just saw the same thing occur in the Chicago Bears/Green Bay game. Bear running back tries to stretch the ball out over the goal line, fumbles, ball hits the pylon and goes out of bounds. Ruled a touchback and ball given to Green Bay.

I have to wonder why coaches don't tell these players to STOP trying to reach the ball over the goal line?

Figures. One of the best coaches.
What's crazy is most of the great coaches just simply preach the smallest things like this. Like I literally for the life of me can not understand how Henderson wouldn't know on 1st and goal to not do that, how guys in the NFL don't know this. You can be the most innovative coach in the world, if you don't stress the basics, football iq, and little things like not risking reaching the ball out, you will never be successful.

Saw that GB-Chi fumble live. Never did understand the logic of that touchback rule on fumbles into the end zone, seems to excessively penalize the team with the ball. But that’s a whole another discussion.

I didn’t think Quadree’s fumble was the same though. I didn’t think he ever got to the point of extending his arm with the ball and diving to get the end zone line. I thought he had transferred the ball from one hand to the other, still had it cradled and got hit and fumbled. The Chicago guy conversely did dive with his arm extended to reach the pylon and just lost the ball, not so much because of a hit.

yeah but the only reason there would be to transfer the ball from his left hand to his right hand would be to stretch the ball out over the goal line with both hands. If he keeps the ball in his left hand and happens to fumble the ball would have just gone out of bounds and Pitt would have maintained possession.

If you look at it from the rear view Quadree let the ball separate from his body just a few inches allowing the defender to knock it out as he reached around him. In most cases that ball would just go out of bounds. But nooooo.

Definitely agree with you on the bad luck of that ball falling and staying put instead of bouncing OB.

the known laws of physics are null and void within the parallel universe of Pitt'ng where Spock has a beard and Uhura is rocking that halter top with those killer abs and Sulu is hot for women......
