Pitt women's game...

Didn't make it to the women's exhibition game against IUP, but some observations from the box score:

--Looks like the starters were sophomores Diop, Carey and Bugg, and freshmen Walters and Wise. Talk about a young team...

--Big game by freshman Brenna Wise - 8 for 11 shooting for 19 points in 29 minutes. Looks like she's going to be a big part of the team this season - they certainly are going to need big contributions from a few of the freshmen.

--Yacine Diop had a nice game shooting 5 for 8 with 8 rebounds.

--The team only had 9 turnovers.

--Fred Potvin was 3 for 3 from 3. I'm guessing she's going to become a bigger contributor this season.

--Don't forget about Brittany Gordon. She's now a junior, and has always been a little used backup or been injured, but she has shown in the past that she can play some. She went 4 for 5 in this game. Will likely see time as backup PG.

--Surprised that Cassidy Walsh only played 8 minutes, after she looked so good in the scrimmage.

Opener is Friday at 11 am at the Pete versus Wagner.

Where Pitt needs work is on defense. IUP got way too many offensive rebounds. Pitt needs to tighten up quite a bit.
As far as Brenna Wise goes, she looked like she was a senior on the court. I'm sure she'll have some freshman moments this season, but man, she takes charge out there.
