Pitt will bring in an experienced QB

Yeah, these people are tilting at windmills.

Everybody is acknowledging there are reasons to think he can improve, and reasons for optimism.

There are also reasons to think he wasn’t that good last year, and needs to get a lot better this year.

The two things aren’t mutually exclusive. To argue the latter isn’t to deny the former.
But see you are now agreeing with what people or saying when they say that he could be better. There is not one person who has posted that said the young man played lights out. They only acknowledged that he played decent, and think he can be even better in his 2nd year. But people seem to be bent out of shape, that some of us think he is going to be good.

Again, as I and others have noted, the young man was redshirt freshman, and wasnt terrible. Last year was his first time ever playing college football. No he has a whole year under his belt, a complete off-season in Bell's system. So if he can suck as some of you say, why cant he be better?

You must not remember this, but there were people on this very board a month into last season who were arguing that he was Heisman trophy good last season. That he was already a top five, or at worst, top ten quarterback in the country. And when anyone said it was ridiculous to think that the pollyannas went bananas.

Pitt lost a lot potential boosters by killing football in the 1990s. Who is willing to give big money when you can’t trust the university? Since three coaches in three years in football and cutting hoops’ budget around the same time, the results have been average in football and pretty poor in hoops.

I’m hoping Greene and the Gabel can turn this around. It feels dicey with Capel as the coach and football in the middle of the conference in NIL. I’ll add Narduzzi’s pathetic handling of the bowl game by playing for overtime to not have confidence in either coach at the moment.
It didn’t
Those boosters never existed

Including how much better Eli was than Drew Allar .
Some very short memories, here .

No short memories. We are all talking about statements being made in this thread. The only thing being talked about here, is that he could be better. That is all. But the more I post the same thing, the more another reply comes back with something different. Its fine to say he sucked and no proof he will not be better. But you cant keep trying to downplay others because they feel differently.

I assume everyone who is on this message board, are Pitt fans. So would want him to be better. If not, and you are not a Pitt fan, acknowlege it so other posters like myself will not get into these back and forth posts.

Can you provide any proof he will be better?

I mean ffs you gotta realize (or maybe not) that whether you think he’ll be a Heisman winner and some else thinks he’ll blow, neither of you can provide any proof.

Nobody has said Holstein outright sucks and won't succeed. But I don't get why so many get so defensive when saying there are question marks about him.

Cashisking provided some good insight above from people who get paid to do this. Additionally, one of the premier staffs in college football hypothesized that he would never play QB at this level and considered moving him to H-back.

He can still be a good player in spite of all that. But it's not an affront to say you have doubts. If you don't have doubts right now, then you're just a Kool-aid-guzzling homer (sure, even they are right sometimes), because any objective fan is approaching the position this season with something between skepticism and, the category I think most fall into, cautious optimism.

I agree.

Here is what I know for a fact. Pitt was 7-0 until Eli got hurt.

It's funny when people don't seem to get that there is a middle ground between "All American" and "completely sucks". A lot of middle ground, in fact.

I dont know why people are questioning Holstein let’s see what he does this fall. I don’t take much stock in spring scrimmages because they are so controlled by the coaches and for good reason. Besides there’s no media covering the scrimmage so it’s all second hand reporting that the media is getting.
When the bell sounds in August we’ll see what happens. Hopefully it’s all good. 😊

Huh? I’m now agreeing with them? When didn’t I agree with them?

You’re kinda seeing what you want to see in terms of how this thread went.

It was largely debating the merits of spending money on a backup QB, with a side adventure discussion on whether Pitt had the ability to elevate itself as a program, but poor QB recruiting/OC hire ruined that window?

During all of that one person commented that QB is a position where fans should be confident in going into next year, and how that’s a change from most years.

And then in response to that comment, a few people said Eli was fairly mediocre last year, and needs to show a lot of improvement. And there’s no guarantee he will improve to the level needed, so QB isn’t really set going into next year.

That’s it. And then you rode in on your white horse to defend the Holstein honor, and called people pathetic.

Nobody ever attacked him. Nobody ever said he didn’t flash anything last year. Nobody ever said he can’t get better. You just made that up in your head.

So-
Healthy Eli = National Championship, by this “logic “
Because I see multiple losses with Eli at qb on the schedule .

But yes- that 108 yards of passing against Cuse is was crucial

you both are arguing and saying the exact same thing, it's kind of funny to watch..

Randomly watched Chris Peak's video today. Five interceptions at the scrimmage this past Saturday, of which Pat Narduzzi described more as "giveaways" than "takeaways." That... kind of checks out.

that's a lot.. i saw three on the twitter scrimmage video.. they looked like bad passes. i know the wind was crazy so that probably added to it..

Louis jumped an out pattern (bad throw), Brookins had one deep along the sideline, the pass was so bad that it looked like Cruce was the intended wr and the WR was the DB who was 4 yards behind him. The 3rd was a deep ball that looked like a fair punt..

but excuses are just that.

with regards to our WRs, im actually feeling pretty good about Kenny, not sure what's behind him though. we've seen Poppi williams and his Sure hands (please note sarcasm), hopefully the 9th year transfer from FSU finally gets it, then Censere Lee. i mean, we arent working with a full deck there..
