Pitt vs Syracuse

This game should be the focus in the Pittsburgh area right now and leading up to Thursday. There will be plenty of time to talk about the Steelers or Pens throughout the weekend.

I’ve said this many times, that one of the reasons Pitt-Cuse isn’t a real rivalry despite the familiarity, is that rarely have the two met when the game meant something for both programs.

I think you’re correct that 1989 was the last time both were ranked for the matchup. But the periods of success for both have been out of phase for like 60 years.

Despite the fact that my claim that this season has a 2015 feel to it being rejected by some, I seem to recall a ranked 6-1 Pitt football team hosting a 6-1 UNC team on a Thursday night that season. Pitt modified its helmets that night to have the script in pink.

The similarities continue.

Sounds ugly. I wish we had gray facemasks for a true mustard and slightly darker blue throwback uni.

The gray facemasks are something I don't get the infatuation with. I'd much rather have a color that actually matches. They just seem so random.

Guessing they were just the color everyone used to have, since they were also part of the Steelers' throwbacks the other night.

just glad we don't have to play in syracuse this year. That stadium has some of the worst TV site lines

Yea, I was thinking that. Very disappointing game. Very disappointing crowd. Pitt seems to never win these "big" night games. I dont feel like looking it up but we have to be something like 7-20 at night at Heinz. I remember us beating:

WVU twice (Thanksgiving and 2 years ago)
VT Lousaka
UVa season-opener under Wanny
ND once with Wanny and once with Chryst
UNC once on that Thursday night

Depends what we're calling a big game, I guess. Like I remember beating VT in 2014 when Brewer or something was their QB. But that was far from a big game.

Beat UNC in 2019 and 2021. South Florida the night Ray Graham went off and I think LeBron James tweeted about it.

I would rather have Dinocat for 1 night instead of anything pink.
I remember that Thursday night in 15 against UNC, that was soo bad.

The Florida International uniforms last night looked like something an old school coach made them wear as punishment for not being tough enough.

I guess they're trying to put a Miami Vice spin on it, buttttttt...

Worries me..........crowd will not be great. Steelers just suck the oxygen and life out of the local sports scene. Stupid yellow seats and people need to come to grips with the Pitt fanbase is just not that large. There are few "casual" Pitt fans here.

I'd predict about 44. I think it will be decent but nothing close to good. And if there are less, I'll still say I was right and it just looked deceptive because everyone in the club seats chose to watch it on televisions inside the stadium (an infamous excuse) because it was chilly.

Steelers aren't sucking the oxygen from this one, it's Thursday night and Pitt is playing the always boring Syracuse.

It's a small fanbase and I've never understood why that's hated on.

Because we play in an oversized stadium with bright yellow seats that highlight every empty one. Most stadiums seats tend to mask the empty ones.
Pitt needs to do something because it makes a bad impression to the viewing audience. At the very least add cameras that show the home side. We have about 45-50 fans (including students) when times are good. It is what it is.

Yes Yes Yes — spot on! If we have to play in a 70,000 seat stadium, then downsize it with tarps! I don’t understand why they refuse to do this! As you say, those bright yellow seats look so bad when empty! It even looks bad during some Steeler games!
