Another tough game for the Pitt women's team. Lost to Miami by 24. Pitt shot poorly -- went only 3 for 15 from 3 -- to go with 20 turnovers.

With the team being so young, this season is going to be all about just getting as much playing experience as possible and trying to improve. All 5 freshmen are seeing action.

One hopeful sign from tonight's game was that freshman guard Tania Lamb was 3 for 4 from 3 and scored 12 points. She's done little if anything to this point, but she and Cassidy Walsh look like the best bets for giving Pitt 3-point threats down the road. Also looked like a pretty strong game from freshman forward Brenna Wise tonight - going 7 for 13 with 6 rebounds.

Big disappointment so far has been the play of Soph. Stasha Carey, who finished strong last season but is struggling this season. She was 1 for 10 tonight, but had 9 rebounds. She -- along with Aysia Bugg -- really need to be effective on the offensive end for this team to have any chance.

Pitt is now 8 and 7.

Go Pitt.

This sort of reminds me of the early part of Walt Harris' tenure. Harris took over a bad team, but found that he had an excellent player (Pete Gonzales), and he rode that player to a surprising season. The next season, the team cratered without Pete, then Walt slowly built the team up. Brianna played that role for the women. Now the true rebuilding has begun. We should be good two seasons from now.

Aysia Bugg seems to really have regressed. I know she's in a different role this year versus last, but her level of play has really gone down. 27 minutes tonight, 2 points 6 turnovers. She simply has to play better.

Suzie also unexpectedly got great play inside and 3 pt shooting from the former volleyball player whose name escapes me. We miss her height.

Yes, Monica Wignot (now how can you forget that name!) was really a big bonus for the Panthers last season. She's a grad assistant now.

I was disappointed that Coach Suzie didn't bring in a taller post player - I'm sure she tried because she had to know that a taller post player was a big need and the missing piece on this team.

I think it's critical she bring in a taller post player for next season -- even a transfer would be good -- but we don't have any seniors and I think we've already signed another guard and another 6-foot forward.

Those two signings would bring us to 13 scholarship players, which is about the most the women's team has ever carried, though they are permitted to carry 15.

Go Pitt.
