Psu noon kickoff

If it's a nice hot & humid day hopefully our oline can beat up and weaken their dline and gash them.

Blame the Pirates all you want, but this game had Noon on ESPN written all over it from the time it was announced 5 years ago.

You think PSU is playing a home game against Pitt at noon next year? I'll bet you my left pinky that 3:30 is the EARLIEST kickoff for the game next year in Happy Valley.

F the buccos. I hope they are eliminated by September and they get dropped from whatever TV coverage they have that night. Buccos suck and I would be happy if they left the city.

Big Ten is on FOX in 2017-18. PSU and Delaney will work with FOX to ensure Pitt/PSU is a night game. Trust me.

That only half of the contract. The other half will be on another network. I think it will end up being a night game on the BTN.

I always do round trip. 14 hr days.

Wow! What's the use, that can't be much fun. I guess you can't drink at all? If all you're doing is watching the game, might as well watch it on TV. Why bother going if it isn't a party in addition to a game?

I've done same day round trip to south bend as well as Lexington (Pitt hoops game) while drinking heavily. I don't recommend it..

I refuse to drive from Squirrel Hill to the stadium while drinking, I got a DUI in the '90s, since then, NEVER consider drinking and driving. Now if someone else was driving, and I could sit in the back and drink beer, that's a different story.

Do the Pirates and steelers ever conflict over starting times on Sunday's
No
MLB releases schedule, then NFL. Steelers request to be away those weekends.
MLB mostly the problem. Schedules made years ahead of time.
Combine that with cfb setting a lot of dates and worse kick times late and Pitt f'd flexibility wise.
Pitt could have asked Bucs to be away for these long ago scheduled psu games (nobody knows if they did) and Bucs could ask mbl (nobody knows if they did) if enough notice. Even still, mlb could say can't accommodate (nobody knows if they did).
And even then, if pitt/buc conflict- Pitt could ask bucs to flip to 1235 (nobody know if they did) if ESPN gives early enough notice (like now) to commit to a prime time slot( nobody knows if they did). And still, bucs could decline if say fireworks (nobody know if they did)
How's that?

Pitt79 you already have made it clear drinking is more important than the game

It is, If I want to just sit and see football, why put forth the effort of a long drive to have a worse view, my 52" TV in the basement is a better view than in the stadium! AND I can get a 6 pack for the price of one beer in downtown Pittsburgh. If I'm going to all that hassle, I want more than just to see a football game! I want a party, drinks, commraderie! I'm not driving 7 hours to get to a seat , watch a game for 3 and then drive 7 hours again to hop into bed, that's a ridiculous waste of a day.

you bring up a good point. If you eliminate the post/pre game festivities and just compare the live game experience with watching it on tv, why the hell go. Now whether you like to pound a few 6 packs or not, most people just don't go to game just for the game. Its the whole experience..

You miss a lot when going to game.. It's why I dvr the game as well. Watching it on tv, you get to see who's playing well, how the line is looking, who is picking up the blitzer.. When you are at game, you aren't watching the line, you aren't watching the fullback pick up the blitzer, you're pounding smuggled in cheap rum and trying not too be obvious checking out the 18 year old coeds wearing tight jean shorts and every once in awhile, watching the game, following the ball..

If there ever was a time when the Pirates accommodated Pitt, that boat has sailed. Now that they are a Big Deal World Series Contender (Insert October joke here), the Bucs are going to do what's best for them. Asking the Pirates to be away or work around Pitt home dates is unrealistic, especially so in the context of a team that figures to be in a pennant race for the foreseeable future. The Pirates never schedule a true early afternoon Saturday game any more. Sundays and the occasional weekday draw the kiddie crowd -- unless of course TV wants a 4pm or 8pm slot, then damn the urchins. No, Saturday Night's alright for drinkin' an' Yinzerin' and fahrwerks at *** Park.

Pitt didn't move the 1992 Notre Dame game to the afternoon to avoid a conflict with a Pirates playoff game. (And yes the venues were at opposite ends of the City.) I got a really surly reaction from an athletic department admin when I asked if Pitt would be moving the kickoff time. "We're playing our game as scheduled." I missed Rocket Ismael run all over Pitt. The Bucs lost. That was the last time I chose a Pirate game over a Pitt game.

Even if the Buccos were out of town that weekend the game would kick off at noon. ESPN will most likely spread the Power 5 match-ups across the mothership time slots, with ABC, ESPN2 & U getting the Power 5 vs. non-Power 5 and 1AA schools.

Noon - PSU @ Pitt
3:30 - NC @ Illinois
8:00 - Tennessee vs. VT at Bristol Speedway
10:30 - Virginia @ Oregon

ESPN also will have to stick Kentucky @ Florida or South Carolina @ Mississippi in there too.

Are we the only fanbase that complains this much about everything?
Seems that way.
I'm not a dipola fan, but I loved how he just slammed the whiners in his blog post. Certainly, Steelers fans seem ok with almost every game being a 1pm start. And I'd love to see some of the folks here live in the Midwest with their 11am starts.

Only real difference for me....at least with tailgating...is whether I make eggs and sausage, or hot dogs and hamburgers.

I don't understand what's wrong with trying to get what you want, instead of just keeping your mouth shut and accepting whatever they throw at you?

That's what's wrong with America, people are ashamed to complain about things that aren't what they'd want them to be, just shut up and go along.

No it's because this fan base complains over stupid stuff.

Stadiums, uniforms, coaches, athletic directors, etc aren't stupid. It's why one school fires a guy who the fans realize is not good at his job, and Pitt hires him.

The difference comes in understanding which things you might actually change through your bitching and which things won't change if you bitch about them nonstop for months. This is one of those second things.

I'll grant you coaches, but everything else is either stupid or done in a stupid manner.

No, other fan bases would complain more and demand better across the board.
Yea and you know how certain fans of programs get their point across, they spend $$$$$$$$...Now I realize this point is so far over your head you cannot see it but................

That's your problem. They truth is you can change anything, if you keep pounding away at it. You think for example 20 years ago, that gay marriage would be legal and accepted? Or gay soldiers? Back in the '80s, when they started limiting where people where allowed to smoke, everyone said this will never fly. But people just kept pushing and pushing and whining and complaining and never, ever shut up and all kind of things change. Look at Bernie Sanders for another example, even 2 years ago you think anyone would have expected a person who openly calls himself socialist to sell himself to 45% of the Democratic primary electorate? No way! But he just kept shouting, yelling, screaming his positions until they started to be accepted by some. Sure he'll lose THIS TIME, but maybe next time someone else will keep yelling the same previously "unacceptable stuff" over and over until it's accepted.

We've been bitching about noon kickoffs for 15 years at least on these boards and nothing has changed other than the narrative. Back in the day we were told, "we polled our fans and they preferred noon" and now we are simply told "television dictated..."

Truly, we can get better kick off times, even with no change in the current system at all. There is a way. Just become a top 10 team in the hunt for a playoff spot and the time slots will get better.

People don't want to spend money if they believe it will be wasted.
