Playing WVU or Penn State only gives them the opportunity to have their fans play closer to home

because their opponents are so far away - not my fault. Why would we give them the chance to see their teams play at our expense. There is no way that I would ever go to WVU to see a game - don't you all remember the abuse bestowed upon us each time we made the trip to their stadium - beer thrown, verbal abuse, automobiles damaged, players abused on and off the field, band & cheerleaders abused with rocks thrown at them. That is not a football game - that is combat duty. As for Penn State - who wants to sit in an erector set that is soooo high up you are in a different zip code. As for the game in Pittsburgh - their fans will dominate Heinz Field. Many Pitt fans will be the "good" guys and get tickets for their family & friends from PSU and I will again be surrounded by "them" and have to listen to their utopia about Joe Pa their lily white teams. No thanks!

I hope our fans don't sell tickets to PSU fans next year, we need that stadium to be rocking! If they have a ton of Nitters at Heinz you can guarantee Franklin will be al over it when recruiting too. Packing Heinz with Pitt fans for that game starts now, hopefully NardDawg can keep getting people excited about the program once the season starts and the rest will take care of itself.

But how many WVU fans treated you nicely @ their place?
OP had to be describing a (very) small minority of silly jerks

that

every place has including ours.

So Pitt is doing a favor to WVU and PSU by allowing them to play close to home since their conference mates are so far away. Thanks!! The opposite argument could be made as well. Pitt fans can make an easy drive to Morgantown or State College instead of one of the ACC campuses which may or may not require booking a flight.

Why would they dominate your stadium? Honest question. With some creative marketing and pricing, Rutgers stadium which holds 53K, was fully 46K Rutgers fans to their 7K.

We were able to pretty mostly shut them out other than their 3K allotment plus another 4,000 that either bought season tickets to RU so they could see their team.... or got their tickets through Rutgers fans, ad that was because of the demand from our own fans.

Would think you guys would do the same.

OH, and I will be a HUGE Pitt fan when you play them.

When the Fans fill the stands of any Stadium anywhere for any game that is a good thing for college football and all schools. This is and always will be the purpose of College Football Games not just healthy competition and physical play to develop the brains, but entertainment and banter comes with such games.

Good Info and thank you, and shows Pitt would be closer to more Big Ten Teams?

Can you do one that shows PITT being close to Big Ten Schools and do the same Penn State would be close to more ACC Teams?

I would love to see that comparison. Penn State has always had the geographic advantage when an Eastern Independent and I always thought Penn State would be a better fit in the ACC?

You data can add to that debate and issue? Thank you in advance!

He just listed the teams on this year's schedule. You might have noticed the absence of such far away schools as Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

He just listed the teams on this year's schedule. You might have noticed the absence of such far away schools as Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
I used the schools both teams will play annually either in division or permanent rival games. I left off Florida State, Clemson for Pitt. Those are only going to be 1 or 2 games each year and not make up the bulk of the schedule annually. For example Pitt will only play at Florida State once every 14 years. So why include those schools? Here the average for all of them even if the trip will be once a decade.

Thank you PSUNUT excellent Info and Pitt and PSU are good fits in the Big Ten but that did not happen.

Yet, I still think PSU is a good fit in both Conferences the Big Ten and ACC now that they added UMD & RU and put OSU, UM, MSU and Indiana in the same Divisions.

I still think the FBS Power Conferences will one day break off into a For Profit League and all Conferences will realign based on geography and will one day include WVU, PSU & PITT being back together again.

It would be an honor to play Penn State and WVU every year, and others may disagree with me and i respect them, but must agree to disagree!

We are all better together and nearer.

My Proposed For Profit FBS North East League Nine Team League:
BOSTON COLLEGE
CONNECTICUT or UVA
MARYLAND
PENN STATE
PITT
RUTGERS
SYRACUSE
TEMPLE or VT
WVU

If unable to add UConn and Temple, I would add UVA & VT!
THANK YOU AGAIN!

Great info. Sounds about right. Both schools are about the same distance from their conference opponents. Discussion for another day, but there is the argument that leaving out some of the traditional draws like tOSU and Michigan, the bulk of Pitt's destinations are in warmer climates, hence more geographically inviting. Just for example compare a trip to Chapel Hill in November to Champaign or Bloomington. Not sure if I have any point except to say that at least for me, I would choose to travel to the Southeast much more readily than the Mid-West.

Are you going for the weather or the game? If your going for weather the ACC win hands down. I rather see a game at Ohio State or Michigan any day over North Carolina or any other venue. Miami is a great place for weather but does this look like a great place to see a game? In Pitt's division the only real place with decent game atmosphere is VT.

I agree that Pitt should not be playing PSU or WVU. They are the two worst fanbases in sports, and unfortunately just happen to be the two nearest schools to Pitt. Those are the cards we've been dealt. So be it. I'd rather not be associated with them for the sake of a few big games and some extra revenue from increased attendance.

And PSU is just using Pitt to help with the transition from Sanduskygate.

Hence why I said leaving tOSU and Michigan out of it. And yes, weather has an influence on where/when we travel to games. That's why I loved the move to the ACC. To me it was the best fit for Pitt.

Agree.... I love the ACC and wouldn't trade it for the B1G.

I live in DC, which has the largest Pitt alumni base outside of Pittsburgh, and in within a four hour radius I can get to Pitt, UVA, Virginia Tech, Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, and NC State. The only two schools in our division that aren't in that four hour radius are in Atlanta and Miami, not exactly shabby road trips.

Not even getting into how the ACC fits us better as far as school profile, particularly size, and how demographic have been shifting to the South for some time, our third and fourth (ND & Syracuse) most played opponents also in the ACC... The only other schools not already mentioned are BC, Louisville, Clemson, and FSU. Pitt is in the right conference.

Are you going to the games to look at the crowds? I go to games to watch the teams play. The location is the bonus because games only take up part of one day.

And the second largest concentration of Pitt alumni, outside of Western PA, is in South Florida. Also the #1 concentration of prep talent. Really disappointed to be in a conference with two Florida schools.

I won't say that it isn't theoretically possible, but that has never actually happened even one time in the history of the Pitt - Penn State series. Literally, not even once.

I hope you're right! Honestly I am a little too young to know.

I have heard that Pitt "fans" look to sell. I hope I am wrong and there are no more than 10k PSU fans at Heinz!

When State College rolls in here it will be the most anticipated game we have played since well last time we played State.
Should be home and home annually
The end

And PSU is just using Pitt to help with the transition from Sanduskygate.

The only reason the game was not played was because of one reason and one reason only.
The vindictive ego maniac who ran State College.
The lies put out about the BE and Pitt, and the bullshite about needing to play here and there were total smoke screens to hide Grandpa Munsters hate.

Now however......
Nobody aside from a few care at all in terms of making those not connected with anything that happened still be connected with it any longer.
And State's FB program has made a complete or nearly complete recovery.

Big picture, it is over.

State should cancel those out games if your post were fact.
It was scheduled because Grandpa was gone and not there to stop it.
