Nothing official yet, but from browsing the Tennessee forums this deal seems to be close. If Shoop leaves, this has to change things in regards to Hudson and Hamlin - not to mention the relationships he has built for 2017 with guys that we will also be going after. I'd imagine a lot of commits would start to question their decisions after the DC bolts a month before signing day. Franklin is crumbling and has to be feeling his seat getting warmer and warmer.

Don't worry the Nitters will employ Nitter Reverse Logic to explain this to recruits.
In other words they'll lie and decieve the recruits remember they're Nitters.

uhoh...jimmy franks would have to break in two new coordinators. Another one of his co-defensive coordinators already interviewed and was a finalist for another job. The apologists will tell you that this of course should buy about 4 extra years before you can properly evaluate jimmy's job status. Normal people would say it is the sign of a sinking ship

I have no idea if he wants to leave, but it was curious that he has been rumored to TN for awhile now even though their DC was still in place. Now that the DC is gone, it makes you wonder if perhaps there isn't some truth to the rumor.
Its not the end of the world for them if he goes, but its not good either. Recruiting class will be hurt, and its hard to imagine that he will get someone as good at this late date.

He is in demand. He recently turned down auburn at 1.5M....but that is where DC's go to die under Gus.

If he leaves, jimmy has plenty of cash to hire somebody.

I read some stuff on this today. He turned down 1.5 to go to LSU and Auburn, but would actually make less at UT than he does now. Not only that, but he said only two weeks ago he would only go for a head job. Soooo, I'm thinking no way someone makes a lateral move for less pay.

Then I went to the UT site and some insider there said to the UT folks to "expect an under the radar hire". Who knows, but if I had to bet the rent, I think he stays at PSU.

I don't think Shoop will leave
He might...wife loves TN but he has already turned down LSU and Alburn to the tune of 1.5M.
JF might not be able to coach, remains to be seen, but he does a great job having all coaches involved with each individual recruit.
Coaches leaving are a part of the game, hell it happens everywhere. Sanders didn't back out of Pitt due to a coaching change he used it as an excuse
IMO most kids pick schools for the school not the coach.

As noted on another board, Shoop has his home in
Tennseess and has rented in state college. Just information and food for thought.

I think someone confused him with Herb Hand. Shoop's family moved to State College and bought a house there.

You know what else should be discussed is Pitt's search for an offensive coordinator. This is the PANTHERlair right...

We know narduzzi is going to get it right. Currently it's fun to watch that joke of a program in centre County implode

Pitt's OC hire has been much discussed. PSU's DC possibly leaving is relevant to Pitt.

But if he leaves, it's a massive overstatement to say their program is imploding. BWI posters said the same thing about Pitt when Chaney left, and that was nonsense too

I wouldn't say "massive overstatement" and I wouldn't say "imploding", either. But remember that they also fired the OC, which would mean they have to replace both coordinators and break in a new QB.

That's a smart move on their part. I'm sure they wouldn't want their kids to be children of the corn.

Nitter beat writer just tweeted herb hand and shoop room together in state College and both families live back in Tennessee

Wow, John, that's really surprising to hear IMHO. I thought this was all just chatter.

Really a lot of smoke to make this just mere chatter. What I was thinking if this is real (meaning interest) well a lot of times, you know since LSU courted him last year, if this is another year, another serious suitor sometimes as an employer you just got to say "hey, you wanna go, go, we aren't upping your salary anymore".

Recruits I agree 100% with you.He got a raise last year and is out looking again this year if I'm his head coach I tell him go.You can't have someone on your staff that's looking every year, especially for lateral jobs.Interviewing for a HC job is different.I don't know if Franklin told him pack your sh..and get but I would!Got to have loyal assistants doing what's best for the team not what's best for yourself.

Franklin may be pissed, but no way no how, does he show Shoop the door. However, I am sure IF he leaves, that will be the reason put forth.

I hear he they made a deal for him to stay thru signing day, in exchange he'd get a bonus. James not happy that it's become as public as it has, may push him out sooner because of it.

Billy do you work for the CIA?Just kidding but I dont think that will happen. If he's gone it will be next week.Tenn needs a DC for their own recruiting. If your paying a million and a half for someone you want him there.Really I don't think any of the recruits are going to PSU because of Shoop.Just like I don't think Pitt lost anyone when Donavon left.Sanders was just blowing smoke in my opinion. But hey what do it know I'm a poor, old retired school teacher!

Med, it's a fairly common practice.

In any event, Shoop in demand and by some Programs that pay as much or more PSU, and now that Donovan is gone, a right offer in the right Program could lure Shoop away. It is not sinkhole right now, but there are cracks showing up, among those at that expected more at Penn State, not too far from what happen at Pitt under the Gallagher Changes when it came to select and find the right people to advance the Program compared to what is not being considered satisfactory? Former Players and Contributors were behind this change too.

President Barron knows how to change Football Coaches from his experiences at FSU! Former Penn State Players, Contributors and a divided Trustees, PS4RS, are preparing to ready to make a change, to bring back one of their own, like Michigan brought back Harbaugh!

Franklin says he needs time, but no one said he would get it!

Now would be a good time for Shoop to leave. The Nits lose a lot on defense, and if he ever wants to be a head coach again, at some point he probably needs to move on and do his thing somewhere else for another HC besides Franklin.

Tennessee has a lot of good young talent on that side of the ball. Butch Jones severed ties with a coach that had been with him for several years dating back to his Central Michigan days. So obviously, he's targeting someone & Shoop appears to be that guy. That would mean that he most likely has blank check to offer Shoop and would probably match at least the $1.5 mil that LSU was going to pay last year. The coach that is on his way out at Tennessee only made a paltry $500,000.

This would appear to be a good move for Shoop. However, its not without some risk. Butch is going into year 4. He's done a great job rebuilding the program, but with the SEC East currently in shambles, and the Gators playing in Knoxville, anything less than a SEC East title are going to have the natives restless. Outback Bowls & Taxslayer Bowl victories over pathetic Big 10 opponents are only going to pacify people for so long.

If most kids pick a school and not coaches, how do you explain Alabama being a 6-6 team before Saban and getting top recruits after. Oregon not in the discussion before Kelly now a top destination. Mississippi State with the top class (who looks forward to playing in Mississippi). Kids absolutely go to schools for the coaches.

That's kind of what I am thinking. I think Shoop really enjoys being at PSU, being a PSU kid. But he essentially is losing his entire DL, which was the strength of the team. If he wants to be a head guy, and hey who doesn't, it is probably best to get exposure to another staff. That being said, it didn't hurt Narduzzi.

I agree kids go to school because of coaches but almost always head coaches not assistants. That's why I say it won't make a difference in recruiting if Shoop leaves.Pitt doesn't have an OC and their recruiting is fine. There are lots of good coordinaters out there waiting for their chance so I don't get excited when one leaves! All the good ones got their chance somewhere, why not Pitt or PSU.

Whatever is going on let's just clarify for the apparently comprehension challenged Nit fans this isn't some rumor started by Pitt fans... It's been on SEC boards for weeks ....but it is funny to witness the wailing and gnashing and blaming Pitt for everything

Doesn't change a thing with Hudson, he isn't going there. Never was. I wish people would stop saying that. They are not a top priority for him.

yeah, oldpanther you keep saying that, Hudson to Michigan.. Problem is, they have about 5 other higher ranked recruits ahead of Hudson with very little room.. He isn't even plan B recruit but more like plan C or plan D.
