college football is a strange game. Upsets are still not a frequent occurrence, so I'm encouraged with the vegas line going with Pitt.
Who am I to argue with vegas? 27-21 overtime Pitt victory, with James Connor scoring the winner.
Vegas is what has me worried the most about this game. To me, this should be a fg spread. General public will be all over Penn State getting that many points. The general public is usually wrong. Based on Vegas, I think Pitt blows us out.
The opening games for both teams gave us nothing. Two scrimmage like games. Win and try to avoid injury. Get different guys playing time to see what they can do. The great Joe Paterno always stated that teams improve the most between weeks 1 and 2. I know other coaches have stated that.. just wanted to spike that heart rate for you Pitters having their morning coffee.. Back on point, I think we see two different teams Saturday and I don't know what to expect. That's why it's fun.
So what I think will happen is Pitt will put together some good, long drives but not many big plays on offense. Penn State will make a few big plays on offense but struggle to be consistent. I think Barkley is involved in the passing game and he makes a couple game breaking plays running and receiving. Godwin wins a couple one on one matchups downfield. Gesicki poses a matchup problem in coverage and makes a couple big plays downfield. That'll get us to 17 points or so. We'll need a big turnover or big return on special teams to get us any more points. I think Pitt gets 10-14 on their long drives. Red zone will be key. If we can hold them to fg attempts, I'll like our chances. They'll need a PSU turnover or a punt block to get more points. So without any huge plays on special teams or defense, I think PSU wins 17-13. But there's always crazy plays that happen.
