PITT's AD interview with local TV station.

Yes-
When we are great we pick up more fans.
When we are merely good , we regress to the mean.

The Pete atmosphere was a function of the zoo. Exclusively.

Waned over 13 years? Yeah- no kidding.

Dixon is gone and the fans will be more sparse. Time to find a new scape goat.

Your entire premise was pitt drove away fans ... but it's cornerstone is a myth.
There's a difference between a scapegoat and a root cause.....and you seem unable to grasp the difference. Yes, flagging results drove away the fans. CBI caliber BB drove away fans, losing to Bradley and Butler drove away fans, recruiting guards who couldn't shoot jump shots drove away fans, relying on 5th year grad transfers from low caliber programs drove away fans. It's not complicated.

Those aren't fans of a team
Those are fans of winning.
Was it a credit to pitt for drawing them in the first place???

Pitt drew in those same fans with unheralded recruits and cast offs . With a coach from Northen Arizona and an assistant from Hawaii.

Back on point- since it's a football board- when were all these fans driven away?

You live in a fantasy world, chemist, to believe winnning and commitment to winning aren't associated with fan loyalty.

As for your other question, you've already been schooled on the subject and proven yourself uneducable.

Jamie was quite the recruiter his the last 3-4 years at PITT. He was consistently unable to close the deal with top recruits. No other coach with a national reputation was worse. In typical PITT fashion, they were slow or did not know how to to react to a program in trouble.

Being honest , is it being slow , or is it really not caring ? I wonder sometimes how much Pitt really cares about winning

We have hired from AD's to coaches , a bunch of who cares or hopes and wishes, or crap, for a long time. When have we went out and got the top guy from other equally size programs , in any of our hiring? Not saying some might not work out to be great , but I don't see a school that really seems to try and be the best. Maybe you do ......

Like Del rightfully stated, hard to get fully invested when the school doesn't seem to be

Then went to another school ... not even a blue blood at that, just a regular school ... and IMMEDIATELY began recruiting better.

This is not coincidence. This is a piece of excrement administration.

You be the judge whether Heather can change the current culture within the athletic department.

Also, Heather, give it up trying to schedule PSU long-term. They have no intentions and their fan base simply enjoys watching PITT beg.

Thanks for posting the link. I thought she came across as professional, excited and well thought out with respect to her answers and demeanor. She is a great new spokesperson for Pitt athletics. Not sure why the criticism with respect to scheduling PSU? She merely answered the question that was asked of her and indicated she has reached out to Sandy Barbour and has made it known that there is interest in continuing to play. She never said, nor even suggested, she expected it to happen. What responsible AD at Pitt would not make such an overture? I have no idea whether Heather Lyke will be successful at Pitt or not, but I'm going to be all in supporting her and the program. Looking forward to the season beginning! Hail to Pitt!

What's the point of making an overture? It just makes Penn State look better, yet we continue to do it. When Lyke moves on, the next AD will do the same, exact thing, with the same, exact results.

PITT needs a doer/innovator/sports leader not just a spokeperson.
If I remember back some years SP and Barnes were excellent spokeperson's in fact talking was their strong point!

They had a problem with doing things, new things, innovating, introducing new sports things, and just plain getting things done but they could talk.

I'm noticing a similar style!

I'm not sure how a two minute phone call or personal conversation makes Penn State look better, except to someone who is self-loathing.

Seriously, "hey Sandy, if you ever decide playing an actual rival is more important than making some more cash give me a call, we'd be amenable" somehow makes Pitt look bad? As opposed to the program that thinks that money is more important than the game? On what planet?

no to tOSU. No to tosu. htp, im telling you, we want no parts of that.. dude, I said it before, psu and wvu say they bring 25k and bring 8k. tosu will say nothing and bring 28k. it's too much, im telling you. I still have nightmares from a full sea of red in a Zelda's bar on a Friday night in mid 90s. It still haunts me. I wake up all sweaty, shaking, nerves all shot to hell.

Like it's an option... after Pitt cancelled the remaining games of the last series at the last minute - coupled w/ the boorish pitt fan accosting jim o'brien after the 20+ point loss at the pete - andy geiger (then AD) said tOSU would never schedule Pitt in football or basketball *ever*.

Well you assume that negotiations have no chance? Perhaps not, but you never know if you don't try. It would be irresponsible for Pitt not to try to schedule PSU. I don't think it makes PSU look better, unless you believe petty means better? Did WVU give up trying to schedule Pitt? Nope, and now they have a game on the schedule. While all negotiations do not result in a happy ending...doing it is important [e.g. North Korea, etc.]. Hail to Pitt!

Still smarting because Heather has not called, written or scheduled a meeting with you? Please!!! Give the woman a chance. What amazing innovations do you see around the country that Pitt is turning its back upon? Ultimately, there are only so many things you can do. 2017 is the first Lyke football season...let's see how it goes before throwing stones. And keep in mind, the coaches and schedules were handed to her for all sports [other than wrestling], so short of being God where miracles are concerned, there is only so much you can move the needle in a short period of time. Hail to Pitt!

Good info!
fyi - I could care less if I get a call or meet with the AD. I have lots of things to keep me busy!

I'm a "locked in" PITT fans and there's nothing they can do to make me not a PITT fan!
PITT sports and make me angry but I'm still a fan and will attend the games.

Mrs Buffett and I go to all the home games ( 600 mile r/t) so we're not the problem its the other 20k fans who should go to the games but don't that need to see something to make them interested in PITT again or maybe for the first time!
I would prefer that she wines and dines influential people, Corporations, local businesses who don't go to the games or aren't PITT fans/supporters but could be.

Our season tickets are arrving tomorrow according to the tracking # /email info we recieved and we just made some final switches in hotels on the Northshore to get better rates so we ready to roll! We locked in half the nights with no cancel rates and saved a ton of money. Of course if u cancel you lose the money.

We're Ready For Some Football!

As you say we'll see wont we!

Wasn't introducing new sports things the reason why everyone hated SP?

Correct, I assume that they have no chance unless PSU has another scandal, which should be in about 5 minutes.

Google Luke Whitte and the attack at Minnesota. If they can forgive that, they can forgive Pitt.
Geiger left Ohio State long ago. The real reason OSU won't schedule Pitt is the same reason PSU refuses.
No way OSU puts money in the pocket of non conference near geography foes.
They won't play UC either.
Hell, even at their Basketball camps they break down the players into conferences. The ACC ain't one of them. Kids play in the big ten, big eight, SEC but not the ACC.
Its somewhat funny.
