Today was a lopsided win,12-1, called after 5 innings because of the mercy rule.
But, why did Aprile pitch to Olivia Gott again? She was UVA’s offense in this series, with 4 HRs. With no one on and two out in the first, she pitched to her and on cue Gott hit a HR. The two batters behind her in the order had zero hits in the series. Coach, what were you thinking?
Other than that, Kayla Harris pitched well. I was surprised that she started over Sarah Dawson since she pitched yesterday. Had we not scored 7 in the 5th to cause the mercy rule to take effect, maybe she was going to use Dawson in the 6th and 7th.
We now are 1/2 a game up on UNC for 1st in the Coastal Division. Every game remaining is critical: 2 against Marshall next weekend, one midweek game with Kent State and then a final 3 game series with Louisville. The first three games won’t count in the ACC standings but they are critical to our chance to make the NCAAs.
One really nice thing today: Taylor Stimsen, who basically has been a pinch runner since she transferred from St. John’s two years ago, got the RBI single that triggered the mercy rule. It was her first RBI as a Panther.
