19-18 in Tempe. PSU forfeited the 184 pound match, and that was the difference. They have some holes in their lineup this year, but the fact that so many teams have top wrestlers taking Olympic redshirts should help them repeat.

They will have a tough time. Iowa is going all in to get it back this year. They are not using Olympic redshirts. A lot will be determined by how healthy the teams are. More than anyone, Penn State is able to peak at the right time. It should be a very interesting team battle.
Many were disappointed and some even scratched their heads when the two Franklin Regional/WPIAL kids, Maruca and Shields, committed there. I checked the box score. Maruca won his match, while Shields lost a 7-4 decision to fellow WPIAL wrestler Vincenzo Joseph.
I will add my 2 cents. Iowa should have 10 all Americans this year. I think they have 5-6 guys ranked in to 4. They should be tough, but Iowa has not had a good NCAA tourney in many years. They seem to falter somewhat and not have their wrestlers go above their seeding very often.

PSU had holes at 125 and 149 coming into the season but expected more out of 197. The interesting thing is they have Beard at 197 who has beaten Conel in the room and would be at minimum an AA this year.
