Prayers for Damar

From Twitter...

*Hamlin's mom at game, rode with him to hospital.
*Has a pulse but not breathing on his own.
*Has been "intubated", listed in critical condition.

It’s actually a good questioN of when they play the game though. Has unfortunate has tragedies are life does go on. Most people when a loved on dies they get a week of or whatever vacation time they save and their job expects them back at work so they are gonna have to play this game sooner rather than later

Really upsetting. Seeing the CPR dreadful. Hoping and praying

This reminds me of the only other time I've seen something like this. Denmark's Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field (non-contact) at Euro 2021. CPR administered on the field. I believe it was said his heart stopped. Game was suspended for several hours. The good news is that Eriksen recovered and is playing again. I think the difference is that Eriksen had an undetected heart issue. Hamlin's may have been caused by the blow from #85. Not sure if that's better or worse.

Reminds me as a young kid watching my favorite bball team Loyola Marymount play and Hank Gathers collapsing on the floor.

The fact that Hamlin is intubated and in critical condition makes me unsure (and nervous) about whether or not this is a commotio cordis event.

Yea it does. I was a kid and a huge bandwagon Loyola Marymount fan. Gathers, like Eriksen, had an undetected heart issue. If Hamlin's was caused by the blow, I dont know if that's better or worse. You hate to speculate but if it was the blow, why didnt the chest padding do its job?

Thank goodness ABC/ESPN showed the MNF crew some mercy and handed it off to Scott Van Pelt, who might be the best journalist possible to cover an event like this.

When's the last time an NFL game was postponed for injury? I can't think of one.

They had a guy die on the field in 71' and did not postpone the game. I think tonight is unprecedented.
Thankfully players have much more say in when and if the game will continue. Hopefully by tomorrow morning Damar is in better shape and the game can be finished when the players decide they are ready.

I didn't want to bring that up because obviously I'm praying for a different outcome, but Chuck Hughes, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, collapsed on the field during a game against the Chicago Bears and died from a cardiac condition.

Just looked this up. That player had suffered a heart attack in the preseason and was playing 6 weeks later in a regular season game. Sounds crazy that he was ad allowed to play.
