After 24 Games and record of just 14-10 with Weak Team Wins, looks like the pressures of running the Penn State Program is dominating the Dominator. Franklin has caused most of his problems by some of his prior comments and continued poaching of other Programs Verbal Commits Recruits that has reached coaching circles in ways he might not expect.

It is kind of refreshing Penn State Fans are in hopes and prays while doubting if the Coach can do the job as promised at Penn State. I say this because as Pitt Fans we went through many changes as Coaches kept changing, and now WVU & PSU Fans have a better understanding what happens when Coaches come and go along with Recruiting Classes or Coaches that cannot coach up Players into winning more games?

Meanwhile Articles on Pitt's Narduzzi unlike WVU and Penn State are being written how the coaching has changed Pitt in one year? One think about coaching once someone is paid over $4 million, they better coach because coaching can't be faked long in a zero-sim game?

In the wake of scalding social media criticism after last week's 28-16 loss to Michigan, Penn State coach James Franklin renewed his plea for patience Tuesday.

“Our expectations at Penn State are very high,” said Franklin, who has broached the subject before, going back to last season. (HOW MANY TIMES DO WE ALL HAVE TO HEAR IT OVER AND OVER???) “And our coaches and the players, we embrace that. (It's) one of things I probably love the most at Penn State. (SO FRANKY WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PROVE RESULTS TO MEET EXPECTATIONS?)

Where I think it's probably the biggest challenge is based on what we're working through and where we're at. I think that's the thing that makes it the most challenging.”(NOPE, TRY COACHING MORE THAN POACHING AND PREACHING WITH LESS WINS!)

That was a reminder of the lingering effect of NCAA sanctions that resulted in scholarship reductions and other penalties. Depth at certain positions remains an issue.(OH PLEASE, FRANKLIN TALKED ABOUT HOW THEY ARE REDUCED NOW AND HIS RECRUITING IS SKY HIGH, BUT HIS COACHING IS ON GROUND WATER LEVELS STUCK IN MUD!)

“To be honest with you, (WHEN ANYONE SAYS THIS PHRASE I JUST THINK WHAT ARE YOU HIDING AND WHY ARE YOU NOT HONEST ALL THE TIMES? THIS IS A SIGN OF SOMEONE THAT HIDES THINGS OR LACKS TRUE CONFIDENCE BUT PRETEND HE HAS IT!!!) ) we're about on schedule, in a lot of ways,” said Franklin, wrapping up his second season. “We could win nine games, 10 games and hope we're further ahead. (COULD IS A BIG WORD BUT NOT REALITY?) You're always going to feel that way. But in a lot of ways, in a lot of aspects, we're on schedule. We have a lot of work to do and we have got to get better.”(DOESN'T FRANKLIN KNOW THESE WORDS WILL BE QUOTED IF HE GOES 8-5 OR 7-6 AGAIN?)

Penn State (7-4, 4-2 Big 10) has lost its past two games, to Northwestern and Michigan, both nationally-ranked. Saturday, the Nittany Lions visit No. 6 Michigan State. A Spartans victory clinches the Big Ten East and a berth in the conference championship game Dec. 5 in Indianapolis.

“Are there quick fixes? No doubt about it,” Franklin said. “That first year, we could have went out and signed 15 junior college players. (GOOD COACHING UP ONE'S PLAYERS IS A QUICK FIX TOO!) This year, we could have went out and signed 15 junior college players. But I don't think myself or the administration or our fans want to do it that way. (COACHES THAT COACH DON'T WORRY WHAT FANS, ADMINISTRATION WANT, THEY JUST COACH TO WIN? AND THAT IS WHAT BOTH SCHOOL AND FANS WANT!!!) We want to build this thing the right way, (TRY WINNING? DUH!) for the long haul. And when you do that, it takes some time. There needs to be a little bit of patience. (HOW MANY MORE YEARS!) And for the most part, people understand that.” (SOMEONE IS OVER ESTIMATING THAT KIND OF PATIENCE???)

Franklin said he gets “some unbelievable (positive) emails” from fans. “People that are sending them to me? Please, keep sending ‘em,” he said. “ Because we get some really, really positive emails. (WHAT RECRUIT OR PLAYER THINKS THIS IS A SIGN OF CONFIDENCE IN A COACH OR WANTS TO PLAY FOR HIM?) Every time our guys go out and do something in the community, I get great emails.”(SO NOW YOU HAVE JUST TAKEN MORE FOCUS OFF OF COACHING AND WRITING EMAILS TO STRANGERS??? KEEP LOSING BECAUSE THAT IS A WAY TO GET EMAILS TOO FROM HATEFUL PENN STATE FANS AND PATERNO'S WITH FAKE EMAIL HANDLES?)

Even after what he calls a “challenging game,” the loss to Michigan, Franklin said he got an email that essentially read, “I had to wait 24 hours because I was emotional after the loss. But after 24 hours I get it, and I see what's going on, and we appreciate everything that the guys are doing and the coaches are doing.” (FRANKLIN TALKS LIKE A USED CAR SALESMAN SELLING SOMETHING NO ONE WILL BELIEVE BUT THE DUMBEST PERSON?) TRY REMEMBERING THE STATISTICS YOUR TEAM IS NOT NOT MAKING AND YOU ARE BURYING INSTEAD OF EMAILS QUOTES?)

“In a lot of ways, I think we're making tremendous progress,” he said. “It doesn't show up (WINK, WINK, IN WINS?) always the way everyone wants to see, in the win-loss column or the scoreboard, but that's coming. I feel very, very confident in that. For the most part, that's why I sleep pretty well.”(BUT PSU PAYING $4.5 MILLION AND FANS BEING UPSET ABOUT ARE NOT SLEEPING ON THAT CASH?)

Franklin acknowledged he did not sleep so well Saturday night. “The progress is there,” he said. “Sometimes you've got to step away and look at it.”(WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN, YOU JUST SAID YOU SLEEP WELL, BUT HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE NOW SAYING YOU ARE MAKING PROGRESS BUT CAN'T SLEEP WELL, AND LOSING? THIS GUY IS HAVING A PANIC ATTACK!)

Notes: Fifth-year senior defensive end Carl Nassib is one of three finalists for the Bednarik Award, which goes annually to the top defensive player, and the Burlsworth Trophy, given to the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.. ... Franklin on burning timeouts because of problems getting play calls in: “Haven't really had this issue in the five years I've been together with this staff, but I've made it very, very clear that those things are going to change.”(WELL, AFTER 5 YEARS THEY SHOULD BE CHANGED BY NOW??) NOW ONE KNOWS WHY OTHER COACHES LAUGH AT HIM, INSTEAD OF RESPECTING HIM, BUT THEY ALL WANT TO PLAY HIM SO THEY CAN WIN!)

I concur with your observation on the line "To be honest with you". My usual retort is "so you've been lying up until now".
Franklin has a big mouth. That will win many a battle.....but it has never won a war. The expectations at PSU are higher than those at Vandy. Following long time legends is tres difficult. UCLA hoops has struggled while it has the fertile recruiting of LA, Ohio State went 8-3 for a decade under Earl Bruce when the competition was not as fierce as it is now...I don't see PSU approaching elite status under Franklin nor the next guy....maybe never again.
But they will have good teams...don't know if that is enough for the Nit Wits....but we will find out over time.

Usually when someone asks for more time to complete a job they're actually in over their head and are actually looking for another job that suits them better.
Time will tell!

1. Who emails a coach to complain/compliment him on a game by game basis?
2. I think in some regard, he's not wrong about needing time. While he hasn't won anything substantial, I don't see this season as a complete failure for PSU.
3. The angst is very real.
4. Paterno would say a lot of the same things during a season like this and that was okay with the fan base. Perspective I guess.

That was a great retort!
I used the same way to retort Pederson Article or other Pitt Coaches like Harris, Wannstedt, Graham, and Chryst when they were being quoted and not doing the job at Pitt, and that is fair game for PSU Franklin that has an opinion on many subjects as well, and needs to establish better coaching. Same with WVU!

Some Posters think those subjects are not germane to the Lair, but i leave that up to the Monitors! I just feel Pitt is still compared to Penn state and WVU even today on manya spects of shared subject matter on CFB!

Franklin is now having to jibbers & jabbers his poor performance on coaching at Penn State and his talk and quotes are laughable instead of letting hi scoaching do hius talking?

Holgrosen sounded off last year saying he has his Team near Championship levels but couldn't prove it, and I have been just as hard on Harris, Wannstedt, Graham, and Chryst whne they did not produce as good as they claimed when they came to Pitt!

I respect Franklin bit the Penn State Program may be one step too high for him to compete on that level just like Pitt program in 1983 was the same for Pitt's beloved Foge Fazio that I very much supported until he proved he was a better DC than a Head Coach?

When a Coach goes to a Press conference to defend his coaching, he is fair game for everyone and anyone!

Thanks by the way, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Great response with Insight, and I quite agree, This really applies to Head Coaches that are paid to develop Winners or Lsoers in a Zero-Sum game, someone win and someone loses. Franklin has much explaining why his Team is actually worse this year than last year, since he had a far easier schedule this year? His Teams played UCF, OSU, Michigan far closer last year!

Franklin is doing way more on recruiting and Public Relations and not enough on Coaching, any kid can see it, and more importantly so do the Reporters?

Franklin brags about getting recruit and that how he will help them win, then they are not playing or being benched, or losing against better Teams, but beat the Dregs and he can't explain it except....Wait....????

Narduzzi comes in, like Dantonio, Meyer, and Harbaugh and just says we are here to change things and are happy with what we have and we will work together to be better together. Then go about Coaching not Public Adoration seeking???

No blaming the last 6 Years of changing coaches or lack of high recruiting classes that were just as bad as sanctions. Or how other Programs have more money and fans and support? Just pure outright doing their jobs and finding the Assistant coaches that making their Recruits, Players, Teams and Program better!

And everyone can see it, including Reporters and no one needs to ask more questions and Narduzzi does not need to explain or make excuses or predictions we will be better????

I see it as a test of character, when Franklin left Vanderbilt he took Recruits from them and other Programs, he did the same last year and doing this year as he goes after the QB that committed to VT? Are these guys playing and helping now? Was that character in a coach or just a poach to gain an edge?

Yet, when Narduzzi left MSU he said he would not take anyone away from MSU he recruited and just said at the end even after recruits went to Wisky, Penn State and elsewhere, we are happy with the Recruits that committed to Pitt and want to be at Pitt!

He went on to brings in Peterman and others that could transfer to Pitt with the opportunity to play to help Pitt! He has played his Freshmen and coach them up even as they made mistakes in Iowa, UNC and ND losses until they executed better?

This is how a great Coach responds with character, look at Cutcliffe and Petrino's responses, we just got flat out and beat? Narduzzi said the same in ND game when Pitt players let the team down on dropped passes, missed blocks, and bad decisions? Or I called a late time out against an Iowa Kicker that gave him a second chance, i won't let happen again, my mistake? Or, I wish we could play UNC again right now like we are playing now? Just admissions we made mistakes but exudes confidence not excuses!

Even in wins or losses Narduzzi talks about where they need to better, that is CHARACTER not Jibbing and Jabbering like Franklin squeals!

Agree, What a lame response by anyone let alone a Head Football coach to justify his poor coaching? Sounds like the Head of McDonald's saying I have people email me and say they like our food, they just are not buying it? Reporters actually had more questions but Penn State & BWI cut them off!

2. I think in some regard, he's not wrong about needing time. While he hasn't won anything substantial, I don't see this season as a complete failure for PSU.
It is against better Teams and Coaches. But your comment is fair too! They at last found Barkley but Is aw that last year before they did anyway, and I am not a coach? The OL is worse than in 2014! The defense is still good but can't do it all just like Chryst's teams had offenses but not Defenses? Special teams stink worse this year than last at Penn State!

3. The angst is very real.
Ditto! Especially with Great Recruits sitting on the Bench that would be Playing at Pitt under Narduzzi, or Harbaugh, Meyer, and Dantonio!

4. Paterno would say a lot of the same things during a season like this and that was okay with the fan base. Perspective I guess.
Disagree in part, Paterno walked to work at 6AM, stayed and went back for lunch or dinner and back at until 10 PM on Game Day Week Preparation, and then went on the Recruiting and Dinner Circuit! No one outworked Paterno on preparing his teams on any week.

During the Penn State Two Week Michigan Preparation, Franklin took off on recruiting talking to fans and answering emails, and he Players were not ready for a Harbaugh team that barely beat Indiana and had only one week to be ready AT PENN STATE?

It is about Coaching not Public Relations or Poaching! Talk is Cheap Actions are tough! I thought Franklin would be a Great Coach at Penn State and I was wrong.

Franklin will make the Lions 8 to 9 game Winners ins ome yaers, but he will struggle against better coaches at MSU, Michigan, OSU and soon at UMD, Rutgers if they choose wisely? And Oh, by the way, PITT too! Narduzzi & Staff will have his Players ready for Franklin next year, book it Dano!

MSU Dantonio did not have his QB for the OSU or now PSU games, we shall see the difference in coaching, soon this week, in how Franklin has his Team ready, they should give MSU a very tough game, but we shall see??

Capt Sid....Serious Pitt question for you. Are you and other Pitt fans concerned about Coach Narduzzi's future in Pittsburgh with all the coaching turnover that will take place in the very near future? Coach Narduzzi has done an excellent job to date, better than the last two Pitt coaches who have bailed for "bigger" positions. I hope he stays at Pitt. I'm one of those rare PA football fans who would like to see both Penn State and Pitt have very successful programs. If Coach Narduzzi would get offered and accepted a job at another school, it would only add fuel to the fire (and there is at least some talk out there) that Pitt is a stepping stone program for coaches rather than a destination program. I would hate to see that happen. As one of the primary posters on this board who always offers well-reasoned opinions, I would be interested in your thoughts.

Any thoughts on Ruhle going somewhere like Rutgers, Virginia, or Minnesota?

I just don't get the Rutgers chatter. Why would he take such a step down? I don't see the other two either, but they would certainly be more likely. I'm hearing Golden for Virginia (you may recall he was a coordinator there when Temple hired him).

Rutgers is a poor program in a better conference as compared to Temple. Also a better recruiting situation. Given some time, a good coach would take Rutgers to a consistently higher level than Temple is likely to achieve. Consistent is my main point. Ruhle has been outstanding, but will Temple be able to maintain that once he leaves to greener pastures?

"Safety Blitz, post: 555866, member: 7179"]Capt Sid....Serious Pitt question for you. Are you and other Pitt fans concerned about Coach Narduzzi's future in Pittsburgh with all the coaching turnover that will take place in the very near future?
I am not, but I am by no means an expert on that question. I think Narduzzi really wanted the Pitt Job and no other, just like Wannstedt! Yet, after reading when he came to Pitt he talked about his Father loving the Youngstown-Pittsburgh area, but if Narduzzi is has good as many think, and i am grateful they corrected me last year, he may not be able to turn down some Dream Jobs???

However, with that said, I would find that a Coach that went to live with his Players in a dorm for a week would not leave them, that is out of character for a guy like Narduzzi!

Narduzzi has great character as one knows by not poaching other recruits when he got the pit Job! I really think he is a Pittsburgh guy and I am relying on Jim Tressel when Tressel said, I think Pitt found their Coach that will stay at Pitt a long time!

Coach Narduzzi has done an excellent job to date, better than the last two Pitt coaches who have bailed for "bigger" positions. I hope he stays at Pitt. I'm one of those rare PA football fans who would like to see both Penn State and Pitt have very successful programs.
Agree, my dream before I become a permanent Organ Donor is to see Pitt win another NCS, and I would love seeing Pitt, WVU, Penn State, and Notre Dame in the CFB Playoff!

I would hate to see that happen. As one of the primary posters on this board who always offers well-reasoned opinions, I would be interested in your thoughts.
I accept facts and not being disloyal but factual. Pitt has been a Stepping Stone Program ever since Doc Sutherland retired after Pitt Chancellor Bowman ended Athletic Scholarships. Foge Fazio was selected to be at Pitt a long time and a Pitt Alumnus but was not a Good Head Coach, just like I think Franklin is starting to show?

Still, even Johnny Majors and Jackie Sherrill did the "Pitt Two Step" to their Admittedly Personal and Professional Regrets, but I don't think Coach Pat Narduzzi Dances???

Just my guess not gospel, and believe it or not I see Coach Pat Narduzzi cut from the same Italian mold as Joe Paterno in many ways! He is fearless, focused on his job, confident he knows Football, watches his Players as they play the games, coaches them up even on the sidelines, with quick wit to handle the Press, and Great Head CEO Coach that demands excellence from his Assistants, teaches execution in his Players, creates Great Game Plans that on Game Day, his Players finish Plays in Games plus never Quitm and most of all improves his Players into better Teams as the season progresses along!

One Caveat....the Joe Paterno that was in his 40's, 50s and 60s, not 70s and 80s when he got to old to know when to quit and without the underhanded practices and Bravado Paterno used to attack his competitors and some tactics he used to gain an edge, plus not following all the rules and then turning in others that he suspected were not either? Joe was never a Saint, Penn State Cultists did that to him and still think so, that ended up ruining his legacy and leaving his Football Program in chaos, and brought shame to Penn State Name, but Narduzzi does not have that hypocrisy in him, as I can see? He is truly another Top Italian Coach like Lombardi, Pitino, Izzo, Gagliardi, Harbaughs-(Mother Half-Sicilian), Parcells, and Petrino!

Just A Hunch!

Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. His ties to the area could keep him there for a while. And, if he can build enough success, he could be a long-term solution for Pitt. The urban setting (better suited for hoops than football) and the lack of on-campus facilities make it difficult for Pitt IMO. And the WPIAL ain't what it used to be. If Coach Narduzzi is willing to continue to fight those battles and remain in the area, he could have Pitt on a steady upward trajectory. It will be interesting to watch.

Back at you!:) and Thank you!

His ties to the area could keep him there for a while. And, if he can build enough success, he could be a long-term solution for Pitt.
I will disagree in part, because College Football has changed due to the Coaches making millions more than anyone on campuses???

First, I still think the Days of Long Term Coaches at Today's Universities making Millions, no longer have Job Security. Look at VT, Beamer is gone after mediocre last 5 years. LSU and UGA want to fire a 10 Win Game Coach almost every year? Iowa was tired of 17 Year Ferentz until this year? Texas dumped their Coach.

Second, CFB Coaching is demanding in time hours and younger mans job, during and off season, all year long. anyone getting sick like Pinkle, Meyer, and Kill have to give it up until they get well!

Third, only a handful of Schools will keep you winning 8 to 9 games a year and get fewer every year. They are Northwestern, UVA, GT, Duke, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Stanford, UA, Wake Forest, Temple, UCincy, KSU, ISU, Indiana, Cal, Kentucky, Minnesota, Purdue, Maryland and Rutgers to a lesser extent.

The urban setting (better suited for hoops than football) and the lack of on-campus facilities make it difficult for Pitt IMO.
All true, but it can be done with a Great coach that wins and stays and has been done at Pitt, UCLA, USC, TCU, SMU, Miami! But Programs are harder to build than Teams!

And the WPIAL ain't what it used to be.
Great Coaches just need 2 to 3 Players making big plays along with 4 to 6 Plays that win games. Pitt is right there with USC, Miami, ND, Texas, and OSU in finding those Players as those Schools. If Foster, Henry, Simmons, all would have stayed home nearer to Pitt, Pitt would have the talent to win against Iowa, UNC and even ND in my opinion.

If Coach Narduzzi is willing to continue to fight those battles and remain in the area, he could have Pitt on a steady upward trajectory. It will be interesting to watch.
Well, he is here and willing is not Narduzzi Problem in my opinion, he will win at Pitt period, and if Recruits cannot see it, that is on them, not Narduzzi! Narduzzi is the Real Deal, and most Experts can see it! I did not know about him, and I thank UPitt'89 and NCPanther and Dr. Juhl that knew and found him!

I needed this year to watch him and studying him, I know and follow Great Football Coaches, I make bets on them, and PITT IS IT for Coach Pat & Pitt Fans!

THIS ITALIAN RENAISSANCE MAN CAN COACH!:D:p:cool::)

Any thoughts on Ruhle going somewhere like Rutgers, Virginia, or Minnesota?

Oh, Sid, speaking of Rutgers, I was just surfing their board (where I go every now and then for comic relief). Guess who they think the hot candidate for their job is. Italian fellow, from Youngstown, second generation coach . . . currently at a school in Western Pennsylvania with a very tall building on its campus.

Great post with added insight, Penn State has a Great Program built on paterno great coaching but also built on Nittany Lies about other programs and Universities while not obeying all the Rules and Compliances, just like UNC, Kansas, and UCLA Basketball.

Yet, Paterno's biggest mistake was not hiring Sandusky and then not making sure he was removed after he knew for the second time he may have a problem under investigations.....Paterno's Confusion on what to do was understandable and I am not defending or justifying it, just pointing out the other side of it. No Real Man including Gay Men talk about having sex with children, anyone bringing up that subject brings chills in most men.....and even worse, back then most would not know hat to do to be fair, but times have changed and we all now we have to report it!

No, Joe biggest mistake and legacy that will bedevil and be a obstacle to Penn State Winning Football Games and Championships, was joining the Big Ten and not considering the ACC? Sure, PSU will make great money in the Big Ten but at the costs of less wins. I said it on BWI and was banned for it! I was right then and right now and I also said Joe needed to go, and I was right then in 1998, and right now!

Penn State would have dominated the ACC with FSU and the ACC was perfect being nearer to Penn State One Day Drive, Massive RV Traveling Fans, selling out all ACC Stadiums with better access to Southern growing recruiting grounds and North East & Midwest than the Big Ten?

Big Ten Bigger Universities and Programs in OSU and MICHIGAN have dominated Penn State, and Grtaert Coaches are at MSU, Iowa, NU, Wisky, NW, and soon Maryland and Rutgers if they find Great Coaches turn Joe's Top Ten Program into Zero Championships and only Top 20 Winning, and it happen under Joe too?

Now the Penn State Scandal has continued more chaos still years ahead and will be humbled further. It is still a Top 3 Program in the Big Ten but winning on Third Tier Status in the Big Ten! Franklin won't even match Joe's best years from 1998-2010 and those were fewer for Too Old Joe too!

Heck, My Uncle a Pitt Grad that adores Paterno and Penn State thinks that too? But Narduzzi may consider MSU or another Program, but not those two anytime. I just think Coach Pat has the character to stay at Pitt at least 10 years. The next 4 in taking over, and then the next 4 after all his Recruits he will be Coaching. he is not in it for a quick fix and hit to make more millions, he is like Dantonio, I am happy to build what I build at MSU and Coach Pat is Happy at Pitt to do the same! he is 45 minutes from Youngstown!

In fact, Coach Pat is looking forward to taking on and beating Penn State just like he did against Michigan!

I used to go on Rutgers Boards and they hated Penn State but then they got into the Big ten and came over and ripped on Pitt, why go where no one can learn anything! But I am glad you go to keep all of us informed, and thank you, but Narduzzi won't head to Rutgers in his lifetime! Nor Penn State that my Uncle wants him paid $7 million to get him? They are absolutely crying about Franklin!

Article & Link!

Agree, but he has talent right now and can't coach them up! I can't see him winning more than 8 or 9 games in most years at best, and that won't satisfy the Nittany Lions Fan Base for long!

The next sign I look for is that Franklin will be too stubborn to cut some of his Staff that have let him down, in my opinion. Most Coaches do not like to do that or be forced to do it. Holgrosen resisted a long time but he had to do it.

UVA's London made changes but London has done great in recruiting but needed time to find a QB, and then he had one of the toughest OOC Schedule of all FBS Teams, and just missed some Bowls by 5-7 records. Many think he may be fired, but I am not sure. I think if he beats VT, he may get another year!

How Franklin responds if he loses this week and his Bowl Game will speak volumes because the way he is responding now, he looks he is in a panic?

If Pitt's Narduzzi & Staff beats him all 4 years and I can see that happening that will upset many PSU Fans as well. The one thing Pitt Narduzzi has done that is way overlooked is the Staff he hired works great together with him and his players on coaching them all up as well as conditioning.

Franklin's Staff seem more bent on more recruiting than coaching, and both are laid to sleep thinking it is just a Talent/Experience problem, but it is coaching.

Franklin is not loyal or grateful to his past schools like Maryland and Vanderbilt and that shows how he poaches their players and he has lied to his previous players when it suit him as the Depositions on the Vandy Rape Trials point out.

Franklin is also having Academic & Integrity Compliance Problems and that has not come fully out right now. At Vandy, Franklin did create a Vandy Women Greeting Team and when asked if that is OK by some women, he says every Schools did it? So, he may be prone to making more mistakes like that can catch up with him.

However, Franklin brags about having one of the longest Staffs with him, and that won't change. Many new coaches make changes if the job in winning is not getting done.

We shall see for these small signs at the end of season and I have long ears at Penn State, UVA, & WVU, ND, and USC from good sources!

I enjoy discussing CFB with you and and understand where you are coming from, and just wanted to be more specific to your questions and answers. I hope you Post much more and don't worry if we agree to disagree, that is how we all share to learn. I agree with you. The Days of 20 years may be behind for all reasons all Posters said above and you and me?

I can see so far that Briles at Baylor and Patterson at TCU don't seem to unhappy at all, and have not left for higher programs. Look what has happen to Charlie Strong to date?

One of these days I am going to do a Comparison between the Top Programs that have many more Resources like revenues, Attendance, Boosters Money, Recruiting camps & Invites, High School Coaching Clinics, Bigger Rosters, Higher Coaches Salaries and many more advantages.

Compare them to Smaller Programs that have won in the last Ten Years in the top 20 like Boise, TCU, BYU, WVU, & ULou, but that really needs 5 Year comparison since All power conferences have been formed and that really just started in 2013 and 2014!

Happy Thanksgiving!

One other thing not mentioned is how Coaches that are Old School or Politically Incorrect no longer are tolerated in spit of winning.

Al Groh the Former UVA Head Coach was dismissed eventually after he had a practice of giving a Baloney Sandwich to one player that made a big mistake or did not play his best in game. When a Player refused to eat it in front of the Team, he was let go. That led to Groh's downfall along with remarks on Arabs!

Mark Mangino at Kansas had a bad habit of using fear and intimidation combined with racial remarks demeaning to get more out of his players, that was not tolerated along with alleged verbal abuse and negative behavior toward campus staff traffic tickets. and accused of boorish and violent actions. Mangino was fired this year by Rhoads that got fired last week?

Leach was suspended and fired at Texas Tech for alleged inappropriate treatment of Adam James that had a concussion and told to stand by the equipment room for not playing or practing. He was hired by WSU and doing well again but he learned his lesson!

Sarkisian was let go after numerous public drunkenness and Pat Haden took responsibility by saying he should have done a better background check because that happen at Washington before he was hired at USC?

In any event, being a Head college football coach can be great but most of the time it is a hard job dependent on many things and just 4 to 5 plays a game can beat you and few losing seasons or less winning at Big Programs can be tougher as Franklin is finding out?

Jimmy has two more games to set it right and all of next year, but another 7-5 season next year will not be pretty to deal with if Franklin cannot beat Top Teams?

1. Who? Come on this is Penn State we are talking about. The culture of football is their culture.
2. Disagree in the fact that he had 8 home games and 2 neutral site games. Even Temple which beat them, PSU has more talent. This was a year for them to "steal" a 9-3 and make it seem like JF is making progress. And remember, even some of their wins, against a bad Army team with a backup QB, against Indiana who was without their star RB and down to their 3rd string QB, they still struggled.
3. This is true. I am wondering if the angst would have been so real if Franklin came in less bombastic and full of braggadocio and instead, tried to focus the fan base that this will take time. Instead, they chose to "dominate".
4. Paterno also had a track record.

"recruitsreadtheseboards, post: 558035, member: 2328"]1. Who? Come on this is Penn State we are talking about. The culture of football is their culture.
Excellent Post! They hired Franklin because they were taken with his dynamic personality and if you ever meet him, he is hard not to like. I can see why he is recruiting in the Top 25, 15 and now 10 these past 3 years. I can see some PSU Fans embrace that kind of personality too, but they are looking at recruiting not coaching?

2. Disagree in the fact that he had 8 home games and 2 neutral site games. Even Temple which beat them, PSU has more talent. Again, superb insight and if you include last year close wins and lucky injuries they had to face against other Team, they barely won 7 games this and last year, when they should have won at least 9 or 10 like you say?

3. This is true. I am wondering if the angst would have been so real if Franklin came in less bombastic and full of braggadocio and instead, tried to focus the fan base that this will take time. Instead, they chose to "dominate".
Franklin knows how to recruit and always has as well as making his Program gain more talent, he did that at Vandy. Yet, he uses words and terms and thinks he has toe xplain things when he can't show on the field, making up for his prior inabilities of not producing within his players and game day coaching with consistent improvements. He loses more games towards the end of the season then early and blaming sanctions, a young team, but not his coaching against Winning Teams Coaches?

4. Paterno also had a track record.
This part of the problem, Paterno wa soften out recruited by other Programs including Pitt, Bama, OSU, Miami ND, UTenn, and others in the 1970s and 80s, but still could find and coach up his players and win late in games. Franklin is not showing it. However Narduzzi is showing he can coach up and MSU Dantonio misses Coach Pat as well!

Paterno in 1967 when he took over lost 3 games, and decided to dump his starters and juniors and seniors and juts play his underclassman and after that year they went 31-0!

It takes time to figure out when and whom to play based on how they are playing, but Franklin & Staff are having a problem unlike Harbaugh, Meyer, Dantonio, Fitzgerald and Narduzzi!

Great posts and insights Owtie, Happy Thanksgiving!
