***Pitt v Mississippi State - game thread***

I remember a Pitt team getting their asses handed to them at Wake 2 years ago and then turning around and beating that same team in the ACCT. As concerning as this looks tonight, some of this is just everything going the other team's way.

They were ranked last week…top 25 team on the road.

And Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Mississippi are all ranked ahead of them. They'll be back in the top 25 next week, but still ranked about 7 or 8 in the SEC. So not a top tier SEC team.

To be getting beat by that level of competition by this much is just embarrassing for them. Capel has a lot of work to do now.

I'd be playing Delalic, Amadou Kante, Cummings and Jorge pretty much the rest of the game. Just get them some experience in an environment like this and let the other guys sit and watch.
Nah, Jaland Lowe has 20 points and a couple assists, he's going to lead the charge on a comeback! /s

This is exactly the point, sometimes you need to send a message through the best player on the team. Hell even benching Leggett would've been something or Jeff getting a tech. But no, the game was just allowed to run completely away. Even down 30, I'd sure as hell be getting a technical on that blocked three on Austin in the corner. The player didn't jump, just ran through with his arm up to no call.

What’s most disappointing to me is they’re shown zero fire or grit Mississippi state is running their noses in it and they’ve backed down. I’m not writing off the season as I do think this is just one of those nights The refs have alllowd a football game to break out and Mississippi state is playing out of their minds. Pitt can’t hit the ocean

But man id love to see them fight back with more physical play

That's one of those great fouls where a guy throws a forearm into a dude's head, and then the ref calls a foul and he puts his hands up like "what, me, what did I do?"

This game might help Pitt in the end, it will show them they have to be tougher. MSU is also shooting the lights out. Almost 60% is pretty insane.

I fear the gap in college basketball will only grow. The SEC and Big 10 will buy anyone they want. MSU went out and bought 5 high major transfers this year. Pitt got 2. I fear the big east teams are going to become irrelevant in the coming years. Nova is already going down. Providence is no good. Many of those schools wont have the money to keep up. The ruining of college sports is accelerating.

Hopefully this complete ass whipping wakes them up and has them focus on being more physical.

If a team can play good defense and rebound, it at least gives them a chance against the better teams to even stay close. That's why we're down by 30+. Simple formula that's been proven.

One more thing, I was looking forward to this game since Friday afternoon. It doesn't pay to get excited for any sport if your a Pitt fan. Excitement is always followed by extreme disappointment.

You are never as good as you look in your best game, or as bad as you look in your worst.

The lack of fight is disappointing, but it is a wake up call early in a long season.

Right—seemed like an old big East game..
If anyone was wondering how the current Pitt team would stack up with the mid-to-late 2000 Pitt teams, there you go; not that it is an entirely fare comparison. But at least for this game, it looked like the team has adopted the old stereotype of ACC softness. It's only one game though, and Pitt is missing who is most likely its most physical starter.

The SEC is buying all the coaches and the players. Even the big10 can't keep up. The haves will be fewer, the have nots will be many and it is happening very quickly.

I think that if you played an old fashioned big East game today in the ACC, your fouls would be unbearable.

Uh huh. And poor defense.

I certainly won't argue that any of the three played well defensively, but the big problem isn't them, it's the little guys not being able to stay in front of their man. So someone gets beat off the dribble and one of the bigs has to step to them to cut off an easy layup, and the guy with the ball just dumps it down to the big's man for an easy dunk. The big looks like a bum because his man just dunked the ball, but the blame lies with the guy who go beat off the dribble and forced the big into an untenable situation.
