and just head to Charlotte and play a good SEC program

Although Florida Citrus Sports could just place VT in the Citrus and Lou in the RA Bowl. But from a ticket sales standpoint, WVU/Pitt or WVU/Miami outsells WVU/Lou

A bowl game in FL would also help our coaches recruiting efforts in FL if we were to beat a big name team.

Beating a good PAC 12 team in the Sun Bowl would be a great way to finish the year.

But it is in El Paso, not a fun or safe city.

"From our analysis, we discovered that violent crime in El Paso occurs at a rate higher than in most communities of all population sizes in America. The chance that a person will become a victim of a violent crime in El Paso; such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder; is 1 in 251."
