His offense will only get better... Which is pretty frightening for all opposing teams. But will his D though? Probably not. He'll be SO good offensively for his career that I see him as Top 20 all time potential.

It's really hard to say. There's such an emphasis on "RINNNGGGZZZZZZ" right now that I don't know if Doncic will win enough titles to be top 10. Stats though? Top 20 most likely.

Yeah top 20. Would be an incredible career, and I think he can do it, to push out someone like Barkley/Malone/Petitt/Garnett from the 20 bubble (seems like a lot of 4's not named "Duncan" end up there!)

Yeah I like that there has been a shift towards RINGZ, I think partially thanks to Bill Simmons list as well as the LeBron "chasing the ghost" Jordan debate. Mostly I agree with this direction (give me Russell over Wilt to build a team around), but it may have finally over-reached and become unfair to great players like Stockton or Elgin Baylor.

I think it's a balance. Winning championships is undoubtedly important when you're getting down to the top 10, 20, 30 best players ever. The margins are ultra thin there. But at the same time, I think it's become a little too easy to rely on that only nowadays.

Luka Doncic is a major gamer! Love the Mavericks!!! First Nowitzki now Doncic? Cuban has it goin on!

I am saying at this current trajectory top 20-25. Top 10, my god, that is tough and continually even tougher group to break as each new generation of stars contributes to this.

Speaking of.....who do you guys have in the top 10? Jordan. Lebron. Kareem. Wilt. Russell. That's 5. Then? Kobe? Oscar Robertson definitely. Bird? Magic. I think those four are guarantees....now we are at #10......who? Shaq? Tim Duncan? Moses Malone? Walton? Jerry West? Pistol Pete? Hakeem? Dr J?

Jordan and LeBron are my 1 and 2 by virtue of being the first two players I’d draft if I was starting a team from scratch. I put Kareem and Wilt in but I’ll be a rebel and leave Russell out. Shaq, Kobe, Bird, and Magic. Duncan probably needs to go on. Oscar? Olajuwon? That last one is tough.

I think Kevin Durant was on top ten trajectory before he blew his Achilles.

Jordan, LeBron, Wilt, KAJ, Magic, Bird, Russell, Shaq, Duncan, Hakeem.

Kobe and Oscar at 11 and 12, but I wouldn't argue with someone that slid them up 3 spots. Curry is most likely active player to break into the top 10.

Do you want the 10 best regardless of position or a 2 deep based on position? Tiebreakers for me would include position flexibility on both ends of the court and championships.

Well now that you nailed the top 9 you have to increase it to 15. I can't choose between Duncan, West, Pistol, Shaq with his brute strength, the Doctor. So many greats.

1) MJ
2) LBJ
3) Kareem
4) Magic
5) Kobe
6) Bird
7) Duncan
8) Wilt
9) Shaq
10) Russell

Current players who could possibly end up in the Top 10-15 - Giannis, Kawhi, Luka, Steph, KD
You can't have a top 5 without the big O, much less a top 10.

Top 7 are MJ, LBJ, Kareem, Russel, Wilt, Bird and Magic. Shaq and Duncan right after.

I think Mt Rushmore is set for now -- Jordan, Kareem, LBJ, Russell. But I know the arguments for Wilt (especially if you emphasize individual dominance) and Magic as well. Bird could have been in the discussion if he his health and unusually old rookie season didn't reduce his career...from 84-87 or so, he was at that all time level.

Kobe.
He’s not top 10. I’d put him top 15-20. Wilt or Bird moves to #5. Maybe Oscar at #10.
Kobe definitely top 7. When he is actually mentioned almost side by side with Lebron and Jordan he is in top 7. Ha u know what, maybe he isn't. So many great players from different era's. I just know I've heard recently retired players say Kobe is better than Lebron.

I think it's fair to put Kobe in that "right after" bubble though I'd go Duncan, Shaq, Kobe in that order. Duncan's longevity and more steady leadership puts him slightly above imho.

Full respect to Kobe but I think a lot of that is... affected by his unfortunate death. He had some really lean years and some really inefficient years.

If GS makes something happen with this 2nd overall pick Curry might wind up with 5 rings and get in the top 10 conversation

I definitely do not think he's top 7 at all. I can maybe see the case for #10 but I wouldn't go that high. Right now, the nostalgia for Kobe is sky high and that's understandable. But take a look at the win share numbers, especially his ws per 48.

I will stick with my top 9 -- but there are about 7 who could be #10 and Kobe is certainly one of those. (Karl Malone, Robertson, Akeem, Moses Malone, Jerry West, Dr. J) And there are several current players who can also get into the mix -- namely Curry, Harden, Gianns, and Doncic at some point.

Agree -- that's the top 7.

Devil's advocate, if you keep Kobe out for win share, how do rate Bird so high? His win share trails Kobe's.

You are looking at career win share which is a cumulative stat and Kobe simply played many more seasons.

Bird's Career WS per 48 is .203. His WS per season is 23.5.

Kobe's Career WS per 48 is .170. His WS per season is 22.9

It still feels weird that kobe died. And with that I feel you have to be crazy to not have him in the top 10. His ability to score is crazy. You just can not name many if any modern day players better then him other then lebron
