Pitt vs UF thread

I was not impressed by Florida, except for their defense.

They did two things really well on offense. Clayton was 6-8 on threes. The rest of the team was 2-16. And Samuel was 9-9 on twos. The rest of the team was 14-33, and that included Clayton's 5-9. Take that out and the rest of the team was 9-24 on twos.

They were tonight though. Bad combo of Hinson missing a lot of FT, and UF having minimal turnovers (8). They had 20 against FSU and 16 against UVA. Their earlier competitive games likely helped. Pitt should rebound Friday.

The positive was rebounding. As I posted, it is a known law of basketball when Pitt is outshot by 3, they most likely lose. It happened again tonight (33 to 29). Outshoot by 3 and out rebound, you will win most games.

I also want to know if Hinson bet the over on that foul he committed to hit the over of 156.5.

Pitt needs to shoot 3s at a good percentage to win games like this. Our offense doesn't generate enough easy looks.

I mean this just proves to me that we arent Sweet 16 caliber. This is an NCAAT team and that's all we can ask for.
Are you sure?? One thing I will say about last year is we had tough physical senior guards. This year, other than Ish, we are young and much softer. I'm not sure what we have yet. I can tell you this, if Hinson isn't making 3s, he really hurts us.
Ish looks like a solid player, and Bub should get better, but this team really could use Papa Kante. We just were not strong enough on the defensive end. The Diaz bros were like pylons and Fede got in foul trouble. I really thought Fede's defense last year was the key that started our good run. Toward the end of last year he faded, and we need alot more from him to wind up an NCAA tournament team.
Since we are somewhat young I expect improvement and playing a team like Florida will help us get better. That said, we go nowhere if Hinson doesn't pick it up, and Bub doesn't steadily get better at the point.

Well Lowe can develop as well. I didn’t think he looked awful in the sparing time he got. Maybe you need to rest Hinson and Bub at times when it is clear they can use a breather.

Well, I'm pretty sure the 19-10 lead began to evaporate when Bub and Blake were subbed for in the 1st half. This is the problem we face. Big drop-offs when they are not in.

That said, I do agree about Lowe. He is probably the one guy on the roster with a lot of room for growth. And that may well be the key to getting the most out of this team. JC may need to consider starting him over Austin and going smaller. That's pretty much what we were last year - a 4 guard offense. The dilemma there is we don't have a 6th man like Sibande to sub in for them.
