Personally I don't feel I know anymore
now having listened to it, than I did
before listening to it. I got the feeling
that Capel was maybe told to do it.
I obviously don't know that for sure.

Let's face it, we want to know what
REALLY went on that led to these
departures. Capel wasn't going to
tell us, and in fact didn't. He gave
the stock answer...."it was mutual."
There's always two sides to everything,
and this is undoubtedly the case here.
Capel painted as positive a look into
the future as he could, but IMO that
was just talk. Body language, facial
expressions. not good.
There's issues here, IMO real issues.
Unless X or Toney or others talk
(and I don't expect them to), I doubt
we'll know what really went on.

Watching the next few games will
tell a lot. Not in wins or losses, but
seeing if we play with energy and
focus. If they just go through the
motions, that will give us a better
look.
Capel has his work cut out for him.
Let's see what he can do with it.

We're never going to know and IMO knowing won't make any difference.

They didn't want to be here anymore. Maybe some of that was on the coach who recruited them and was unable to get them to stay? In any event, it doesn't really matter. Those two are gone now and both parties are moving on.

That would explain Lyke at the Johnson presser. Coach looked tired and exhausted so I hope he regroups and recruits a great class w/a group of high schoolers, JCs and transfers!

Now is the time to stand behind coach and let him know we care about him, his coaching staff and the program!

Everyone knows this was a regularly scheduled 2-3 day before the game presser right?
Had nothing to do with X and Toney.

Even if X or Toney talk we still won't really know what happened. I mean if as I speculated yesterday Johnson leaving wasn't really his choice, he was basically told to get with the program or get out and he either chose or was forced to get out, then you certainly aren't ever going to hear that from Johnson or any of his "entourage".

So they forced them out after three full seasons? Took that long to decide they didn't fit?

What I found interesting was that Capel said the remaining team members weren't surprised by the departures. I think that told me all I needed to know.
Even if it's on them, it took them 3 FULL SEASONS to decide they don't like it here? The teams where bad, but hey, they where star players, averaging like 35 minutes a game on an ACC team.

I'm not going to get into what's being posted on the payboard, other than there was an incident between those two and Penny this week. And I believe coach that there's a huge sigh of relief those guys have moved on.

I don't know-Johnson's pretty immature and impulsive, so I'm not totally ruling out hearing something from him.

It’s tuff when Capel was in a bind when he was hired. He promised kids that were still left that had talent and all three thought they were the guy along with the parents and people. It was tuff coaching kids and parents that u have to talk to after every game. They had their chance. Capel learned a valuable lesson. Now it’s his way or the highway. Go get some stud transfers and move on.

Are they often hastily called, change the time at the last minute and have the HC show up in a T-Shirt with a worn collar look?

Capel has been benching them, publicly commenting on some of the issues (at least with X). Perhaps things were just worse this year and Capel disciplining them sent them over the edge. It sounds like the team is better off though.

Still hope those guys get their heads on straight and succeed somewhere else.

Remember he’s recovering from Covid .

I've said those 3 reminded me of Young and Artis for the last couple years. Most disagreed with me. Talented kids but low character

Well I agree we might hear something from one of them. But if we do, do you trust that it would be the truth? Or just a slanted version of it?

Glad you said that. I've been watching Penny's body language the past 5 or 6 games and keep seeing him sport a WTF look. As if he's wondering what on Earth X is doing. He barks at AKC a lot but in a way that is different. Like he's trying to coach him.

Total lack of comraderi between the big three.

In the entire press conference the names of Trey McGowens or Heather Lyke are never mentioned?

Great questions fellows.

No wonder no one learned anything.

Outside of Craig Meyer, everyone acted like nothing much wais going on. Most questions were garden variety as if was just another “press availability “.

The press conference was what happens when you have to say something, but there's nothing you can really say.

Capel wasn't going to air the program's dirty laundry. We know we need players for next year, more now than ever, but have none. No one cares about the next 4 games with no post season looming.

We've got a pig on our hands ladies and gentlemen, and we're fresh outta lipstick. Nothing more to say.

we have not had enough players with character since Jamie left. of course, team attitude is usually better when you win.

I want Capel to be successful. still, I don't like his attitude at the press conferences. He never seems to like talkinjg to reporters. it is an important part of the job. gets very defensive at any criticism. Having said that, it seems most college coaches are like that., I don't get it. relax and have some fun. act like you like the people asking questions and that you are proud of the university you represent,. that comment is not specific to Capel, Narduzzi is similar, I think. same with Stallings..

Chris, which Pitt coaches have you enjoyed spending time with and which do you dread having to ask questions to ?

Yet no press asked any questions about it?

Why would they ask a question that they already knew the answer to? You want to know if Capel has talked to Lyke. Since Lyke was in the meeting it is obvious that they have talked. What is there to ask about, assuming that you actually know what has happened (or at least some of it)?

"Have you talked to Heather Lyke yet about what is going on with the team?"
"Well yeah, clearly and obviously so."
"Oh, ah, well, OK."

Then the follow up...

Reporter - “what did you talk about”

Capel - “I’m not going to get into the details”

I get that as a reporter it’s their job to ask questions. But the real issue some are having is they want to know what happened. And there’s not a chance - as in ZERO - that’s going to happen. Not now, not tomorrow. Not next year.

Did she express any unhappiness with your performance? Did she provide you any direction? As a result of those discussions do you anticipate making any changes in the coaching s,taff?
