Pitt men’s soccer team in ACC semis tonight at 8pm. ACC network.
You wanna come over? Big game watch at my house. No masks required .ND did not look like it belonged on the same field as Pitt last time. They looked like a JV team compared to Pitt. Lets hope for the same.

The ultimate jinx!
That free kick was an absolute thing of beauty.Pitt actually was on the back foot most of the match, but had the needed skill to capitalize on their chances.
Petkovic’s free kick for the first goal was worthy of Messi. And, like Messi, left-footed. The second goal was as pretty a play as you could draw up. A perfect cross to Noel, who burst between two defenders to get free for a tap-in. The third goal was a bit of luck, off the deflection.
Unfortunately, they came out for the second half and for the first 15 minutes played as poorly as possible. Excellent GK work and poor finishing by ND kept them off the scoreboard. They had another really poor 10 minute spell later, but managed to win.
They won’t beat Clemson unless they play 100% better. Clemson can score. They have the best midfielder I have seen this season and a very good striker.

Hope you are right. Clemson is pretty damn good.Great game. Was flipping back and forth with the draft.
I don't like how undisciplined we were on a few counterattacks -- a few missed markings, some lack of hustle in terms of getting back. ND should have scored at least once more, IMO.
We'll beat Clemson handily, nothing I saw in the first game gave me any anxiety. But I do worry that the team knows offensively it can play with anyone, and therefore it can be lax on a few things defensively and maybe push pace when they don't need to. Feels a bit like the Pens teams of the mid-90s.
Hope you are right. Clemson is pretty damn good.
3-0 at the half
He placed it in the side netting on the short side. Unbelievable.I told my son that's as good of a goal as you will see anywhere. The announcer had a great line. Said he couldn't have walked up to the goal and placed into any better of a spot.
My youngest daughter had a Director at beadling who knows the head coach at Clemson well. We tried to get Clemson to scout her, but weren’t successful. They had no interest. This was before and after she held an offer from Coach Waldrum and Pitt. It’s just really hard to have a school from that distance commit full rides to players from western PA who they can’t watch consistently. Unless you’re a once every few year player, like a Taylor Schram (Penn St), Veronica Latsko (Virginia) or the girl from Brownsville headed to UNC. But I doubt she’s on a full ride either, as I don’t think Coach Dorrance offers them. I could be wrong though.
Not sure if you’d know this, but will Pitt’s new expanded facilities at the Petersen Sports Complex have the sort of look and amenities that Clemson seems to have? Not sure if they had the room before, but they very well might now.My youngest daughter had a Director at beadling who knows the head coach at Clemson well. When she was recruited, literally “victory Heights” was an idea and that idea was being used by the staff to sell recruits. All there was at the time was a map of what was going where. We were hosted in the coaching offices upstairs in the Fieldhouse and it was a real dump of course. But the idea was that the coaches offices were going to be moved to Urbanic. Locker rooms were already there and we toured them, but nothing was discussed about updating them. I’m sure they will be though, if not already are. Weightlifting was being moved there too. Right now it’s been upstairs at Fitzgerald and there’s no AC. His biggest wishlist item was to find another place for turf so that urbanic can be converted to grass. It’s certainly a luxury to coach at a school that has a big enough name that you can be at the top of a recruit’s list without needing to dangle even close to a full ride. That said, I know that many of those southern schools tend to be a bit more generous with non-athletic aid than the PA state schools, too.
New home for soccer, but ask Track and Field about their new home. Clemson should be ashamed of themselves for claiming no funds for olympic sports.
I know they’re supposed to open the new addition to the sports complex imminently - if not already, in the next few weeks. They also appear to be progressing towards trying to build the new lacrosse facility on the OC lot within the next few years...if I were to guess, the lacrosse facility will have a turf field, which would potentially open up Urbanic to be converted to grass. That’s probably about the end of the lifespan of the Urbanic turf anyway. When she was recruited, literally “victory Heights” was an idea and that idea was being used by the staff to sell recruits. I also chuckled when they mentioned the “rugby field” on the broadcast last night. Imagine hosting Big East schools in the mud at Hartwood acres 10 miles from campus. No wonder the programs were so bad.
for my kid, we were worried that waldrum was bringing in too many good local players but not necessarily ACC level players. And then elite national players would be brought in in subsequent years. The previous staff placed no value in local players and let some good ones get away. Coach Brown at WVU was cleaning their clocks locally. Heck, one was just named all Big12 first team. That said, my kid has two former teammates at Pitt now and one started every game as a frosh this fall...so my daughter would have had an opportunity. They are solid people. It wasn’t them. It wasn’t Pitt. It was more timing than anything.
I thought urbanic turf was just replaced?I know they’re supposed to open the new addition to the sports complex imminently - if not already, in the next few weeks. Interesting to hear about the recruiting process from a parent perspective. Waldrum and staff certainly seem to have the personalities to allow them to recruit well (while I’ve never met either, Vidovich certainly strikes me as being a bit less...bubbly). They’ve just had a whole lot of ground to make up, it’s a tough conference to make a dent in, and they’ve got a few neighbors in WVU and PSU who have the track records to fight them in a big way for upper-level local talent.
I’m confused. I know nothing of a lacrosse facility. I thought the volleyball/wrestling Facility was going there? The plan I saw had FFH being torn down for a parking garage, or maybe a field there. I’m not sure if the topography and what the useable space will be in the space left behind by the leveling of FFH.I know they’re supposed to open the new addition to the sports complex imminently - if not already, in the next few weeks. Thanks I’ll check this out! Here’s the latest plan: https://hailtopitt.com/assets/pdf/VH_masterplan.pdf
Basically:
* the new track facility will be where Trees Field used to be and where the sports dome is.
* The new lacrosse facility will be next to the Cost Center on the current OC lot (and I imagine the Cost Center will remain as an Olympic Sports indoor facility).
* The new arena and sports performance complex will be, it appears, dug into the terraced lawn area next to the Pete, and they’ll basically put a new lawn on top of it.
*The current student fitness center in the Pete will be repurposed into an academic center for athletes - presumably after the new student rec center is built on O’Hara.
As for the turf, it was replaced in 2019, but my understanding is that most turf fields tend to last a max of around ten years - and I’m sure that lifespan is less for the performance demands of major college sports facilities. By the time the new lacrosse facility opens in a few years, it’ll probably still be a little young to replace...but if Vidovich and Waldrum really want grass, who knows.

I’m sure the exact ramifications of Covid on the athletic department budget are still largely not fully fleshed out. This is fabulous. Will it still occur under COVID?
