Not much to see here, NC State shot the lights out of the ball all game long, and Pitt just never got any consistent offense going. Will be interested to see how they fare vs. the non-ranked ACC teams.

Long way to go to be a top 25 team.

The difference between the top women's teams in the country (and NC State is surely one of the top teams in the country) and a good team or a not so good team is much larger than it is in men's basketball.

NC State was 6-10 on threes in the first quarter, and added another 4-8 in the second. They would have clobbered a good team tonight. And we certainly were not a good team tonight.

BiG difference as to
where our program is
compared to the UCONN'S,
S, Carolina, NC. ST etc., etc.
Actually this season I've
seen us look worse than
we did tonight. The talent
difference is night and
day.

Women's Bball always has a
large gap between the elite
and the others.

Yes. That gap is enormous in women’s hoops.

Georgia Tech beat UCONN
yesterday. Women's Bball
is still a long way from
universal parity. A win
like that just might be a
sign of "the others" getting
better. However it's still
those elite UCONN's
S. Carolina, and yes NC.ST.
We got a taste of that
level tonight. Coach should
use it as a learning tool.
We are improving, and a
game like this against this
level of opponent is to be
expected IMO.

It might be, but it almost certainly is not. Right now four of UConn's players are hurt and not playing, including the best women's player in the country. If Georgia Tech did that to UConn when they were healthy then that would be one thing. But what happened last night is something else entirely.

Like I said, still a long
way from parity. But
seriously the "others"
are getting better. Pitt
for one is getting better.
Nowhere near the elites,
but coaches like White
can use a game like
tonight's to keep on
improving and building.

Didn’t see or hear the game, but I see that Cynthia played a few minutes. They said to expect her back for ACC play…

And Emy and Day went a combined 1-11. Ouch.

Glad to get that game out of the way…

Go Pitt.

In a game like this the
Cynthia's, and Emy's of
the Bball world are basically
inconsequential. The only
player we have anywhere
near the talent of a NC ST
team is Everett. Right now
Day is working herself back.

We're better, but a long
way away from the UCONN's
and NC.St's. A few more ACC
wins and maybe...MAYBE
we begin to move out of
the cellar and towards the
middle of the league. That
would be a huge step
forward IMO.

I think Coach White has an interesting way of putting it. To have a good team, he says, you have to get old and then stay old.

This team is still working at getting old. Hopefully they get old sometime this season…

Go Pitt.

I agree that generally speaking the gap IS getting smaller. But it is a long, slow process at this point.
True. Last night's game
with NC.ST proves it.
Pitt as we all know has
depth and much improved
talent. Our first several
games showed that talent.
Last night's game looked
like a JV team playing the
Varsity. In fact we didn't
play that poorly. The talent
gap is THAT wide. NC.ST is
there with the UCONN's,
S.Carolina's of the women's
Bball world. We and the
"others' I referenced above
are far, far away...but still
getting better.

IMO they already have
to a large degree.
Their play is better, they
have depth that is now
experienced. No matter
how "old" this group gets,
they are not and will not
get anywhere near the
elites of women's Bball.
They have to keep getting
better players. I do like
this group, but again far,
far away from the elites.
It is nothing like the men's
side of the equation.

No need to be elite - at least for me. Just get to the NCAA tourney consistently…

That said, if Pitt could get the big-time local talent, I suspect they could compete pretty high up in the ACC…. Lots of good HS players in the local area right now…

Go Pitt.

We will have to see how it turns out, but I think we did get the best local player in this year's class.

OK, I can go with that,
but when an elite team
comes in and beats you
by 35.... Well, to me it's
pretty obvious that to
close that gap you need
a major up lift in talent.
My point was, even with
a pretty hefty recruiting
improvement, we're still
way behind the elite. I
like Pitt's improved talent
level. It's just that we're
still a long way off from
the elites. I actually would
like to see what you said,
NCAA's consistently. Our
present talent level will
not make that happen.
I want to see us get to the
mid level of the ACC and then
improve and go from there.
