Pitt's offensive woes extend far beyond our offensive scheme and game day play calling. Our offensive talent evaluation, especially in terms of TE, O-line & Running Back have been, to put it mildly, atrocious.
Looking Back over the last 6 seasons under Narduzzi, literally all of the NFL caliber Offensive talent was recruited under the Paul Chryst regime. Tyler Boyd, Holtz & Orndoff ,O'Neill, Bisnowaty, Jones-Smith & Johnson, Conner & Oillison, all were evaluated and recruited under Chryst. Outside of Transfer QB Nate Peterman, who Jim Chaney brought with him from Tennessee, the Narduzzi area has been woeful when it comes to recruiting offensive players.
The best offensive position group recruited under Narduzzi seems to be WR. Bolstered more by transfers than recruiting, even the recent additions of Addison & Jacques-Louis need to clean up their drops before they can be considered NFL caliber.
Kenny Pickett can certainly be considered NFL caliber, as was Ben DiNucci, who was part of Narduzzi's 1st class.
Pitt can bring in the second coming of Sid Gillman at offensive coordinator & Joe Moore at O-line coach, but if Pitt doesn't improve it's talent evaluation when it comes to offensive players it won't matter. Our offensive woes lay more with a lack of talent then they do with coaching & scheme.
