Psu at Pitt Baseball

I'm not clueless about it but sure there are people who know more. What I do know is we haven't made the NCAAT in 30 years and the few times we have been on the bubble during that time, late April/May losses to lower D1 teams have kept us out. Why play them? Play D2 or D3 teams. Or play someone better. Or get in a bus a drive to VCU or Michigan or some place like that (using an example, those teams may suck but hopefully you understand my point). What Pitt is doing isnt working.

A couple things:

1.) Baseball is already one of the most time demanding sports given the nature of 3 game series every weekend. Midweek games are going to be played against teams within 2-4 hours of you. And the closer the better.

2.) Pitt is expecting to beat the schools like Oakland when they schedule them.

3.) It is hard to win at Pitt. You’re acting like Pitt is some laughingstock right now. If there was an offer out there to guarantee a coach could have Pitt on the bubble for the next 15 years straight, you’d take that deal in a heartbeat and sign the contract yesterday.

Are there no better programs within 4 hours than Oakland? Why cant we go on the road midweek? Would it be that huge of a deal to go play like a decent SoCon team for a Tuesday/Wednesday series? How bout Kentucky? Is Marshall any good? James Madison? Liberty? I dont know these teams but there has to be some decent programs around

What are you talking about? The issue isn’t the strength of schedule, holy hell. It’s losing the games. Whether it’s losing midweeks to Oakland, Penn State, WVU, or whoever you’re saying. Losing OOC games hurts you when you’re overachieving to finish .500 in conference play in the best league in the country.

Maybe we miss this guy:

The schedule really isn’t the issue. Their strength of schedule is 40th and will get better after this weekend. The issue is pitching depth. They just don’t have it and it’s difficult to get. Missing out on the tournament sucks. Unless they win 4 or 5 more games their likely out again. They deserved to make it last year but got screwed. The fact that Bell has them on the doorstep 2 straight years is a huge accomplishment for the program. They just need to take the next step by continuing to upgrade the talent. Baseball is the hardest coaching position at the school IMO.
You are right on the mark. Bell has done a very good job. We’ve been dealt a rash of injuries this year. If you add 1 more good pitcher or take away all the injuries, then that would equate to us being in the tournament. Unfortunately, we are on the outside looking in but that doesn’t take away from the big picture of Bell doing a good job.

1 more good pitcher? Really?

Why cant we go on the road midweek?

We scheduled five mid-week road games. And that doesn't include the two games at PNC Park.

Just to put that into some perspective for you, here are the number of mid-week road games by the up to the minute RPI top ten:

Tennessee - 0 (and 1 neutral site game)
Oregon State - 2 (and 1 neutral site game)
Vanderbilt - 0 (and 2 neutral site games that were played in Nashville but not on campus)
Auburn - 3 (and 3 neutral site games, all six of those games were played in Alabama)
Virginia Tech - 5 (no neutral site games, four of the five were in Virginia and the fifth was at Marshall)
Georgia Southern - 6 (and one neutral site game)
Georgia - 3 (and 3 neutral site games)
Dallas Baptist - 6 (and one neutral site game)
Maryland - 6 (no neutral site games)
Louisville - 3 (no neutral site games)

In short, we go on the road every bit as often and more than most.

A good third starter or closer. Either way we would have about 4 more victories.
Yeah, a third starter would have meant that you bump Evans to be the midweek guy, which I think is where he’s better suited. Then you’ve got Bautista coming out of the bullpen along with Kennedy (and Dragani) instead of messing around with them as midweek starters, and maybe a guy like Bautista ends up at the back of the bullpen considering his stuff is good.

I know from personal experience pitching in college that this should never happen. Watching this brought tears to my eyes especially since it was PSU. That made it even harder to watch!
