Loser won't make the NCAAT. The winner also may not but has a decent chance. Both of these teams arent getting in so it could come down to THIS head to head to decide the last spot or 2.

Stop being so damn reactionary about every game. The league season isn’t half over. There are plenty of games to be played. Both these teams may make it and both may be left out. Give it another 3 weeks. Things should be a little clearer then.

While it is a very important game, it is not a must. You never know what will happen, hell, we may with the ACC tournament.

For a guy who admitted just a couple weeks ago that he had no idea how it works you sure do seem to think that you have it all figured out.

I learned. Q4 losses basically cancel out Q1 wins. So right now, 3 Q1 wins + 1 Q4 loss is basically the same as a team with 2 Q1 wins and no Q4 losses. Of course SOS comes into play but assuming the teams are generally equal, that's how it works. This is why Clemson is seen as not far from being a bubble team despite being 16-4. They have 2 Q4 losses despite those losses really not being that bad (at South Carolina, neutral vs Loyola Chicago)

If you throw enough qualifiers in there you can claim you are right no matter what!

This is, of course, widely known among higher education circles as the SMF Gambit.

Ha, here I thought our OOC results were pretty poor but we actually have 2 pretty impressive OOC wins, UNC and UVA!!

Quad 1
13 UVa
36 @ NC State
51 @ NW

Quad 2
32 UNC
101 @ Syr

It would be super helpful if UNC finished in the Top 30 and Syr in the Top 75 and FSU in the Top 160 (currently 187)

Yeah at this point it’s not a must because of the # of games remaining.

But SMF is getting more heat herein than he should because, realistically based on probable wins/losses the rest of the way out, he’s more right than wrong.

Look at our roster and all the holes. It’s a miracle we’ve made it into the conversation

I don’t expect them to even get a top 2 seed in the NIT.

I think we’ll be lucky to finish with 11 or 12 conference wins at this point

I don't think you are right, but I do think Pitt is going to pound Wake !

Another hyperbolic SMF post. Shocker!

Little confused, do you all feel that the loser of this game makes it? I mean they could, but the chances are very very small given what they'd have to do in February/March. So its a really easy prediction that the loser of this game doesn't make it.

Sure, they can go 9-1 and make it but they wont. No way the loser of this game makes the NCAAT. Mark it down.
I agree with you. If they lose tomorrow their NCAAT hope is pretty much over. This is a huge game to prove they are for real. You can’t lose too many at home because road wins are tough to come by

Yea with both Pitt and Wake currently on the first four in/last four in/first four out lines right now it’s an important game to win for sure. It will be another Quad 2 win if Pitt can win this game and give you a lot of momentum going into a big game at home against Miami here on Saturday. A loss against Wake most definitely puts Pitt on the outside looking in for making the NCCA Tournament.

this one game will not determine Pitt or Wake Forests tournament hopes. That is what everyone is trying to tell you SMF. Your hyperbole that this is an elimination game is what everyone is making fun of you about. It is too early in the season to say something like that

It certainly is not a “play out” game in January. Both teams have plenty of games left. What I would say is this game is low hanging fruit for both Pitt and Wake. It’s a winnable game for both teams against a team that will boost their resume.

If I said "I predict the loser of this game will not make the NCAA Tournament" would that make you guys feel any better?

There’s a lot of hyperbole (understatement) in this thread, but I think SMF is taking too much heat. It’s a massive game. You can’t lose 3 games in a row at home in the middle of the conference season and feel like you are going to make the tournament. It’s a bubble team versus a bubble team, and Pitt is staring down a game against Miami where we will not be favored.

So, yea…maybe there aren’t “must win” games this early, but they better not lose, at home, again.

I am waiting for one person to say "You are wrong SMF, I predict the loser of this game will make the NCAAT." Can we get one person to come out and say that?
