Pitt vs Syracuse thread

H2P! Was this the first time in a long while when both the Panthers AND the Steelers had blow out wins in successive games? This was fun and very unstressful. Hope that Eli is OK (minor concussion, perhaps?) and we will be as good against SMU next weekend

Holstein's hypothetical stats if Pitt had 36 minutes of possession time vs only 18 would be--

22/30 for 216 yds and 4 TDs

Pick 6!!!!
Just to find that little cloud on a 78 degree sunny football day....Up 24-0 with three timeouts (I think, but it might have been 2) and Syracuse having two I don't get the timeout with 2:13 left in the first half and ready to punt from near midfield.

Pitt is going to get the ball inside the 20 in all likelihood (which they did) with a couple ticks over 2:00 in essence giving Syracuse three timeouts should they stop Pitt deep. You know they are going to run the ball to see if something breaks and then the clock stops at 2:00 heading in to second down. By not gaining much it sets up a three and out with a punt giving Syracuse plenty of time in good field position. Which is exactly what happened. I know, I know, I know, it led to another pick six but that is beside the point. Why give them the chance to put seven on the board before the half before they get the ball first in the second half. In the old Pitt days (ie anytime in the last 40 years) that is what would have occurred and before you know it it would be 24-14 with 10 minutes to go in the 3rd...

I understand wanting to put more points on the board but had the hired a time management coordinator he would have told them to let the clock run down to 2:00 before the punt, get the ball with 1:50 and three timeouts and plenty of time do your thing while having the ability to run out the half if need be without Syracuse ever having a shot at another possession...Did not matter last night as the football gods where on high raining down blessings on Pitt but it was not a wise thought process nonetheless..

For anyone interested, the ACCN just started showing a replay of the game at 12:30. Turned it on literally as the ball was in the air for the first pick six.

Ran into a few Cuse fans. They were good sports.
The players looked liked they had fun too.
