PITT Softball vs GT

PITT takes game one today with clutch hitting in the top of the 7th to come from behind for the 3-2 victory. PITT's bats were very quiet through six innings and ended with 11 Ks. Not too often are you going to get taken to school like that and still get the victory. Another nice outing for PITT's ace Savannah King despite not having her best stuff today.

The Panthers are now 21-4 (3-1) on the season going into game two of the double header. They only had 19 wins all of last season, a pretty remarkable turnaround.

Scoring 2 in the 7th with two out and down to our last strike was pretty amazing. Two clutch hits by Sevilla (to tie) and Modic (to win). Not to be overlooked is Coach Aprile's subbing in a pinch runner at second with I believe 2 strikes on Modic. The runner scored by a stride. No pinch runner, likely no lead run. Then Savannah has to go through the heart of GT's lineup in the bottom of the 7th. It was her pitching and fielding that won the game. Last two outs were a pitcher to second to first DP. Really nice start to the year.

After getting clobbered in game two, they came back and won game 3, 7-4. They now are 4-2 in the ACC, with both series having been played on the road, and something like 21-4 overall. Pitching still the big issue, but I guess we will find out if they are for real against ND and Louisville.
