Purdue getting serious-6 year, $3.3 mill/year for Jeff Brohm....

Wow that is crazy for Purdue......

Something needs to happen with college salaries. This is getting pretty ridiculous.....
Purdue has been a steaming hunk of feces for decades. They must be trying to change that, but I don't think you pay a guy like Brohm that much without seeing some results first.

Someone brought that up in some other thread (sorry can't remember who), and the poster got torn apart by the board so I stayed out of it, but totally agree, it's pretty ridiculous

methinks the price of tea in Pittsburgh is about to go WAY up.......

The fear is piece of sh!t "welfare" programs (mooching off OSU, Mich, Wis, etc) like Purdue, Rutgets, Indiana, etc can bypass better programs like Pitt, NC State, GT, UNC, etc due to revenues coming in.

Brohm will re-introduced the forward pass to the B1G and probably get a few wins because of it. Then either move on to a good job or wither away into Purdue lore of losing.

Good move for them but not sure that's where I go if I'm Brohm. He was on the cusp of landing a good job.

Sad but true, if you want to play with the big boys you have to pay like the big boys. Where will he rank in the big 14 ?

Why would it stop? Fans, TV, everybody will just pay more. You want entertainment, you gotta pay for it.

We should have paid to keep Canada. It will be viewed as a bargain in hindsight.

Not saying it's right, but when you have a good coach you pay to keep him.

Purdue had to pay more because of the facilities are considered subpar to other big ten schools.

That, and you would just see money spent elsewhere.

You can argue that society's priorities are misplaced, but otherwise if the money's there.....

I don't see Purdue getting better any time soon still. Realistically, what is Purdue offering to a recruit?

I'd be very surprised if they get a good return on that investment.
I would be very suprised of he fails. The guy can coach. If he hires the right defensive coordinator. He will make Purdue much better. His offense runs like a machine

Their facilities are bad but would be good (in and old school way) if they just sunk decent money into it and put in chairbacks, etc... They have been as committed to football as Pitt was in the mid 90s. The salary signals a commitment but I'm not sure if its a wise one.

agree with this. and he's bringing his brother brian to be on the staff.

Very difficult to get good P5 caliber players to consider Purdue. They are in a recruiting vacuum in the Midwest created by the top 4-5 B10 schools and ND.

just pick out a random number like 8 or 12 years, i bet Brohm will have more success than previous purdue coaches in timeframe i mentioned. nobody would expect them to dominate the big ten but he doesn't have to get even a bigger gig.

That's what was said when Pete Rose became the first $100,000 singles hitter. Look at where salaries are now.

You have to dangle that kind of money when good up and coming coaches like PJ Fleck won't even answer your call.

And not only that, but when any top candidate has to consider that taking the position could very well kill his career you have to overpay to get someone decent.
